    I had something very strange happen recently. I went to fill up my tank. I then drove about 50 miles. My 20 gallon tank had dropped down almost 8 gallons when I had only gone about 50 miles. It shouldn't have dropped that much. I work from home most the time also; so this means that I'm driving very little.
    This makes me think that I had gas stolen; like someone siphoned gas from my car.
    ...
    But after I thought that I went to a different gas station, and filled up. Then did my drive for the week, which was like 24 miles. I came home and my gas meter in the car had barely changed. It was noticably much less gas used, where the gas from before dropped a lot but all came from a different gas station.
    ...
    This make sme think that maybe that 1 gas station might be selling gas that's dilluted with water?
    But I want to ask also how do you tell and identify an event of someone siphoning your gas compared with a gas station selling dilluted water? And if it was gas sold with water dilluted in it, wouldn't the symptom of that look like the gas guage dropping faster than it should?
    Thanks for any insight on this.

    I suspect water in my 2 stroke, 6 gallon tank, boat gas. I only use non-oxy gas and the fuel in the can is already premixed. If I siphon fuel from the bottom will I be able to see a water/premixed fuel line similiar to just water in the fuel? Only source of moisture I can think of is condensation.

    So if you have on liter gas and you add 100 cc of colored water you will get at least 200cc of colored water because ethanol binds with the water and is extracted from the gas.

    I've had fuel pump issues twice over the past 2 years because if water in the fuel. Which there was a meter at the pumps to tell us.

    That is the same way you test for ethanol so how do you know if it’s water or ethonal???

    • @jstev67
      @jstev67 Рік тому

      He doesn’t. It is ethanol. Now he can charge his client to drain their tank and keep the gas. Win win for him.

    Yeah - but do i have to test water from the bottom of the gas tank?

    This is not a test for water this is a test for alcohol

    and now how do you safely dispose of the water/gasoline mixture you just made…?

    This possibly explains why engines sometimes knock and the reasons can be from the amount of water in the fuel

  • @The_Seeker_of_Truth
    @The_Seeker_of_Truth 2 роки тому +2

    This is misleading... Adding water to the mix pulls out the alcohol (ethanol) content, not the water that may be mixed with it. This is a test for figuring out the ethanol amount within the gas.

    If water sits in the gas for a few days would it make the gas turn Brown?

  • @z3phyrdok

    Hahaha! Impervious to gasoline...hand above plastic bottle.

    But doesn't that add water to the gas?

    • @kellismith4329
      @kellismith4329 2 роки тому +1

      Yes but it also combines with the water in the gas and collects it on top of the fuel, now the dividing line will drop below the original line and the difference represents the water that was present in the fuel before combined. This is a very helpful video, I recently had some sudden issues with a vehicle and suspected it began shortly after I had filled up with gas - this test proved that I had fuel almost 50 % water, also murky colored and funny smell I think some was diesel.

    Aren’t you actually testing for alcohol content?

    To do this test properly you would have to have a lab graduated cylinder to get accurate measurements Not just a plastic water bottle

    The whole thing about water in fuel is a myth. And, no, there aren't a lot of options for auto fuel; there are three, regular, 89 octane and 92 octane. Now, re you experiment, didn't you forget something? Yes, you you did not tell us how much water was in your fuel sample, other than the amount you poured in. Why? Because there was none, other than the amount you poured in. The true test of water n fuel is to sample an amount from the gas station, and let it sit for one month and see how much water will settle to the bottom. Do not be surprised if after one month, there is no water.
