This is what I did too 20 yrs ago. Keep maintain level untill after obtained Cactuar. But yes no doubt it will bored to those normal gameplayer who just want to beat the game fast.
I did this during my lunch hour after seeing it during your live stream today. Really just got them to 25 and then moved on to the next save point, but I figure that is frankly good enough.
The AP is also very useful for keeping track of how many battles that you have fought while you are getting points for "Attack" on the exam paper; you get exactly 1 AP for each guard, so basically you can just keep track of the points that your Abilities have got, until you have reached 75.
I'm only doing low level for most of the game just to see how OP you can get at the beginning. I've beaten this game tons of times including Omega. This is good if you want to do something different.
Someone tell ^this^ to the haters in the comments here. I just beat the remaster on one console, and I'm contemplating doing it a different way on my other console, because why not? I have heard of the low level playthrough but I never tried it before so why not? If I can beat FF8 at level 8, that would be different :)

Oh so this is how that works. Ok. I finally understand. That means when Squall has Strength +20 %, with every level up, this stat will level up 1 point too. I never played at low level such as 9 or something. But I also have the strength + 20 % equipped since I got it the first time. I find it annoying to keep a too low level but in my playthrough now on the remaster I am not paying to much attention to level up. I am on disc 2 now and my characters are level 23. I am not planning to max them out for now. Just a few exp here and there and it's fine. Back then I played FF VIII alot but I never really was so good because most of it I didn't understand. Yeah I was a kid back then but now that game works way better for me than back in the day. And your FF VIII videos (I did not watch all of them yet) are interesting :)
Well, kind of? The 20% boosts are actually just a boost on your current stats. Like if you have 100 strength then you equip the 20% strength boost, you will have 120 strength. If Ifrit does have an ability that you can equip called "STR Bonus" that provides 1 Strength stat point for every level up and that's permanent. The only stipulation being that you need to have completed obtaining "STR+20%" and "STR+40%" which is 180 GF exp in total.

Great video and very well explained.. Final Fantasy 8 was my first Final Fantasy when I was a kid.. I loved it but never beat it as I didn't understand the junction system and just levelled up normally... Does staying low level effect the bosses also?
It is true the monster's in the game become stronger as you level up at least in the ps1games they did from what I seen about the remake of final fantasy 8 some thing's did change from the first one I noticed👀🤔👀only time will tell if it was good or bad😨🤔😨for those changes made to the beloved classic of a game (at least to me it was and always will be a beloved game for me😔💙💔
@@nancyking-hoffman146 I can personally confirm (as I'm playing the remastered version as we speak) that the foes in the game level up at an average of your party's level, just like in the original. Only major thing I have come across so far that is different from the original is that there is no soft reset to allow for easy RNG manipulation.

I'm glad that I watched this as I'm literally just about to carry on playing FF8 Remastered, just about to go to the area you were at in the video so I'll be able to do this trick/exploit. It does feel like a bit of a cheat but it's only for the 3 GF's like you mentioned so I don't mind levelling them up a bit before carrying on with the game.
GF will be garbo dmg compare to a char junction with 100 flares at lvl 8-9 XD(if farmed up 150 Ruby Dragon Card b4 Ifrit Cavern)...it also ruin perf game of 0 death by killing party members :S(trepies gets mad if you get Quistis kill btw XD)..note that farming 30 of them along 58 Chimera card took me 23 hours :S....once i got 40 Elnoyle card to make Quistis best weapon imma head into the fire cavern(cant get more upgrades that early b4 ifrit cave)....then after cavern imma hope the npc that often play the ruby dragon card to be up(trepie 2 in the classroom)...she's not there b4 ifrit cavern :(....oh ya i'am at 30 Elnoyle card as well(played Cafeteria lady for a mix of Tier 4 and 5 cards)...she's a bit stingy to feed Hexadragon,Ruby and Chimera(Hexa being my main target from Tier 4 set)..afterward can stick to Gatekeeper for Chimera//Elnoyle farm focus..........Balamb(town near garden) npcs are all garbo b4 ifrit cave for cards XD....expecting a 110 hours investment for the most busted opening
If you do this make sure you spread out your gfs evenly. Gfs equipped to dead party members still gain exp and ap, but the more gfs you have equipped to a character the exp they earn is divide by the number of gfs sharing the exp.
I personally do this everytime I play. Lvling up seifer let's you easily farm dragon skins and star fragments from the anacondars and draw lvl 3 magic for everyone since the monsters will lvl up with him.
@Adam Davis See thats what I thought too but sadly this is not the case, enemies during the Seed exam portion of the game dont scale, I had Seifer up to lvl 35 still drawing lvl 1 magic. But you can learn mid-magic refine and convert enough to have 300 -ara versions of cure, fire, blizzard, and thunder by the time you meet Selphie. As for the gf sharing exp if their on one person, that's news to me lol see thats why I love this game, 20 years later I'm still learning things about it :D
@@blakearmentrout7717 they do scale trust me. Lvl 35 siefer is not high enough since you have a lvl 7 squall and lvl 8 bringing down the average level. You wont start seeing lvl 30 enemies till siefer is around lvl 60. I do it every playthrough it's a well tested trick by most ff8 players

