The finish I sanded with 220 wasn't completely gone, but pretty close to it. I think what the video is showing after sanding is the stain still being in the wood, but it reads on camera as still finished. Since the topcoat was sanded off, it allowed the paint wash to cover the stain that had saturated the wood. I sanded for quite a bit longer than the fast forwarded clip shows, and probably should have said that in the video.
So, I am baffled. Did you do the paint wash on bare wood or over an existing finish?
