    Great review. I really enjoyed the family perspective. Yes the HondaVac would be a very nice addition to this top trim.

    Why don't car companies make led or hid fog lights when the headlights are equipped with led or hid's? It makes no sense other than cutting costs...but really?

    I went down to my local Honda dealer and test drove one on July 2. I test drive every new Honda when they are redesigned. I was really impressed. It's just as easy to drive as a current Honda Accord, doesn't feel unwieldy at all. I am 22 years old, by the way.

    Steve, your description of the transmission was spot on. I have one and all the transmission wants to do in the city is pull the vehicle back.

    awesome review! Loving your reviews and the different opinions from your family :) The pilot is a definite step up! also another point. I've driven the 9 speed on the TLX v6 just feels really sluggish..... and slow... I'm glad you pointed that out, I thought I was the only one... I wish Honda FIXES that 9 speed.....

    Thanks for the review. The 9 speed tranny lags at the starting line from what I hear from all the reviews. Why would Honda not refine that?? What's up with the push button shifting?

  • @dealzguyYT
    @dealzguyYT 9 років тому

    Steve, could you elaborate more on the city driving concerns you have and the transmission noises? Interesting....

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  9 років тому

      Dealzguy Both this and the MDX feel as though they don't want to shift to the next highest gear in slow, around-the-town driving. Kind of like you're in sport mode but you're not. Up in Maine where 20mph is often the limit, it was really exposed.

  • @Mr335iBMW
    @Mr335iBMW 9 років тому

    Great review as always Steve. My wife drives a 2013 Pilot and we've noticed around 40-50 mph under certain conditions the engine will be unresponsive and sounds like it is knocking. Honda dealer and Honda NA said that is "normal" with the VCM. Did you notice that or think that could be what you were blaming on the transmission?

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  9 років тому

      Mr335iBMW Nothing like that here. I'd bet Honda will continue to tweak the software on this unit and eventually get it just right.

    How is the start-stop function on the Pilot?
    Often for a 3 row crossover, often I call the 3rd row a penalty box. (Parents, send the misbehaving kids back there; you can use that conversation mirror (aka a parent's third set of eyes)).
    For those who really need room in the 3rd row, get a Dodge Durango, Chevy Traverse, or GMC Acadia.
    I've also noticed what you said about gear boxes going over 8 speeds. Not only did you see that with the Pilot and Acura MDX, but with FCA with the 2.4L Tigershark Inline-4 and the 9-speed auto, most notably in the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X. It's been a year and a half ago when you test drove the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Did you have those issues with the transmission when you test drove that one? (Note: that had the 3.2L Pentastar V-6)

    I keep hearing about the 9-speed tranny algorithm issues. I am leaving my 2nd Crosstour lease in three month and really want an Elite but am debating going the Durango way. Someone convince me that's a bad idea please! Can Honda do a software update on this tranny shifting issue? Great work on the video by the way!

    Mr. Hammes, as always, a great review. I have a couple of questions. A lot of people say that the Elite Honda Pilot you tested is almost Acura like. I know the Acura MDX is a premium brand, but what would you say are the most differences between the new Elite Pilot and the 2016 MDX and which one would you choose from the two if you had to purchase any of them? Thank you in advance.

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  9 років тому

      Very similar. The infotainment unit is FAR better here. Otherwise, it's mostly a matter of aesthetics.

    • @76carmel
      @76carmel 9 років тому

      Don't forget price. This Pilot is about $9000 less than its luxurious cousin Acura MDX. Check your dealer for pricing. It may vary.

      That's a disappointment. It would be nice to have both of those open. There is plenty of room to make it possible, I'm sure Honda engineers could have figured something out. Oh well, thanks Steve!
