Dye-based inks are composed of colored water combined with optical brighteners. Printers that use dye-based inks are for the casual consumer and users who are not concerned with archival permanence. Dye-based fades more quickly than pigment-based inks. Pigment-based inks are ground-up pigment particles suspended in a homogenous solution and are much more resistant to fade when exposed to UV light. This is the type of ink we use for what we call archival pigment printing.
