My 88 year old dad, who has been a carpenter all of his life, made me a circular saw guide with an offset measured to my saw out of wood. ❤ I would love to see a tour of your garage and your tools, including your paint booth.
Oh wow that’s so cool! I’ll bet he could teach us a LOT about woodworking. I only know what I’ve learned thru watching tutorial videos on UA-cam, along with a lot of trial and error 🫠 Maybe sometime soon I’ll do a Shop Tour video!
I love the 60s/70s furniture that I still have in my home but you did an amazing job moving this set into a beautiful upgrade! Removing the metal grids was the way to go.
Thanks! I look at every project thru the lens of what I would want for my own home. Possibly by necessity, because if it doesn’t sell it IS going in my own home 🤪
The modifications were on point. Dusting sucks anyway so no need to have any extra! And yes, I need places to hide clutter when I’m doing a fast clean up for company! 😂 Those cubbies were very odd in my opinion. The set turned out beautiful! 🦋
Thank you so much!! Yes those cubbies were a bit of a mystery. They looked about the size of shoeboxes…but why would anyone want to store their shoes like that? 🤣
I didn’t see in the description where you listed the color of stain that you used on the tops and the legs. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I would love to know what brand and what color you used.
Thank you! I used a light paint wash first, then went over it with Rustoleum Glaze in Java to warm it up a bit. The paint wash was a 50/50 mix of two paints (Fusion Mineral Paint in Cathedral Taupe and Algonquin) to tone down the yellow of the wood. That’s how I got that warm gray look. Hope this is helpful!
I just discovered you this evening. Your redesign on some of these pieces is amazing and you do a wonderful job. I’ve watched 8 of your videos now and am wondering, do you only use different variations of beige? Or do you use other colours as well?
If you go to my Instagram, (@rescuedbyamy) you can see about 90% of my projects. Most of them are light neutral colors. Every once in awhile I throw in a bold color though 😎
I love the style of this furniture and think the makeovers turned out so pretty. Yes to removing the grills and adding shelves. I noticed the Florida silhouette on your shirt. Are you in Florida by chance? I'm in Melbourne on the east coast.
Thank you so much! Yes I’m across the state from you, in the St. Pete/Clearwater area. Which is probably why all my clients prefer the light, coastal colors too! 🤣
@rescuedbyamy practically neighbors! I have a Henry Link Bali Hai dresser and nightstand to refinish for my self. I think they might be reproductions because the maker's mark is missing. The nightstand has the original yellow finish. The dresser, unfortunately, was painted previously and very poorly. The drawer runners are broken, too. It's been sitting in my garage since maybe 2015!
I love those old faux bamboo pieces, they’re so cute for FL. The bad paint job can be overcome with good sanding and a better paint job, but the broken drawer runners…may be best to just buy new ones on Amazon 👍
Yes, might get new runners. The old ones are plastic which of course get brittle and break off. The nightstands (I do have 2 purchased at different thrift stores years apart for $25 each) have wood runners, which are fine. The wood runners are actually 2 pieces of wood nailed together. I'll get around to it one day! Maybe.
Yes!! I use a shellac based primer because most of these pieces are made from wood or wood veneers that are very prone to tannin bleed thru. Ask me how I know 🫠🫠

Thank you so much! 😊 it’s such a pretty set but it needed some love.
I loved the addition of shelves in the nightstands! And, taking that metal off was definitely the best move! They turned out gorgeous!
Thank you! Yes, I just tried to think of what I’d want changed/updated if I were keeping the furniture in my own home. 🙂
I love the sliding piece you made for the drawer! This set turned out gorgeous. Team shelves here btw.👏😍
My IG followers never fail me!! 👏🙌
I like how she goes all out to do this.

So much better without those metal on the doors! Beautiful job!
Thank you, yes I agree!! 😊
Absolutely Gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing. Getting rid of the metal doors made these pieces look fresh and modern.
So glad you liked it, thank you 😊 Yes, I was even surprised at how different the nightstands looked!!
Not surprised it sold right away. Very nice valet tray and shelves.
Thank you 😊 Any excuse to make some sawdust!!

You did an amazing transformation on this set of furniture! I absolutely love it!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! 😊 It’s soooo elegant now!
Definitely think you made the right choice. Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
I think it looks fantastic --- chic and feminine! I'm glad you didn't make any structural changes. ❤
Thank you! 😊 Yes it’s pretty classic construction so aside from the legs I wanted to leave it be.
You really rescued this piece big time! Love the updated look! B~]
Thank you 😊 Yes this set was in pretty rough shape, it definitely needed some love.
I’m not a fan of big furniture but you made this set awesome! I would have removed the screens, also.
Thank you!! Yes it was definitely big pieces to haul 😅
I just found you. Great video, I enjoyed the woodworking part very much. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!
Thank you!! I always love making some sawdust on these projects 🥰 Welcome aboard!
I like you style 👍👍

Good grief! The metal mesh was awful, you did an AWESOME job on this set. The result is stunning!
I couldn’t believe how much dust that metal mesh was collecting 😬 I’m sure that style had its day but it was definitely time for an update 😊

Did she shellac so that the wood grain wouldn't show thru?
Yes!! I use a shellac based primer because most of these pieces are made from wood or wood veneers that are very prone to tannin bleed thru. Ask me how I know 🫠🫠
Definitely remove the metal it looks stunning great work
Thanks! 😊 Yes I agree the metal needed to go 👍
No cubbies.
