Furniture Makeover | Start to finish furniture flip using Country Chic Paint

- In today's Furniture Makeover video I show you my step-by-step process for painting an old bookshelf. I wouldn't call this a trash to treasure Makeover as This piece was gorgeous as is but by giving it a brighter color it will appeal to a wider audience making it easier to flip. To keep the original finish intact I use shellac under Country chic clay based paint. I hope you enjoy this start to finish furniture flip!

It turned out so lovely! The bookcase was nice before, but the dark wood tone made the details kind of lost, the lighter color and wax gives the details the attention they deserve, very nice job, as always!

Sherry here: Thanks for the tip on using the dark wax over sealer. I have tried it over clear wax and it was pretty much a disaster. I had to get white wax and try to blend it in. In the end it was okay but not great.... yikes. Will try your method next time.

Completely different and I have to say that the beautiful details on top are now visible!!! I want to change a furniture with a burgundy red have you ever used this colour? I can't find any video with burgundy red just to have an idea of the look 😔 any suggestions , I am a beginner and don't feel so confident...

Sure you can as long as it's completely dry. I usually only use wax for details, so it’s not a heavy amount.
Christina I should add that I would only put a sealer over Dixie Belle best dang wax Because it is water-based. Most waxes are not so you wouldn’t want to seal over and oil-based.
That piece was absolutely beautiful when you finished! I love the Dixie Belle clearcoat and the Dixie Belle gator hide. Both of them works so well. Have you ever tried the Zibra brushes? I have used those and that’s all I use now. The paint goes on so much smoother with the synthetic brush bristles. And they are really very reasonable. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thank you! I have used the Zibra brushes. I just got the palm pro but have yet to use it. I like their round brush and square brush for specific projects😊

I love all your videos. Quick question: Does using Shellac take the place of sanding if a piece has a good smooth finish and you just intend to paint NOT stain? I have an armoire I want to paint that is in pretty good shape (no dings or scratches). I'm just bored with the color and wanna jazz it up with some new paint and maybe a transfer. Thanks in advance.
Hello, what’s the best brush to use to apply clear top coat? I am using the country chic, similar to Dixie belle brand. I’m Not sure how to go upon applying the top coat to intricate detailing on furniture. Thank you 😊
So pretty. I love your we work. Amy can you paint over latex paint or is it better to strip the paint before applying County Chic paint.
Thank you! I would remove latex paint first before using country chic or any other paint. Latex tends to peel after time.
