He'd the man
He's cool
Many UA-camrs can learn from your approach to a video. An appropriate title followed by direct content that covers the topic. No BS. As a great detective once said, "Just the facts ma'am". Great job sir.
thanks for watching and for your support.
Perfect visual of how quickly the water separates in fuel, I had no idea it was so fast. Also never occurred to me that the water could have gotten into the fuel while still on the truck. Great explanation and video.
Thanks for watching.
Thank you, Robert, for educating folks on what happens when water gets in a fuel tank. It is good to know it is not necessary to drain the entire tank over a cup or so of water at the bottom of the tank. Cheers!
+Ash Townsend thanks for watching.
This was such a great video, very informative and factual
As a viewer I appreciate the effort and time you put into gathering all of the props and information for this.
Please keep up the good work
Devin Willis Thank you for watching.
You really broke it down to the point of comprehension. I enjoyed your tutorial. Thank you!
+missige thanks for watching.
Very informative. Answered all my questions! Thanks! 😀
Good deal. Thanks for watching.
I feel you bro 😂😂🤣
I'm seriously impressed I just went through a problem with something in my gas tank I wish I would've saw this video couple weeks ago
Thanks for watching
Great info, I was not completely aware of. Thanks for the t 👍 4:18
Glad to help
Excellent info. Dealing with this now and just bought some HEET. Thanks much!!!
+Matthew Drinnenberg you are welcome
Didn't know what HEET was until I saw your comment... lol I was thinking, did he write a typo? Seems like a good product.
I commented on your other video lol. I put $10 of gas and it turned into a $500 repair. I pretty much pumped water!!!
+Erickson J Ouch! Sorry to read that.
How long did it take for you to notice that it was water ? Did it damage rather quickly?
It's insane that this guy still answering comments after 7 years!
LOL
Best type of mechanic for helpful videos 🤙🏼
Glad you think so!
Thanks for your video contribution. Happened to me also for the first time. One bad week of driving and restarting the car. One day in the repair shop. Hard to believe it. Carburettor was filled with water. Happened after pump fill in.
Ouch!
Carburetor? What year is it?
You the man Rob, keep up the good vids. Great info, thank you.
You are welcome.
I had that issue with my car a few times. Id go get gas at this one place and sometimes it would be ok at first, then about a day or two later it would splutter, stall or even struggle to start up hot. Once it misfired so bad I couldnt go any faster than 45 mph. Pouring some heat in the tank would always fix it. Afterwards I just stopped going there and it never happened again.
Good decision.
sounds like water/bad gas...?
Fox McCloud 007 THATS EXACTLY WHATS HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW . Broke down in the middle of no where due to shitty gas in New Mexico
@@RobertDIY mine misfired once every few miles for 2 days nd i added some heji or omething from napa into it and it did like maybe 4 more times and it hasnt done it again in 3 days.. i pray that this has fixed the issue
How long did it take to fix
Got this same problem in my 99 Benz that had little gas in it for a couple weeks. With the weather change I think enough condensation formed and it starts but chokes and dies within a couple seconds. The visual of that water in the bottle got me. On my way to buy some fuel additive for it. Thanks!
Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the info. Lost my gas cap right before monsoon season here in Louisiana, and my car sounded and drove like it was dying. Putting heet and a piston ring sealant SEEMS to have worked wonders. I'm still going to go through the injectors and fuel rail to see if anything else needs to be tended to. Thank you for your insight, my friend. God bless you, and America. We're all just brothers and sisters trying to get by, and young people don't seem to get that. Thanks and God bless.
thanks for watching and God bless you are well.
Gotta throw young ppl under the bus eh
Thanks for showing. I was about to start using water considering the state of gas prices rn 😂
LOLOLOLOL
Great presentation, Robert. Thank you.
+rayford21
Also, remember that since water isn't being consumed it has a
tendency to accumulate (add) in the tank over time.
Too bad there isn't a sump valve you could open to purge the water
like in the old piston engines on aircraft.
+rayford21 water should never accumulate in a car's gas tank.
great video mate. Very easy to follow. The mixing water with fuel in a bottle made everything fall into place perfectly.
Thanks for watching.
Prob the best simple video explaining gas and water in the tank. Thankyou uploader
Apollo2003 You are welcome. Thank you for watching.
I thought I had another problem but watching your vid cleared up a lot. Sure as day I took a sample from my tank and got a bunch of water at the bottom. I am in Florida rain capital of the US. I am sure it was from a gas station I visited.
+Edgar vega ouch!
Thanks bro for your infos you help me out greetings from GREECE to you in the USA
Thanks for watching
Guy should be a teacher, great Video thanks!!
Thanks for watching.
okay I will do that I just pray I haven't did any further damage!!!
Hope not.