The gfs are like puzzle pieces you start with three and add more later on the more you add the slower the growth of the gf also you can use card on thunder if you wish to keep a lower level plus you can get more stuff if you use card ability to change card's into item's 🤔💡
Thats odd cause I use Break on Squall ad Zell so that the enemies will attack them with no effect and let Siefer train the dogs, I mean GF with their abilities to Str+ and Ammo-RF ability with Ifrit level 10.
I never tried to level up my GFs here. I always used the beach and Quezacotl's "Card" ability. Just make sure the party member hitting the fish doesn't have magic junctioned to to their strength. Okay, tried it today. You're right, Simon. The bridge is faster and easier than the beach. Thanks for that.
i love doing low level ff8 runs. its just i want no deaths and minimum escapes. so i cant do this till edea. unless anyone knows a way to get break before dollet mission.
There’s a way to get lion heart on disc 1 without the card game, or without giving up the brothers card, You can train quistis, rinoa and squall to level 30ish and fight the adomantise (sorry if butchered) and then on the dream sequence second tome you go with zell and selphie and keep them lowest you can so you can steal the stuff for pulse ammo from the ufo thing, then fight the wendells with them 3 in the forest :)
I was wondering why your Seifer killed off Squall and Zell in the battle. Turns out it's to prevent Squall and Zell from levelling up. Oh man, i wish i can get Seifer back in the team. I just completed that Dollet exam
This is interesting but at this stage in the game you have only 3 or 4 GF (perhaps you do not even have Diablos)... How can you level up all the others ??? 🤔
oneall23 also Have at least 10 Esunas against the anacondas they can poison you. 300 hp a hit. I still don’t know how to remove it maybe stock on antidotes. and if you want to. try leveling there abilities first and then magic% on the gf’s for last.
Interesting info but I maxed squall zell and selphie for they are my main team I used back in 1999 when I first got ff8. So I maxed them up during the town battle and I maxed out quats shiva ifrit also. I pritty much one shot most enemies with just standard attacks. But I did like this method. I used card method against trex you get 10ap everytime you turn it to a card plus a card and a bone. That's a good way to to LV up GFs
Thanks to the built in speed buff in the remaster you don't need to grind Seifer to learn GF abilities because you can farm the spider boss when he chases you very easy if you have Thundaga on Squall's Elm-atk it only takes a single LB to knock it down you can do this at lv7 and just repeat until he no longer gives you AP which is a clear indicator your GFs has mastered everything available to them. The only other benefits to grinding Seifer is to unlock abilities locked behind GF levels like Ammo-RF which doesn't take long if you're aiming for a lv10 Ifrit. This early into the game Ammo is the only real thing worth getting if you want to eventually get Squall's ultimate weapon and keep him low otherwise you can just wait for Edea at disc 3 so you will benefit much more out of the time grinding GFs
Me too. I literally just passed that Dollet mission. I was happy that I finally managed to escape that spider robot. And was wondering how to get AP for GF. :/ What should we do now..? I don't want to restart either, i feel like i've done lots of work to get past this spider robot and dollet mission :/
Please note that you can only do this with Seifer as long as he remains with you, and there is no save point between the time he joins you and the time he leaves, so you can't save your game. As Rory said, it's better to do this trick with Edea because you can save on the overworld and you'll have almost all of the GFs(except Eden) instead of just Quetz, Shiva and Ifrit, but you need to equip a Ribbon to her as the enemies get really nasty as they level up. (Don't worry, the monster levels will reset when the guest character leaves.)
@@rosamontoya9154 you can... He is just wrong. I just did it today got my GF above level 50 all useful abilities unlocked and seifer above level 80 while other party members are still level 7 and 8.
Oof. That seems really really really really long and tedious process. I was totally expecting to see spider farming when I saw video be about Dollet. I'm pretty sure that gave like 20 AP, no exp, could have Siren by that point and battle wasn't much longer with proper junctions.
Spider is great for AP but GFs need EXP to level up their stats (health and damage) and if I'm not mistaken they also unlock certain abilities to be able to learn at certain levels as well.
Yep but the point of this video is to get GF EXP without party getting EXP. GF also level up with EXP, they learn abilities with AP. AP with no EXP = average GF damage with lots of abilities. However AP AND EXP for GFs (and not party) = SUPER DAMAGE GFs with ALL abilities unlocked.

