- In this video I'll present my solo playthrough of the card game 'ROVE' by Button Shy Games. ROVE is a solo spatial puzzle game. In each game of ROVE, the player will face a series of mishaps that can only be solved by arranging the 6 module cards in a specific pattern. Moving a module requires Movement Points gained by discarding cards from hand for the listed amount. Players may gain additional Points if their current module layout matches the pattern shown on the discarded card.

This is very helpful.
I don't know why, but I had a really hard time understanding "what to do" when I got Rove and the expansions.
Watching you play definitely cleared up a lot of my misunderstandings!
That's great to hear! How do you like the game?
Loved this walk through and the adjacency rule is demonstrated in a lovely manner at 9:25
Thank you! 😊
Thank you, I only got to mission 5 while watching you, but I can’t wait to play more of this.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 🙃
Great video and glad I backed it even before seeing this playthrough. But I feel like I will enjoy it even more now.
That's great to hear! I hope you'll have fun with the game when it arrives. ✌️
I backed the game and all of its expansions from the current Kickstarter. Thanks for sharing!
That was a good choice - it's a really nice puzzler!
I backed the expansions as well and will also feature those on the channel - but that shouldn't surprise anyone. 😅
I love this game! And buttonshy games in general
Yeah, it's a good game - and I keep extending my collection as well. There's a lot of good games there! 😁
Nice playthrough, well played!
Thanks! Yeah, this playthrough went pretty well, although I thought I'd lose halfway through. 😅
@@SirThecos I got the same impression. There was drama, there was tension and despair, and a happy ending.
That's a pretty good summary! 😁
Luckily, there was a Happy End to the little robot's journey. 🙂✌️
Thanks for your explanation. I managed to nearly win! Ran out of movement at the end.
Gonna try again.
Yeah, the game can be quite tight! 😅
You were right: I love the look of this game! The artwork is so cute and the landscape you build up as you go is just brilliant. You mention in the video that you’re not sure whether you will go back to it in the longer term; how did that work out?
I’m going to need to make sure I get good value for shipping to the UK, so I was wondering if the expansions for this game add variability over the longer term? If so, I may pop a couple in my basket along with the base game!
Actually, I still play the game quite a lot - the expansions actually add a lot to the game! 😁
Great play through! I do think that you accidentally misplayed the push card(if I understand it’s use correctly).
The last few rounds, you just moved it, even though you didn’t actually push anything. So, in theory, I don’t believe it should have been moved.
Regardless, it was a great play through and I love your overall insight on the game itself.
Thank you! 🙂
Honestly, I'm not sure - the description of the card is as follows: "Move 1 space. If you move into a Module, push it 1 space in the same direction. Each pushed Module will push any that they move into as well."
To me it sounds like I don't have to push another module but only if I actually touch one. 🤔
You're right thecos. It's an optional push. Only the core has to interact with other modules in order to move.
Skulls of Sedlec is still my favorite ButtonShy game.
Have you thought about ranking all your ButtonShy games?
I really like Skulls of Sedlec as well - I am looking forward to receiving the collection in a few months! 😁
Yeah, the thought crossed my mind - problem is that I don't own them all yet. After Skulls of Sedlec will have arrived, I should own 16 Button Shy Games. But that's still not all. 😅 But maybe it's still enough. 🤔
That is definitely enough, you don't have to own them all :)
I don't even think that's really possible. 😅
At 8:32 when you move Coil from bottom left to top right, and you pass over Gripper, you count that as 1 movement point but shouldn’t it be 2 movement points? I haven’t seen anywhere in the rules that state the Coils movement rule of ‘pass over at least one other module’ means that you don’t count the movement point.
Actually, I don't think so. The coil can "move any number of spaces" but "must pass over 1+ other Modules." So, as long as it moves in a line and passes over at least one module, its movement should only cost one point. But maybe this is me and I'm getting something wrong. 🤔
@@SirThecos ok thank you. I looked it up on BGG and seems you are correct that it would take 1 movement point.
I know there are several more expansions planned for this game
Yeah, I heard that, too - that would greatly increase the game's longevity!
