About
Portraits as Visual Repositories highlights images and projects that consider the relationships between one’s image and what it might reveal (or conceal) about their world, regarding portraits as an archive or a depository of the subject’s life, identity and points of views.
Can portraits be a visual repository for the lives, experiences, emotions and perspectives of photographed subjects? Can the arranging of oneself for a portrait be considered a performance? And what does that performance might reveal about the viewpoint of the photographer? Considering the relationships between one’s image and what it might reveal (or conceal) about their world, this show regards portraits as an archive or a depository of the subject’s life, identity and points of views.

    At about 26:00 minutes in, those are IPv6 addresses, not MAC addresses. IPv4 addresses are the numerical 0-255 sections like 192.168.1.8. IPv6 addresses are the longer hexadecimal values with the multiple colons between sections in your “find printer” view.

    Does Epson Print Layout work with all Epson Printers? The Epson website says it only works with a list of printers. However, I have seen other videos that show people using an ET 8550 with Epson Print Layout??????

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 3 місяці тому

      Epson Print Layout is "officially" compatible only with the printers stated. I have had some people report that it is connecting to Eco Tank printers and some of the older Epson printers as well but EPL might not act reliably or have full functionality. If you can use it and it works, go for it.

      @@ericjoseph3865 Thanks I have learned plenty from your videos, more than from OEM's videos. such as the apple air print issue. That leads me to one last issue what program is worth it if Epson will not do the et 8550, great low cost printer for learning printing....Qimage???

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 3 місяці тому

      @@Abundant-Living Epson Eco-Tank printers are not designed for fine art printing but more for home use and simple printing on resin coated or plain papers. My recommendation is if Epson Print Layout works, then use it. I'm sure QimageOne will integrate with it as well but it is a bit of a complicated program to use for most people but it is a very low cost RIP program. My recommendation is to simply use the standard printer driver through the File-Print command.

    On my Pro-4100, I'm putting 3 11"wide x14"high images on a 36" roll. I want to make each image smaller to allow for a margin of 1.25" all around and fit in the 11"x14" slot. I am not seeing how to create a margin. I must be missing a setting somewhere. Thanks

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 3 місяці тому

      Hello Richard. That is a very good question. Canon PPL can not include borders in the slots. You can either "fill" the slot with the image or "fit" the image to the slot using the Slot Size drop down menu when performing a left click on the slot area. The only way to create a border is to use the Show Crop Marks tool in the Layout panel and set them to 1.25 inches away from each corner of the slot. You can set this parameter but clicking on the "Settings" button to the right of the Show Crop Marks tool. You can set the Crop Mark Positioning there as well as activate Inside Corner Crop Marks, which I would highly recommend for ease when trimming down your images. I hope this helps.

    How can I install a MOAB icc profile on to the Canon Pro 300. I have the ICC profile saved to my Mac computer. However, when I try to upload the ICC profile using the Canon Media Configuration Tool, the ICC profiles are greyed out.

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 5 місяців тому

      Hello michaelricco. You don't install ICC profiles on your Canon Pro-300. If you are only installing the ICC profile from Moab's website, you simply copy the ICC profile file in to the folder at this location on your hard drive if you are on an Apple computer, Macintosh HD - Library - ColorSync - Profiles. If you are on Windows simply click on the file and choose Install Profile and Windows will install it in the correct location. When you launch Canon Professional Print & Layout the profile will be listed in the Printer Profile dropdown menu. Make sure you choose the correct and appropriate Media Type Setting for the profile you are using. The Canon Media Configuration Tool does not install profiles. It is designed to install AM1X files which are combination Media Type files with attached profiles. By installing these types of files the profile will automatically get installed in the correct location. It is a bit confusing the Media Type files and ICC profiles are two different things. The Media Configuration Tool is also designed to allow you to create custom Media Type files as well. Maob currently doesn't provide AM1X files for the Canon Pro-300 so I wouldn't worry about this now. You might want to watch the video on this LACP UA-cam channel called Introduction to Media Configuration Tool that is a recorded class I taught a bit ago on how to use that program. You can also email me directly at etjoseph@freestylephoto.com if you need further assistance. I hope this helps.

