Honestly best one for me will always be SpongeBobs first Christmas. It was exactly a way to get kids to understand the holidays as SpongeBob gets to know it at the same time while giving Squidward a win by the end

i love how all of them are in general lessons that the characters learn and have somewhat normal plots but invader zim is just total bonkers

I think what makes Helga’s sacrifice more powerful is that not only was that a gift she wanted, but given her home life it was probably the only gift she got.

The best part of the Zim Christmas special is that it was one of, if not the last episode of Zim to air on Nick at the time. So the final shot of this series is a giant Santa monster attacking Earth. In hindsight its so perfectly Zim to go out that way
It was the absolute last episode. The final planned episode was scrapped as Zim and Dib literally DIED. Though now the cannon ending is Invader Zim Enter the Florpus
It was indeed the last episode! Hence the joke about minimoose having been there the whole time. The creator just chose the christmas special to be the one finished over others such as the one about minimoose's creation. And hey, it worked. Very fun way to end the series.
Hey Arnolds Christmas will always be a 10/10 for me. Especially the last part with Helga standing outside his house saying "Merry Xmas Arnold."

The Rugrats had a Hanukkah special and I remembered Blue Clues holiday special. I distinctly remember Steve and Blue walking by peoples houses and they pass by a family celebrating Kawanza, and then someone explaining Kwanzaa, then a family celebrating Hanukkah then they go home and celebrate Christmas.
The Proud Family had a Kwanzaa episode.

Foreal bro even though im Mexican i always loved that episode. Cuz as a kid I always wanted to know how other “people” at the time. Not knowing about race a and culture as a kid. I always want to know how people celebrated there version of “Christmas”

What makes the Zim special even better is that it was the last episode. Until the Netflix movie came out a few years ago, the series ended on a santa robot traveling through space to return each year to threaten the Earth
My favorite SpongeBob Christmas Special was the stop-motion animation they did, along with the fairly odd parent's Christmas special. Those were the ones I enjoyed the most.
I saw that Hey Arnold episode once as a kid, and I never forgot it. It has carved itself into a permanent place in my mind. I think about it a random year-round and cry about Mr. Huynh's separation from his daughter and their reunion.
While I am not the biggest fan of Hey Arnold, I still have to admit that its Christmas specials is one best Christmas TV Specials out there. Solely on is presenting one of the biggest core meaning of Christmas.
I would never wait for hey arnold to play but if when i switched on the tv and i saw it i use to watch it. It was alright tho "mr football head"😅

I used to have the Invader Zim Christmas episode downloaded on my iPod touch, and I would watch it multiple times throughout the year not just at Christmas time lol, will always be one of my favorites.
I’ll never forget the kid saying “I’m so happy my heart could explode” and literally dropping dead a second later 😂

As told by Ginger is in the bottom on my list because Ginger could still celebrate both holidays but she needs to learn how to balance them. Another tick I have is her friends getting upset at her instead of learning and celebrating the holiday with her. They are still celebrating a holiday just with a different way and they all can arrange a new tradition. Poor girl, she didn't need to be this stressed.

Holy shit, you unlocked some childhood memories talking about the Hey Arnold Christmas special. At the beginning I was like “what was this one about again” and then the first clip of the backstory showed up and I was just hit with the feels, I remember crying every time that special was on, it was so sad but so happy at the same time
Cartoon Network did a live stream of their show's Christmas episodes, so this feels really well timed. I hope to see you do Cartoon Network next year!!
the Adventure Time xmas episode with Simon's tapes made me tear up first time it came on, one of the best episodes for how it pivoted the show.
I think with the Hey Arnold episode Mr. Hyun’s story was implied to take place in the Vietnam war. The scene where he hands his child over to the soldiers in the airplane was based off of the fall of Saigon where that kind of thing definitely happened, where people were trying to get on the plane and if they couldn’t get on, would try to get their kids on to get out of the country because they knew they’d be killed for working with the US and had been promised by the US that they would protect them from their government but when the time came most were left behind…
"Santa comes to save him with his tractor beam" is not a sentence I thought I would ever hear

you said none of the specials talk about other holidays, but you totally missed the fact that Rugrats has an entire Hanukkah special. Rugrats is one of the only TV shows I can think of that has a dedicated Hanukkah special. And more importantly, a dedicated Passover special. such an incredible show

Hey Arnold’s Christmas story has made me cry for like 25 years straight
In the rugrats Christmas special Angelica also has a nightmare where Santa murders her with a mountain of coal, and also, the Santa that shows up is HEAVILY implied to be the REAL Santa because the Santa-for-hire never made it and Chaz is stuck in the chimney. Either that or some psycho is going around the woods late at night giving away stolen toys to people in the Rugrats world....

I really think you should take a look at and rank all the other Nicktoon Christmas specials. You're missing out on some real gems like Harvey Beaks' "It's Christmas You Dorks", Loud House's "11 Louds A Leapin" and the stop-motion SpongeBob special.

I remember Rugrats had other holidays /Christmas specials. Ones that actually touched on both Hanukkah and the meaning behind Kwanzaa that were actually pretty real good episodes that I still remember to this day. Also the Proud Family had a great episode on Kwanzaa that explains the holiday in a pretty meaningful way that I can recall even now.
The IZ episode almost didn't happen, too. Because of the mid-season cancellation they were basically given the overhead to produce two other episodes (which had only been scripted), or to take that time and money and finish "Gaz, Taster of Pork" and fully produce the Christmas episode, which was much further down the intended production pipeline. They decided on the Christmas special, in part because it could work as a series finale.
I would actually rank the Hey Arnold! episode above it specifically as a Christmas special for Christmas feels but The Most Horrible X-Mas Ever is raw lunatic delight beginning to end and end just cracks me up every time.

For Avatar the closest things to Christmas specials in my eyes were the Siege of the North episodes, a few of the Ba Sing Se episodes, and the Black Sun Episodes. They aren’t specifically Christmas themed I just remember seeing them around Christmas time a lot.