Thanks you so much I've been telling my boyfriend about the water and gas but he thinks cuz im a girl I don't know anything about cars . U helped me prove him wrong lol.
You are welcome
Someone put a gallon of water in my 2012 Subaru outback. It was right below empty. When added. When it clod down and stop. I got ten gallon of gas and a heet. I tried to start it. It kinda wants to start but hasn't. I've stopped trying until you answer. I'm not a mechanic. I was a carpenter all my life.
Thank you

ouch
Dealing with this problem right now. Thanks for sharing
Ouch!
yo i’m learning so much from this than school😎
thanks for watching.
@@RobertDIY no problem👍🏽
basically another reason you dont let your tank go dry is because the gasoline is like a lubricant for your fuel pump and lines.
good video
+Alex M Thanks for watching.
Congrats on 200k + subs!!!!! Informative content.
Thank you very much
very informative- thanks sir
+BooTYwiZARd Thanks for watching.
Excellent!
I think this might be why I had a crank/no start.
Sprayed ether and it struggled and started.
The car sat for a couple weeks and it's cold outside.
I'm guessing the ethanol made some water and froze in the fuel line.
ua-cam.com/video/gLoO-D4yOcU/v-deo.html
Yes dude great info. Thanks…!
Any time!
Good video! I also learned about phase seperation in gas, working at an airport with mechanics!
+Taydrum Cool. Thanks for watching.
I truly appreciate you my brotha.
Thanks for watching
Great video Sir. Thank you 🏆🇬🇧
you are welcome.
Man gots the smarts I like it
Thanks for watching
Thank you very much Sir. I hope it won't affect that much my old carburated bike. I made the mistake of washing the tank from the inside. Unfortunately a bit of water remained there and now my bike runs a bit weaker, specially during accelerations....
Drain the tank and start fresh.
Thank you for your informative video..I have had a no start situation and have recently found i have alot of water in my tank
+betheejo Ouch!
Same
Nice demo. Thanks for posting!
You are welcome.
I have an old car with carburetors. Whenever I get water in the gas I disconnect the gas pipe from the carburetors. I turn on the ignition and thereby pump the water out of the bottom of the tank. After a while there will be no more water coming out and you will get petrol instead. Let the carburetors dry up and then start the car. Cannot guarantee but it works on my old car.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you, very informative.

Nicely explained.

Thanks you Robert.

Very informative, but not sure if it was said that using water as fuel is bad for the car.