    Eric, this is a great video. I have a question, when making my prints should I converted to 8 Bits? I understand that the Canon Pro-300 and other inkjet rinter only supports 8 bits and are more consistents like that. Any thoughts? there is no comments in this subject. Also, when you talk about color space, I understand you rpoint of Adobe RGB, but if you use Lightroom as your focal point to manage your photos and Edit in Photoshop, and store it in LR. Going back and forth changing the Color Space is not recommended, as far as I know. The problem is LR defauult Color Space is always Prophoto. Thanks again.

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 6 місяців тому

      When printing you want the most information you can get in your file. ProPhoto RGB is generally too big but many people use it. I feel, and many others feel that Adobe RGB (1998) is a more appropriate color space for digital fine art printing since our inks in our printers we designed around this color space. 16 bit files are always better than 8 bit files as they contain more information. The Lightroom default color space is ProPhoto RGB but all of this is selectable and adjustable in LR. You might want to view my other video “The Six Steps to Making Perfect Inkjet Prints on the LACP UA-cam Channel. I touch on color space and the differences between sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998) and Pro Photo RGB.

      I love all of the papers in the Canson-Infintiy Arches Infinity Range of inkejt papers. Arches 88 is very smooth, BFK Rives has a medium texture and availalbe in both a Pure White and what I call a traditional no OBA white, and then there is Aquarelle which is a very heavy textured watercolor paper. Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag is a fan favorite for a semi-gloss, 100% cotton paper. Hahnemühle also has a ton of great papers and I especially like the new Bamboo Gloss Baryta. Hi this is a great tutorial. My workflow is that I go through a bunch of images in Lightroom and edit them as I choose which ones I want to print (i.e. I don't choose and edit 5 and then print in one batch, I print to have rough sketches). I'm finding that I have to close the Canon programme after each image in order for met to add another image to print. I.e. I can't drag images from Lightroom as I'm working. Can you help?

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 6 місяців тому

      Hello nataschalibbert8345. When using Lightroom, you simply need to highlight the files you want to print in your film strip and go to File -- Plug-In Extras and then choose Canon Professional Print & Layout. Your files will be exported from Lightroom to Canon PPL if you are working from within Lightroom. You need to install the plug-in first of course. You can not drag and drop files from Lightroom or the film strip in to Canon PPL. Lightroom doesn't work that way. You are only seeing a preview image of your file in Lightroom and you are working in a Library of thumbnails in a Catalog and not the actual images files themselves. This is one of the tricky things about working in Lightroom that most folks miss. In order to drag and drop files in to PPL they have to be fully exported out of Lightroom as a JPG or TIF file and have a color space assigned to them such as sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998) or ProPhoto RGB. I also always size my file to the size I want to print in inches at 300 ppi. I hope this helps.

    Hi! Great video! Thank you so much for it! I have one question - is it possible using Professional Print & Layout to select Layout Mode to "Multiple images", place some images, and somehow tell the printer to cut after every image like it would be for a single image?

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 6 місяців тому

      While you can use Canon PPL to print out multiple images on a page, it is limited to the page size you’ve selected or created. There is an optional cutter that you can use to do custom cutting of images and stickers though which is a much more advanced product and used primarily with the large format printers and a RIP called Imageprint.

      Yes, Epson Print Layout has Soft Proofing activated along with what many of us call the "ugly" button which also activates Simulate Paper Color. Personally I would not use Epson EPL as an accurate method of soft proofing. Just use it to print. I have requested that Epson create a separate button to activate Soft Proofing for those who really want to use it. For many it is a valuable feature. For others it is a recipe for disappointment. I hope this helps.

    Question: When we send you a copy of our printer colors for you to make ICC profiles, what kind of paper should we print the colors on...??

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 8 місяців тому

      You MUST print the patches on the paper you are wanting to custom profile. There is no random choice here. The whole point of creating a custom profile for a paper is to create it for that specific paper on your specific printer.

    Hi, I hava a pro-1000. I seen in this video many custom paper sizes. I can create one in Professional Print & Layout, but I can't find where to create it, to be selectable in printer's menu. Is there a way for that for Pro-1000 or only the higher sizes?

    excellent and idiosyncratic presentation of artists and methodologies working with photocollage and montage. If I add someone to the list maybe it's Penny Slinger but now I'm going to look at Sarah Hadley's work

      If you are on an Apple computer make sure that you have downloaded and installed the actual Canon driver from the Canon Support & Downloads website and that the dreaded Apple AirPrint printer driver is not installed. This is explained in the video and is very important.

      How is your file formatted? It should be a JPG or TIF file with a color space such as sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998) or Pro Photo RGB.