My squall is level 33 while my other party members are like 22. Will that make all enemies default to the 33? Makes the game super hard. Is it possible to beat this game without worrying about levels? I was so used to farming and leveling up in part 7. To be disappointed that I cant do that in 8. I’m glad they scrapped this idea

I'm still trying to get a no game over game and haven't pulled it off yet with Final Fantasy 8. Normally there's an enemy that hits my whole party with an instant Death attack before I can junction Death to my status defense. Like those Skeletons with the swords where you get the Brothers summon(gf)😭
Simon if I want to build up my GF's levels and have them learn abilities and no longer have Seifer who else will I use and even if my party turned a monster into a card?

I think you've missed the point of this video lol It is true what you said you can power level your party/GFs anywhere. However if you do it with main party members then your average party level (which determines monsters and bosses levels that you will fight throughout the game) will also be higher. Seifer is only a temporary party member so levelling him up doesn't affect you for the rest of the game just for the one mission and only for the part of it that he is with you. ;) Basically you could say power level your GFs that you have at this point to lvl 100 then finish the mission with your level 8 characters (Seifer leaves) and your average party level will be 8, however your GFs will be doing Level 100 GF damage and have Level 100 GF abilities. They are likely going to do 9999 damage every time you summon them on monsters and bosses which will be at your party average level which is 8 at this point = instadeath for most things. Hope this helps clarify. :)
@@playaone1173 You can also just turn your enemies into cards using the Card ability. That's what I'm going. Have almost all of the GF abilities for Ifrit, Quetzalcoatl, and Shiva and Squall is like level 9 still. I'm about to go do the Seed exam.
I think it would be interesting if the lvl abilities like lvl up and lvl down could be used on your own party members even though that could break the game
If Only You Could Do This For SIREN, So She Could Get "Treatment" Early On. I Be Playing The PSX Version, And Will Be Using A Code To Have "Seifer And Edea" Throughout The Game, Leveling ONLY Edea. This Way I Can Max Out Seifer's Stats End-Game As Well.

If Your Not Using A Code To Have Those 2 Characters And Wanting Early Laser Cannons, The Character To Level Would Be Irvine As He Always Joins At The Highest Level Of The 6 Main Characters, Which Is Level 13. Basically, If You Only Level "1" Character To A HIGH Level While Staying Low Level With The REST, You Trick The Game With The AVG(Average) Party Level. Similar To The "Seifer Trick" You Can Do In The SeeD Exam.