Great video. Thank you 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video
Thanks for the visit
try starting with a dry tank and no gas smell or duplicate the gas smell and add purish water maybe add some powder sugar and mix well .. maybe till yellow
Wow!
really helped me thank you sir!
you are welcome.
I managed Gas stations for years, how water gets in the fuel tanks at a station is due to the tanks sweating (above ground tanks can be worse than in ground), this gets worse the older the station gets due to tank degradation. Where i'm at in TN, it was allowed to have 1/2" maximum of water in the fuel tank. Anything over that, the water was required to be pumped out. Either the tanks had to be measured with a large measuring stick (old way) or a computer would print out every morning all the levels in all the grades. (Yes mid grade is simply a mixture of the Reg and Supreme) There are also filters in the pump to help keep the water from getting into someone's car, but again if a station is older, less maintained you are at a higher risk of getting water in your gas. I always try to get gas at the newest station, most maintained station.
Thanks for sharing.
Liked and shared. Thanks bro. Very detailed and useful info
you are welcome.
Here's a weird question: Is there any way for water to get in your tank without A. Gas station accidently pumping it in there. B. Your gas tank is open during rain storm or C. Someone physically opening your gas tank and adding water?
I'm basically trying to figure out if someone intentionally added water to a friend's gas tank. Her car died within a mile of this person's house, and she hadn't gotten gas anytime several days prior. She also didn't have her gas tank door open, so in my mind, it must have been this person trying to "sabotage" her car.
From a mechanic's perspective, what could this have been? There are plenty of reasons this person would have wanted to sabotage her car, but we're trying to give the benefit of the doubt here...
Lets go with no.
If the car died, could be from a number of reasons, especially if the car is over 10 years old.
10 years old doesnt mean much these days. 10 YEars is 2007, and I'm sure 2007 cars run beautifully today.
I drive a 2001 Honda Civic, and it runs pretty much flawlessly. Keep in mind, 2001 would make my car over 16 years old.
The 10 year old saying was likely invented 10-20 years ago when talking about driving cars from 1980s or 1990s.
This video is great! Thank you. During the winter I let my tank go almost empty, then added a 1/4 tank. All of a sudden the suv started to shudder going up hill around 20mph. I added 2 Iso Heet and a full tank of Mobil premium and was better in a few days. Now it is spring I notice that when the car starts to get about 1/4 tank it does not run as well. Is it the debris? I try to keep it over a 1/2 tank because of this with the premium that has detergents in it.

very informative, thank you very much

Very true but tough to accuse the gas station.

What a great video very helpful and clear. Liked subscribed
Thank you.
XD nice car , you have the newer version of the focus I have , xD i have a 2002 Ford focus zx5. Sold now though. :). Thanks for the tip in this video , I pumped gas one time my car was acting funny , and would start and turn off , start and turn off . So we pumped out the gas tank , and did a few tests, and my grandpa helped me fix my car.
Thanks for sharing.
I learned right here.
Good deal
Robert DIY thank you very much for this video. My parents always say, you learn something new every day.
That's the goal.
Damn! that's what I might be dealing with. Replaced the in tank fuel pump, high pressure fuel pump, and still down between an 1/8 and a 1/4 and I get the stutter and shut down. No CEL.
Ouch
@@RobertDIY so I guess drive it down to the next shut down and syphon as much out as possible, add a bunch of heat and fill it up again. Ouch is right. An $800 one!
Is it getting all of the gas out? Is the float (sending unit) bad?
@@RobertDIY strongly doubt that, since I replaced the entire sending unit with everything attached. There are fixed mounts, so it can only go in a certain way. My old one had 130k on it. Although the car starts and runs much better now, the problem occurs just like as on the old one at about 1/8 of gas left in it. Thanks!
Must be something wrong in the tank or a vacuum valve. I'd search a forum for that.
How would we get rid of the water in our tank?
Thanks for all your tips n videos
E M I doubt that you have any because once you find out, it's to late. If you start the car and it pumps into the engine, the system will have to be flushed. If you think there is some in the tank and you have not pumped it into the motor, you can disconnect the fuel filter, turn the pump on (jump the relay or simple turn the key to run), and pump it into a container. Also, products like HEAT and STA-BIL displaces a little water/moisture.
ok thanks for ur help have a fun sunday
Worked on a turbo. :(
Replaced a front lower motor mount. :)
Bypassed a SAS system P0410. :)
Thanks. I thought the water would have risen to the top of the gasoline. Now I know.
thanks for watching.
Water does collect in gas tanks and fuel lines from moisture in the air, or from the storage tanks at gas stations.
Today, however, vehicles in most parts of the country burn gasoline that includes up to 10 percent ethanol, a form of alcohol that performs the same water-absorbing chores as brand-name gasoline antifreezes. Products like gas-line antifreeze Heet - which are available at automotive stores - contain ingredients such as isopropyl or methyl alcohol (methanol), but they function in the same way as the ethanol that is already in your fuel.
Gas-line antifreeze isn't expensive and probably can't hurt, but if you have 15 gallons of fuel in your vehicle and 10 percent of it is ethanol, your tank already has 1.5 gallons of alcohol in it. Adding another 12 to 16 ounces of alcohol is not going to provide any additional protection against freezing.
thanks for sharing.
very well done
Thanks for watching.
very very helpful thank you.
Thank you for watching.
I thought the problem with ethanol was due to it drawing moisture out of the air, hence causing water build up in tanks (if they aren't sealed properly)
+Car Nut I really don't know. All I have ever heard about was it jelling.
Good video, thumbs up and shared!
JorRob001 Thanks for watching and sharing.
I have a 84 Olds Cutlass Ciera and if it's been sitting for 3 or 4 months I have 2 sprain starter fluid in it carburetor for almost a half an hour at different times to get it to start. once I get it started no problem unless I go to the store stay about an hour go out and try to start it difficult to start
You probably need a filter or injector.
humidity in the air gets sucked into system... happens more near coastal places like Florida or up here on vancouver island. we actually use methyl hydrate to get rid of it from our tanks... I just drained a tank on a car with 230k km's it had a ton of water in the tank
I don't believe that unless the car was sitting somewhere.
@@RobertDIY, there was close to 4 liters of water in my tank it either came from a bad station pump or someone put there by an a$$hole that has a problem with me... but normally if someone was to sabotage an engine they'd use syrup or sugar ect not just water. car never sat I drove it about 100km's a night as a delivery car for 2 years... the cars death was sudden so I'm actually leaning towards sabotage since I would have noticed the car acting weird if it had been building that much over time. The gas stations I go to are well used and monitored so I doubt it came from them. How ever it got there I think it killed my car. But yes a lot of my friends swear by using methyl hydrate twice a year to ensure any water in their tank is burnable.
Thanks

