      Same here. I'm 5'7", went from 176 with no muscle to 155 with some muscle. I only started lifting seriously about a year ago and it wasn't until recently that I realized I'm pretty much wasting time in the gym trying to continue a recomp. I look pretty good without a shirt, but otherwise I'm just swimming in clothes, have to struggle for every bit of energy, sleep like crap and am astonishingly weak. I need to get over my insecurities and start a caloric surplus. Otherwise, there's just no room to progress...

    For the most part, it seems my best gains come when I start out as lean as I can and slowly go up. I was skinny growing up, then slowly "graduated" to dad bod in my mid-20s with hilarious inconsistency with lifting, then finally got on track at 31 putting on some newbie gains while slowly cutting all the way to abs that looked like rocks and have been going between slow bulks and cuts since. Bulking has become a bit easier over time to where this next one after this shred is done I'll need to be very mindful to keep the weight gain at 2lbs or less a month in a way that I didn't need to before.

    Patience is a vicious lesson I had to learn when bulking, my first bulk that began last year I went from 63-77kg. I really was out of touch thinking that because I was a newbie that I easily put on 10kg of lean muscle LOL. Luckily reality hit me and I realised I was just fat as shit must of been 25% + and my training was shit.
    Did a death cut down to 68kg (stupidly fast I lost like 8kgs in 2 months defiantly lost muscle) spring of this year and bulked again and now sitting at 75kg maybe 16-18%? Eating far more steady and getting those +1 and +2s far more steadily and more importantly HONESTLY.
    I have learnt a lot from both phases and hopefully I will be less stupid. Thanks for the excellent advice Alex

And my arms are almost 18" now.. They were 17" previously. GVS had a similar point a while back where he mentioned that he made great gains riding the heavy train. He would no longer be in a large surplus, because he'd hit his new maintenance or equilibrium, but he was so heavy and had so much energy that his gym performance remained excellent. I've noticed that as well. Once I'm at my goal weight, I'm happy to stay there for a while and milk it. I might think I should cut, but in reality I'd make excellent gains if I 'maingained' at that body weight for another month or two. Then when progress truly slows down, deload, and do a mini cut in order to reset my appetite and give me more bulking runway, or a long cut if I wanted to get lean.

      You should focus on incline bench more for around a month and get stronger on that which will also recruit your shoulders more which will in return make your flat bench go up when you go back to it. I would suggest on your chest day train your upper chest with incline dumbells or a barbell and then do your flat bench after that in a fatigued state. Do this for a month and then switch back to flat bench first and you will be a lot stronger that’s how I got my bench up good luck bro.

    If you train hard while cutting/maintaining for several months, do you potentiate a bulk? Some people say to reduce your volume and intensity under these conditions, because you’re wasting your time… but I don’t buy into that. My previous top weight was 168lbs. I’ve spent the last 4 months between 158-162. I decided I want to go down to 152 (about 12% body fat at 5’7), so I can feel and perform a bit better on the soccer field for another month or so (still lifting hard 4-5 days a week, not many PRs these days tho). Then, I’m going to flip the script and bulk to 172 over a period of 4 months

    Idk if this is bro science but think about this, the opposite is true too. Cutting gets easier. If a bulked up person like myself continues to build strength for next 3-8 years and maybe reach “Elite numbers”, this is going to impact my bodyfat at the same weight. So imagine I’m 230 at 25% bodyfat realistcally achieving 20lbs of muscle gain in 8 years will drop my bodyfat by a lot. 20lbs is 300-400 extra calories that will lower my set point for bodyfat overtime. Eventually leaner people will get bigger over time and fatter people will get leaner over time. In your case you’ve got bigger over time but this only because you gained muscle because it’s impossible for you to reach above let’s say 25-30% bodyfat without immense suffering being sick and force feeding, so after training legs again gaining 5lbs of lean tissue, you were able to surpass 185lbs in latest bulk.

    • @Derwynn
      @Derwynn Рік тому

      So you’re point is to manipulate calories I.e small surplus I guess the opposite holds true to bear mode guys having a patient small deficit using fat reserves to accumulate muscle and strength over a long period, or to maingain at a comfortable bulked bodyfat and do mini cuts and maingain again. So yeah manipulating calories and being patience is key

    I think a lot of people are not doing the most important thing in bulking: drinking lots (I mean lots...) of water. Muscle is 75 percent water - and for ever gram of carbohydrates which become glycogen in the muscle, 3 grams of water are brought along. When I started tanking up lutres of water, I started getting bigger muscles.

    'll try to keep this short, I can maintain my weight on 3000-3200 calories and need to lose 25lb which will get me looking pretty damn lean, I am also an advanced trainee with a 640kg total on the big three.
    I am considering dropping my calories to 2000 instead of a modest 2500-2700 to try and get it over with soon as I don't really have urges to indulge like ever and I am not even that hungry for most of my diets. This would be the first time attempting it in such away as opposed to 300kcal drops each time weight loss stalls. Considering adherence would be perfect, are thjere any downsides regarding the weight loss rate, amount of muscle lost etc?

    I've been again in a calorie deficit to try and lower that BF but I'd probably have to drop an other 30lbs to be around 15%, Yet I have some striation in the delts/pecs when I look in the mirror, even some abs if I lift the skin up a little bit.
    It's like my body doesn't know it has that much body fat reserve. It's all on the lower abs and upper legs.
    I think if I want to get surgery one of these days it's smarter to keep dieting.

I'm vegan and I struggle to get below 3000 and still get about 180gr (I weigh 90kg, so 1.8gr/kg +20% for plant protein being absorbed less efficient)