Level 30+ Adamantoises Drop The Adamantines And You Can Mug Any Level-Adamantoise For A "Whisper"(Teaches Quistis White Wind). Those 2 Battles Give 8 And 9 AP Respectively Too, Which Is Great. Also If You Didn't Get The Force Armlet Off X-ATM092 In The SeeD Exam, Level 30+ Ochus(Found In Timber-Roshfall Forest) Rarely Drop Those As Well. Force Armlet Is One Of 4 Materials Needed For Rinoa's Final Weapon. I Always Got That Off X-ATM092 To Avoid Leveling As Much As Possible.
This a good tip and all I just don't find this fun. Same with Oblivion I could be a orc mage with a bunch of major and minor skills I won't use to be op... But it feels like an exploit if I'm gonna do this I might as well just enable cheats
There is a sense of accomplishment with successfully implementing an alternate strategy (even if you want to call it an exploit that is sort of an opinion) that take skill work and planning vs enabling a cheat with a press of a few buttons that take no skill no planning and no work. Power levelling is still work (grind) so what's the difference? It's just a different way to do things.
It's a better feeling when you played through the game already. At least for me anyway. It's cool having many different ways to beat the game. I'm almost level 30 and about to farm magic from Diablo and start the queen of card quest before moving on with the timber mission.
I think the farming on the beach against the golden fishes (don’t ask me to spell out their name) and using the Card ability for a kill is a better way level up your GF’s without gaining experience. That’s 6AP per battle!
You're thinking of the GF abilities, which are learned by gaining AP. GFs also have levels, and they will not gain experience unless the character they are junctioned to gain experience. There are a small handful of GF abilities that cannot be learned until the GF reaches are a certain level.
There's really 2 options if you're doing a power-up run like this. First option is to wait until disc 3, once you get the Cactaur GF, since it has all of the Bonus abilities, as well as the 5 individual ones from Ifrit, Siren, Brothers, Carbuncle, and Leviathan. This means you can level up 2 characters simultaneously (start with Quistis and someone that's NOT Squall on the Island Closest to Hell using Quistis' Degenerator Blue Magic) The second method is to start this process earlier with Quistis while Edea is in the party in Esthar to use her as backup support, since you have access to all the individual Bonus abilities, but this is only beneficial if you want to take advantage of getting enemies to higher levels for better drops and spells early (just like using Seifer to get better drops and spells in Dollet, you have to get Quistis up to a minimum of lv60 to get enemies to an average level of 30+).
The snakes are much better for grinding. Make sure to farm cards beforehand so when you get card mod you can junction tornado you health to survive the snakes
I stopped doing this "trick" when all 3 GF's where level 50+. You can also get Punisher weapon super early using card battles and the Card Mod ability. I think I may be super OP now :)
Usually I have my guardian forces around level 3 to level 5 by the time I hit the spider fight by varvara be grinded and learned most of the skills that I deem important including the strength of spirit and Magic bonuses. I do this by abusing the car function quite handily before the mission so I'm usually five to six hours in before I even go to the Doilet it training mission

You're better off farming the spider on the bridge. You'll have pleantly of time and I believe you don't gain any experience but you'll get 50 ap every battle with it. If you're op at this point you'll kill it fairly quickly.
The whole point is to get your gfs experience leveling then up so they can learn new abilities like ifrit ammo rf and mad rush and there's another on Shiva you can learn also it will make your gfs really powerful one shotting most enemies all while keep your actual parties level as low as possible making gfs actually worth it to summon one shotting the spider etc
I use to think the same thing. But it is the proper way to play Final Fantasy 8 though. Fuzzy finger gaming didn't mention it, but you're not supposed to level up until disc 3 right after you get the Cactuar. I know that seems like a long time but it can be done. I've done it myself. And the reason I say Cactuar summon(GF) is because it has strength up, magic up, magic defense up, and physical defense up abilities. Which is way more than Ifirit and Shiva can ever offer.
spoiler alert, mastering the 3 GFs with this method will take seifer all the way to level 100. It's 18+ hours of gameplay! It's fun to 1shot the robot and get the 50AP every time tho 🤣
So if I use a party member that I won't be using very often like selfie I could get them to 99 with this method and have a good excuse not to use them interesting
lol no need to be such a little bitch about it. For more context - the enemies level up as you do so it’s mainly all relative as to what rank you are vs where you are in the game. If you’re new to the game then you’ll definitely benefit from prioritising that the GFs learn the right abilities first. However, as per my comment, you’d have to be seriously struggling for this method (levelling up GFs with Seifer) to really be worth it and I don’t think it’s a strong enough trade off against just doing some levelling with your team later in the game. In my opinion of course.
@Paul Mcewan The thing is no it's not "worth the effort" if your just casually playing the game as intended, but for alot of people who have mastered the game and find it stupidly easy this adds a new level of challenge to the game by setting the handicap of "no level ups" while still maxing stats, also even though the enemies lvl as you do, they do so at a much greater rate, enemeis gain 3 lvls to your 1 so you still need proper majic junctioned to stay ahead of the curve, this method eliminates alot of even more tedious grinding later on. If you ever played World of Warcraft you would meet tons of Twink players who turn off exp gains at lvl 60 and play the whole game in the best gear available to them even though the lvl cap is 120, sure it sounds crazy but to them it's fun. I finished this game twice already at lvl 100 doing different stuff and about to attempt a no lvl up run without using the cheats just to see if I can, I waited 20 years for this game to get redone and I plan to enjoy every second of it :D

