  • How to prime your Berkey filters with a modern kitchen faucet. If you are currently having issues priming your Berkey filers, then this video will show you a simple method of priming your Berkey elements using your kitchen faucet without any additional parts. Berkey sells additional pieces that can be useful in priming your Berkey filters, but this video does not use them.
Priming your Berkey filters is an excellent way to increase the efficiency of the filtration system by removing the air bubbles that have built up in the filters prior to use. According to the Berkey website, this can make a significant different in how quickly your Berkey filters the water.

Holy cow! This saved my water filter from being returned! Word of caution, after removing the faucet head, the hose retracted up into the neck of the faucet!! I was able to retrieve it by using the under-sink part of the hose and feeding it back through so I could grab it. Then, I attached a large paper clip to keep it from retracting again. Whew! Now my faucet and filter are in good working order. Here's to clean drinking water, cheers!

Super helpful!! Thank you!! I chatted with customer support and was told to soak it in water for 8-12 hours. After 16 hours they still were not primed. I was about to box it back up and return it when I decided to search UA-cam one more time. I had no idea the nozzle on my faucet could be removed. 15 mins later and my Berkey is finally filtering water. Thank you 💦 😊

Wow- 45 seconds was all I needed to end an hour of frustration. I have sink with a detached sprayer, but the faucet does still have an aerator. A quick pop off and both my filters were primed in a few minutes! 🎉

Brilliant! We bought our berkey years ago, and have replaced the filters using an old style faucet, or my husband would use the outside hose. This saved us a lot of soaking by that method tonight. We did 6 black and 6 fluoride filters in under an hour.

Yes had difficulty priming filters. This is my third set of the blk Berkeley filters. Went on YT for a help video and was given, basically same demo (different faucets) but, same principle. Am currently in an RV, needless to say “not ideal space .” I used our outside, city water hose. Worked well with water beading through filters for correct amount of time. Did the washing (can’t remember sequence as this was 4 mos ago!) Installed in chamber, filled with water….which quickly ran through. Don’t know what I did wrong!

I've had these filters sitting around for years and I've tried Berkey's pump thing, too, and it didn't work... until this video. I finally have my Berkey set up!!