I have a neighbor that has a car, been sitting for awhile, he starts if it every so often. But I drove around the block a few tips ran good. But when came back and stopped it, and restarted it, it started to chug and rough idle and stalled. Tried again, same thing. I think it's water in the tank. So I'm trying to find the best way to remove water. Thx

Should I buy a car if it was driven with watered down gas? Is there a way to fix it by putting new fuel filter or something? Or is it a bad car now?
Did you watch the video?
Robert DIY ....thanks for share.

Hi Robert,
(I hope you see this comment)
Thanks for the information. I won’t get into details but I’ve been told by my dealership that my (new) 2019 vehicle (which is a hybrid), is filled with 50% water… causing all the recent *start issues. How could it possibly be 50% full of water?? 🙄
must be a leak somewhere.
This just happened to me
More than 5 gallons of water in my tank
Great video by the way
+park1990able yikes!

Thanks for sharing!! My wife purchased gas this past Sunday 2/14/16 from a place she doesn't ordinarily get it, didn't really start noticing a problem until Tuesday, 2/16/2016! Her check engine light was flashing, the car was hesitating/sluggish, and the engine appeared to be shaking slightly!
Went to Autozone and O'reilly's and had it checked via ODB, no codes came up!! Purchased Lucas Fuel Inj/carb treatment, seemed to help temporarily, today back to same issue!! Dumbfounded as to what the problem could be, any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
+kev bra Hey Kev, I don't let my wife get gas, just don't want her at a gas station with strange people. Besides that, what kind of car do you have?
It's a 2004 trailblazer, just got codes from big O!!! It's the 4th plug!! Now, having issue removing it...hoping it isn't seized!! GEEZ!!
So you have a misfire?

Thanks man got a video on hot to fix it or can I just pump the gas from my tank
+hulk buster ua-cam.com/video/5sDzNH45PJE/v-deo.html
Thank you. How to fix water in gas tank?
flush it out with gas.
Gas treatment or white alcohol along with your gas....run car for a while
Let the fuel and water mix with a magnetic stirer. After 10 minutes, throw in a small splash of 2 stroke oil. Continue stirring until the fuel turns white. Now burn it.
Sounds dangerous???
Thank you I appreciate how clear is a SWallis. I think so may have sugar in my gas tank. Do you have a video that describes how a vehicle is affected by that before I take it to mechanic and take it apart?
It simply will not run.
Good
Thanks
How long does it take for gas to go bad? Could it be a month?
Probably 90 days.
Now I know how to prevent my mom's car from starting when I have to go to the doctors.
+twistedyogert hope the doctor's office is further than 3 blocks away. 😉