Great video and very well explained.. Final Fantasy 8 was my first Final Fantasy when I was a kid.. I loved it but never beat it as I didn't understand the junction system and just levelled up normally... Does staying low level effect the bosses also?
Pretty sure the bosses stay with your level. Or else it would be pretty hard I would imagine
they do... cause it allows even omega weapon to be a low level.
It is true the monster's in the game become stronger as you level up at least in the ps1games they did from what I seen about the remake of final fantasy 8 some thing's did change from the first one I noticed👀🤔👀only time will tell if it was good or bad😨🤔😨for those changes made to the beloved classic of a game (at least to me it was and always will be a beloved game for me😔💙💔
@@nancyking-hoffman146 I can personally confirm (as I'm playing the remastered version as we speak) that the foes in the game level up at an average of your party's level, just like in the original. Only major thing I have come across so far that is different from the original is that there is no soft reset to allow for easy RNG manipulation.

I'm glad that I watched this as I'm literally just about to carry on playing FF8 Remastered, just about to go to the area you were at in the video so I'll be able to do this trick/exploit. It does feel like a bit of a cheat but it's only for the 3 GF's like you mentioned so I don't mind levelling them up a bit before carrying on with the game.
GF will be garbo dmg compare to a char junction with 100 flares at lvl 8-9 XD(if farmed up 150 Ruby Dragon Card b4 Ifrit Cavern)...it also ruin perf game of 0 death by killing party members :S(trepies gets mad if you get Quistis kill btw XD)..note that farming 30 of them along 58 Chimera card took me 23 hours :S....once i got 40 Elnoyle card to make Quistis best weapon imma head into the fire cavern(cant get more upgrades that early b4 ifrit cave)....then after cavern imma hope the npc that often play the ruby dragon card to be up(trepie 2 in the classroom)...she's not there b4 ifrit cavern :(....oh ya i'am at 30 Elnoyle card as well(played Cafeteria lady for a mix of Tier 4 and 5 cards)...she's a bit stingy to feed Hexadragon,Ruby and Chimera(Hexa being my main target from Tier 4 set)..afterward can stick to Gatekeeper for Chimera//Elnoyle farm focus..........Balamb(town near garden) npcs are all garbo b4 ifrit cave for cards XD....expecting a 110 hours investment for the most busted opening
If you do this make sure you spread out your gfs evenly. Gfs equipped to dead party members still gain exp and ap, but the more gfs you have equipped to a character the exp they earn is divide by the number of gfs sharing the exp.
I personally do this everytime I play. Lvling up seifer let's you easily farm dragon skins and star fragments from the anacondars and draw lvl 3 magic for everyone since the monsters will lvl up with him.
@Adam Davis See thats what I thought too but sadly this is not the case, enemies during the Seed exam portion of the game dont scale, I had Seifer up to lvl 35 still drawing lvl 1 magic. But you can learn mid-magic refine and convert enough to have 300 -ara versions of cure, fire, blizzard, and thunder by the time you meet Selphie.
As for the gf sharing exp if their on one person, that's news to me lol see thats why I love this game, 20 years later I'm still learning things about it :D
@@blakearmentrout7717 they do scale trust me. Lvl 35 siefer is not high enough since you have a lvl 7 squall and lvl 8 bringing down the average level. You wont start seeing lvl 30 enemies till siefer is around lvl 60. I do it every playthrough it's a well tested trick by most ff8 players
@Adam Davis Yeah I relized that as soon as I had typed it lol I used this method 20 years ago in original and just assumed it got changed in the remaster, but your right the dead weight fighters were bringing me down and I didnt have patients to grind another 5 hours for the better spells lol

