I first seen the movie Jesus of Nazareth when I was in grade school. I have never forgotten it. I cried then and still cry when I watch it. Thank you Robert Powell for this movie.

I wish Robert would really understand how much of an impact he made by acting as the role of Jesus all those years ago. I'm sure he does, but I must say it was truly epic. I cry every time I watch that film and that's due in part to how well Robert did in his portrayal. He almost sounds irritated that we don't acknowledge his other acting opportunities, but it's just such an incredible job that it eclipses all else. Incredible job Robert!

Powell is simply that good of an actor. He makes literally everyone believe he is the Son of Man. It is as if Zeffirelli got the real Jesus to star in the miniseries. Powell is that astonishing.

I think he does, deep down, understand that he did make a big impact by acting the role of Jesus - it's just that he still quite can't understand why! He seems a genuinely humble and sincere person about it all. To him, he feels perhaps he was just being professional at the time, yet putting his heart into the role as he does always! I do agree with you too - it's hard to disregard the remarkable influence he had on so many of us, when the series was first aired, and since! :)

His acting & depiction of the life of Jesus was the the best. The film of Jesus was extremely advanced in acting skills for that decade 1970s. Excellent production, excellent actors & their skills. I've watched the film since a child. Still amazes me til this day. Anything having to do with Almighty God & Lord Jesus amazes me. God bless... 🙏!

I was reading an article where Robert Powell got real upset after the movie was done and out, that he'd seen pictures of him as Jesus all over the place and in churches and people worshipping that likeness and he was mad at people for thinking that way. He kept trying to tell people to worship in the real Jesus, that he was just an actor who played the part and in his defense, I am glad he did that. That tells you he does recognize who Jesus is and wants people to stop worshipping that picture and looking at him but to focus on the true Jesus. I'm glad he made the movie. I was really loved his portrayal and the way he looked. I know we don't actually know yet what Jesus looks like but that face and those eyes just captured me and that movie brought to life those Bible stories more so for me. I accepted Jesus as my Savior at 9. Any song or movie that can bring me closer to Him I love.

Yes: an actor always faces a dilemma when he performs well in a role. People will automatically associate him with that role. In the case of Jesus, it's idolatrous to worship images. Powell's performance is outstanding and truly deserves the renown it still incites over 42 years later. It shows his quality as an actor. But turning him into Jesus isn't the proper response.

Powell was outstanding in "Jesus of Nazareth". I have loved that series for over 12 years, and I follow Judaism. At the same time, I can understand his, shall we say, mixed feelings towards the role. It reminds me of Conan Doyle and "Sherlock Holmes": the art dwarfing the artist. Powell shone in "Jesus of Nazareth" simply because he is an outstanding actor.
Without a considerable body of diverse work, he could not have convinced anyone in the role. And so he wants to be recognised for that vast body of work, instead of being pigeon-holed as "Jesus". I understand that, even though I primarily associate him with the Jesus role. Above all, Powell is an erudite, humble, and sincere man. His interviews are always interesting. I also love his narration for documentaries and stories: he has a fine voice!

To Robert Powell, Acting is a gift People are not necessarily stupid
worshippers of idols They receive your gift in their own unique
perspective They know you are an actor but they need to touch Christ and
it is true that to some you provided the closest representation of
Christ through your good acting of HIS Character and also through the
coincidence that to many you looked in the film like they imagine Jesus
could look When one makes a gift to others one must consider others free
to receive ones gift freely as they need to and not tell them off or
reproach them the way they receive it A gift is free by nature Let it
be! Let God and Let Go, sorry but it is not up to you anymore, now that
you gave it to decide how others should receive your gift Giving is
giving freely Taking back or behaving as still owning it is then
stealing! I will add that You TOO Was GIVEN the IMMENSE GRACE to
interpret Jesus, one of the most loved adored person/God in the world
This is a great privilege and you did it well Jesus loves you very much
and trusted you with HiMSELF which is a great honour and a beautiful
gift some might envy But remember IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU AND NEVER WAS
ABOUT YOU IT WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE ABOUT JESUS We all know that IT IS
ONLY A GRACE AND A GIFT It does not belong to you It does not belong to
us So please now humbly LET IT BE! It is between each one of us and
Christ Christ never rebuked marks of affection even from naive children
Please stop rebuking the affection so many need to demonstrate to
Christ! I hope this helps, Much love to all, sister lucy

Robert whether you like it or not, yout portrayal of Jesus of Nazareth has made me label you as one amazing actor. I hve seen several Jesus movies and I have come to the conclusion that you were picked by God himself to play the part of his Son Jesus Christ. You had all the qualities that the Jesus in my mind had. Ie unconditional love, gentleness but firm in some instances., non judgemental, kind emotional in where relevent and loving. Robert, I admit I havent had much interest in your other roles as an actor, and that is because Im a practicing Catholic and my focus is mainly on religious themes. Robert you showed me my Jesus. God Bless You Dear Robert

its a real shame that Robert is so arrogant to be gifted the part and not really appreciate it , and not like being asked about it, granted same questions, please show a bit of grace and hiumility as you taint your great work and nothing you have done since can compare ,it is your best work sir.

It's rather arrogant for you to demand that Powell accept your interpretation of his work, and then accuse *him* of being arrogant about having a different reaction. He isn't ungrateful. Rather, he is too modest about his work, but that is no problem. Perhaps he just wishes to be appreciated for a wider body of work which speaks of itself, rather than playing Jesus. Like many Powell fans, I first came to appreciate his work through "Jesus of Nazareth". His performance was outstanding. But I also enjoy his narrations for documentaries, and the many other roles he has played.

Robert Powell you should feel feel privileged to play Jesus .but you seem to be very ungrateful hard to believe that you don't appreciate playing jesus. This film should have changed your heart. I pray that one day you realise who is the king of kings.
