I was waiting for an M3 Mac Mini this year so I could swap out my Windows PC but now I do not mind at all waiting a little longer for an M4 Mac Mini. I am super excited for it
I’ve been using windows forever and I don’t really need another pc. But I’ve been using iPhone and ipads for a long time and I love how easy they synchronize and transfer files. I will most likely get the Mac Mini as my new “toy”.
Great video, I really appreciate your insights! Do you think we’ll see the switch to USB-C keyboard/mouse/trackpad peripherals in that October/November event?
Will need to see the performance from an M2 Pro mac mini to a M4 Pro mac mini to decide if that upgrade is worthwhile. Your video ( thank you! ) gives that impression but would like to see that direct comparison ( or estimate in the case of the M4 Pro mac mini ). Keep it up Craig. Enjoy your honesty.
You can look up the Geekbench 6 scores of the M2 online and then the M4 Pro chip should have that 102,000 Multi-core score for comparison. Thanks again for watching.
A matt black mini would be nice. The base spec's that you mentioned would probably do me other than upping storage. Would be handy to be able to use an Apple tv remote and Siri on it too🤔
iMac 27" and have to have a higher RAM tier, like 48? Mac mini too, I just want a 48GB tier. if the iMac doesn't get M4 pro or stat at 24GB top out, yeah I have to go MacMini or wait until Studio. And can we get some new monitors?
Idk man, I believe the only reason they skipped a generation is because TSMC wanted to stop the N3B process completely A.S.A.P. and continue with the improved N3E. Although it’s currently looking like the N2 process won’t be finished in time for M5/A19. So if they use the N3P node that will give very little performance increase and so yeah they might skip again since it’s not worth the effort, and then again 2NM will bright huge improvements once again. Idk 🤷🏼♂️ I believe they just do what makes sense in this regard. If they have massive performance improvement (20-30% in efficiency or performance) they will update everything and if not they skip, it looks like that’s the trend currently since improvement is slowing down and having improved nodes every year is getting more difficult for TSMC/ASML.
I’m thinking if the base M4 Mac mini could get 4 thunderbolt ports, they got to give the M4 Pro version 6. If they place those ports vertically there would be enough space to do so. My current home Mac is a 2014 and that’s how Apple managed to put 4 USBA ports onto it.
Good info as always. I will say that apple is pretty darn lucky they can get away with the low ram in their systems due to overall efficiency of their hardware and software. Pretty amazing compared to windows. The con is they do charge for it if you want more and that’s frustrating.
All I know, is I would have NEVER tried Apple silicon without the M1 Mini to trial them on….Once I did, I was ALL IN! But my most used machine is STILL the M1 Mini. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a need for the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro quite often. But day to day the Mac Mini and iPad Mini 6 are used by me…the most! If Apple would make the Mini “better” by targeting the higher end workloads, they’d sell a lot more than 2%.
Yes, I do like the minis also for sure. I can't wait to see what the new one brings and will pick on up for sure. I tend to do most of my work at a desk and think they are the best value for sure.

I wonder if they'll ever change the mac mini body. It's a great looking box but seeing it in person, it's definitely bigger than I thought. 😂 Such a power house. I wonder if the Mac Studio is eating out of Apple's sales from their mac minis. The M2 Pro mac mini vs Mac studio M2 Max to me didn't make sense, since they are close in price and the. M2 max definitely does better. The Mac mini line skipping M3 is smart. Good thing they jumped right to M4. I feel M4 chip wise is a game changer compared to M3. M5 may not be so much game changing BUT it'll be similar where they may change the physical look of their devices. To me it's still better than what Intel does for their upgrades where their chips just slight upgrade, ie: 10th gen CPU vs 11th gen CPU. It's not much and Apple does a better job with available upgrades although some may say they are a bit slower to the market. But hey, they do a great job. So far, their ray tracing does a REAL good job since it's their first gen with M3. It will one day compete against Nvidia RTX.
The Mac mini body fits in standard racks in computer rooms, such as at Google. They will leave the form factor alone for people who buy the machines by the truck load.
Yeah, sometimes the difference in price is a major factor. But, with the $1,299 entry price before sales on the M2 Pro and the Studio starting at $1,999 before sales when they come out there is some room there.
Smaller & fanless means deliberate cpu throttle to push users to upgrade to mac studio, dont sell your m2 mac mini. Same logic as macbook air fanless. Hope ram is not reduced to 4 GB.
My iMac is pretty long in the tooth, so I'm eyeing the base M4 Mini. 12 gig memory of course is an improvement, but why would it kill Apple to just put in 16? What would it cost them, 10 bucks more? Sometimes I just do not get Apple's brutal cheapness.
This issue is it would cost them the $200 upgrade and that is why they don't want to do it. But we will see and I hope they finally do the right thing.
What would it cost them to allow us to plug in a new mac mini to our old iMacs and use the perfectly good display. They claim about being environmentally friendly!
@@paulmitchell4544 The only thing I like about my iMac is the Retina display. Wish I could use it with a new Mini. But not to worry: Apple cuts no breaks to anyone.
Even though the Mac Mini is 1% of Apple's revenue, it is one of their best products. It's just hard to beat the simplicity of the Imac, Windows mini-PC convience, or customized gaming desktop towers.
The way Apple's business model works it does not matter at all what percentage a particular product represents of total sales. All of their products make a very good amount of money, none of them are money losers. One should really view the entire product line of medium sized screens to include iPad and Mac. When you aggregate the two together they represent about 65 billion dollars in revenue per year. When you get to the bottom line after they pay taxes and everything else, Apple earns net profits of about 25% on that 65 billion in revenue. That is the definition of a very good business.
But PC World did mainly desktop tests.. in devices with battery the RAM counts more, because it's a part what you NEVER can turn off, you must supply with power even in idle/standby, or it completly wipe the stored data... and it's matters even the 12GB/16GB diff is 33%, which means the constant battery drain all the time is also 33% more just from the RAM. So it's good to stack on a desktop device, but it's best to keep on bare minimum on a device from battery, to lower the idle/standby power consumption as much as you can.. (Windows machines are die just in a few days even if it was fully charged on friday, on monday you can't turn them on without charging, because their RAM use way too much power, not just because it's required more RAM but also it's less efficient, that is the best example when you stack the RAM brainlessly.. even Android stopped to selling 16GB phones, because it's consume way more power.. S20 Ultra had more RAM like S22 Ultra..)