The gfs are like puzzle pieces you start with three and add more later on the more you add the slower the growth of the gf also you can use card on thunder if you wish to keep a lower level plus you can get more stuff if you use card ability to change card's into item's 🤔💡
Thats odd cause I use Break on Squall ad Zell so that the enemies will attack them with no effect and let Siefer train the dogs, I mean GF with their abilities to Str+ and Ammo-RF ability with Ifrit level 10.
I never tried to level up my GFs here. I always used the beach and Quezacotl's "Card" ability. Just make sure the party member hitting the fish doesn't have magic junctioned to to their strength.

You can train quistis, rinoa and squall to level 30ish and fight the adomantise (sorry if butchered) and then on the dream sequence second tome you go with zell and selphie and keep them lowest you can so you can steal the stuff for pulse ammo from the ufo thing, then fight the wendells with them 3 in the forest :)

oneall23 also Have at least 10 Esunas against the anacondas they can poison you. 300 hp a hit. I still don’t know how to remove it maybe stock on antidotes. and if you want to. try leveling there abilities first and then magic% on the gf’s for last.
Interesting info but I maxed squall zell and selphie for they are my main team I used back in 1999 when I first got ff8. So I maxed them up during the town battle and I maxed out quats shiva ifrit also. I pritty much one shot most enemies with just standard attacks. But I did like this method. I used card method against trex you get 10ap everytime you turn it to a card plus a card and a bone. That's a good way to to LV up GFs
You don't need the computer to take the test..you can do it from the tutorial..

Glad I came after learning how to grind my GF.
Thanks to the built in speed buff in the remaster you don't need to grind Seifer to learn GF abilities because you can farm the spider boss when he chases you very easy if you have Thundaga on Squall's Elm-atk it only takes a single LB to knock it down you can do this at lv7 and just repeat until he no longer gives you AP which is a clear indicator your GFs has mastered everything available to them. The only other benefits to grinding Seifer is to unlock abilities locked behind GF levels like Ammo-RF which doesn't take long if you're aiming for a lv10 Ifrit. This early into the game Ammo is the only real thing worth getting if you want to eventually get Squall's ultimate weapon and keep him low otherwise you can just wait for Edea at disc 3 so you will benefit much more out of the time grinding GFs
But you still NEED to use Seifer to have the GF's easily kill that spider boss with 1 GF IE all 3 GF AT lv 100l before you fight it.

Me too. I literally just passed that Dollet mission. I was happy that I finally managed to escape that spider robot. And was wondering how to get AP for GF. :/ What should we do now..? Please note that you can only do this with Seifer as long as he remains with you, and there is no save point between the time he joins you and the time he leaves, so you can't save your game. As Rory said, it's better to do this trick with Edea because you can save on the overworld and you'll have almost all of the GFs(except Eden) instead of just Quetz, Shiva and Ifrit, but you need to equip a Ribbon to her as the enemies get really nasty as they level up. (Don't worry, the monster levels will reset when the guest character leaves.)

Oof. That seems really really really really long and tedious process. I was totally expecting to see spider farming when I saw video be about Dollet. I'm pretty sure that gave like 20 AP, no exp, could have Siren by that point and battle wasn't much longer with proper junctions.
Spider is great for AP but GFs need EXP to level up their stats (health and damage) and if I'm not mistaken they also unlock certain abilities to be able to learn at certain levels as well.

that's easy, when you get to Disc 3, just stick all ya bois and grills on Edea before you go to clear the Great Salt Lake on the way to Esthar

Yep but the point of this video is to get GF EXP without party getting EXP. GF also level up with EXP, they learn abilities with AP. AP with no EXP = average GF damage with lots of abilities. However AP AND EXP for GFs (and not party) = SUPER DAMAGE GFs with ALL abilities unlocked.

My squall is level 33 while my other party members are like 22. Will that make all enemies default to the 33? Makes the game super hard. Is it possible to beat this game without worrying about levels? I was so used to farming and leveling up in part 7. To be disappointed that I cant do that in 8. I’m glad they scrapped this idea

I'm still trying to get a no game over game and haven't pulled it off yet with Final Fantasy 8. Normally there's an enemy that hits my whole party with an instant Death attack before I can junction Death to my status defense. Like those Skeletons with the swords where you get the Brothers summon(gf)😭
Final fantasy 4 had dynamic leveling rendering all grinding for level useless as well.
if you dont wanna kill your team, you can break them so they can be a shield for you :D

The beach in the beginning of the game before even going after ifrit you can op squall an quintis to high level an your GF's.
I think you've missed the point of this video lol It is true what you said you can power level your party/GFs anywhere. However if you do it with main party members then your average party level (which determines monsters and bosses levels that you will fight throughout the game) will also be higher. Seifer is only a temporary party member so levelling him up doesn't affect you for the rest of the game just for the one mission and only for the part of it that he is with you. ;) Basically you could say power level your GFs that you have at this point to lvl 100 then finish the mission with your level 8 characters (Seifer leaves) and your average party level will be 8, however your GFs will be doing Level 100 GF damage and have Level 100 GF abilities. They are likely going to do 9999 damage every time you summon them on monsters and bosses which will be at your party average level which is 8 at this point = instadeath for most things. Hope this helps clarify. :)
@@playaone1173 You can also just turn your enemies into cards using the Card ability. That's what I'm going. Have almost all of the GF abilities for Ifrit, Quetzalcoatl, and Shiva and Squall is like level 9 still. I'm about to go do the Seed exam.
So you can also do this later with Edea as well.
I think it would be interesting if the lvl abilities like lvl up and lvl down could be used on your own party members even though that could break the game

Level 30+ Adamantoises Drop The Adamantines And You Can Mug Any Level-Adamantoise For A "Whisper"(Teaches Quistis White Wind). Those 2 Battles Give 8 And 9 AP Respectively Too, Which Is Great. Also If You Didn't Get The Force Armlet Off X-ATM092 In The SeeD Exam, Level 30+ Ochus(Found In Timber-Roshfall Forest) Rarely Drop Those As Well. Force Armlet Is One Of 4 Materials Needed For Rinoa's Final Weapon. I Always Got That Off X-ATM092 To Avoid Leveling As Much As Possible.

This a good tip and all I just don't find this fun. Same with Oblivion I could be a orc mage with a bunch of major and minor skills I won't use to be op... But it feels like an exploit if I'm gonna do this I might as well just enable cheats
There is a sense of accomplishment with successfully implementing an alternate strategy (even if you want to call it an exploit that is sort of an opinion) that take skill work and planning vs enabling a cheat with a press of a few buttons that take no skill no planning and no work. Power levelling is still work (grind) so what's the difference? It's just a different way to do things.
It's a better feeling when you played through the game already. At least for me anyway. It's cool having many different ways to beat the game. I'm almost level 30 and about to farm magic from Diablo and start the queen of card quest before moving on with the timber mission.
I think the farming on the beach against the golden fishes (don’t ask me to spell out their name) and using the Card ability for a kill is a better way level up your GF’s without gaining experience. That’s 6AP per battle!
You're thinking of the GF abilities, which are learned by gaining AP. GFs also have levels, and they will not gain experience unless the character they are junctioned to gain experience. There are a small handful of GF abilities that cannot be learned until the GF reaches are a certain level.
Only time will tell if it stands the test of time like the first one did😨🤔😨

There's really 2 options if you're doing a power-up run like this. First option is to wait until disc 3, once you get the Cactaur GF, since it has all of the Bonus abilities, as well as the 5 individual ones from Ifrit, Siren, Brothers, Carbuncle, and Leviathan. This means you can level up 2 characters simultaneously (start with Quistis and someone that's NOT Squall on the Island Closest to Hell using Quistis' Degenerator Blue Magic)
The second method is to start this process earlier with Quistis while Edea is in the party in Esthar to use her as backup support, since you have access to all the individual Bonus abilities, but this is only beneficial if you want to take advantage of getting enemies to higher levels for better drops and spells early (just like using Seifer to get better drops and spells in Dollet, you have to get Quistis up to a minimum of lv60 to get enemies to an average level of 30+).
I try to do the farming but my gfs don't level up I just get there abilitys is that right?
How do you get Seifer to cast his limitbreak with no aura and no low hp kupo ?
He activates his limit break quite often he doesn’t need to be low hp for it
press triangle many many times, sometimes you get the limitbreak even with full hp!!!
The snakes are much better for grinding.
Make sure to farm cards beforehand so when you get card mod you can junction tornado you health to survive the snakes

I stopped doing this "trick" when all 3 GF's where level 50+. You can also get Punisher weapon super early using card battles and the Card Mod ability. I think I may be super OP now :)
Usually I have my guardian forces around level 3 to level 5 by the time I hit the spider fight by varvara be grinded and learned most of the skills that I deem important including the strength of spirit and Magic bonuses. I do this by abusing the car function quite handily before the mission so I'm usually five to six hours in before I even go to the Doilet it training mission
I have every gf level 100 except eden I'm working on it lol
I dont see why people feel the need to keep low level. The game has always been easy even with high level characters.

You're better off farming the spider on the bridge. You'll have pleantly of time and I believe you don't gain any experience but you'll get 50 ap every battle with it. If you're op at this point you'll kill it fairly quickly.
The whole point is to get your gfs experience leveling then up so they can learn new abilities like ifrit ammo rf and mad rush and there's another on Shiva you can learn also it will make your gfs really powerful one shotting most enemies all while keep your actual parties level as low as possible making gfs actually worth it to summon one shotting the spider etc

I use to think the same thing. But it is the proper way to play Final Fantasy 8 though. Fuzzy finger gaming didn't mention it, but you're not supposed to level up until disc 3 right after you get the Cactuar. I know that seems like a long time but it can be done. I've done it myself. And the reason I say Cactuar summon(GF) is because it has strength up, magic up, magic defense up, and physical defense up abilities. Which is way more than Ifirit and Shiva can ever offer.
spoiler alert, mastering the 3 GFs with this method will take seifer all the way to level 100. It's 18+ hours of gameplay! It's fun to 1shot the robot and get the 50AP every time tho 🤣
So if I use a party member that I won't be using very often like selfie I could get them to 99 with this method and have a good excuse not to use them interesting

lol no need to be such a little bitch about it. For more context - the enemies level up as you do so it’s mainly all relative as to what rank you are vs where you are in the game. If you’re new to the game then you’ll definitely benefit from prioritising that the GFs learn the right abilities first. However, as per my comment, you’d have to be seriously struggling for this method (levelling up GFs with Seifer) to really be worth it and I don’t think it’s a strong enough trade off against just doing some levelling with your team later in the game. In my opinion of course.
@Paul Mcewan The thing is no it's not "worth the effort" if your just casually playing the game as intended, but for alot of people who have mastered the game and find it stupidly easy this adds a new level of challenge to the game by setting the handicap of "no level ups" while still maxing stats, also even though the enemies lvl as you do, they do so at a much greater rate, enemeis gain 3 lvls to your 1 so you still need proper majic junctioned to stay ahead of the curve, this method eliminates alot of even more tedious grinding later on. If you ever played World of Warcraft you would meet tons of Twink players who turn off exp gains at lvl 60 and play the whole game in the best gear available to them even though the lvl cap is 120, sure it sounds crazy but to them it's fun. I finished this game twice already at lvl 100 doing different stuff and about to attempt a no lvl up run without using the cheats just to see if I can, I waited 20 years for this game to get redone and I plan to enjoy every second of it :D
