(genius character, holding their rage, with a twich in their eye) Genius character: FINE. You wanna look for (insert X thing of the holiday special). LET'S DO IT! SO I CAN RUB IT IN YOUR FACES THAT IT FACTUALLY DOESN'T EXIST Side characters: HOLIDAY SPECIAL!!
It occurs to me that the reason Retroville doesn't look Christmas-y and nobody's wearing winter clothes is because their limited CG budget wouldn't allow for such sweeping changes to the set. Sure, DNA had a few snowy landscapes in their backlot they could reuse for the North Pole, but they probably spent their entire modeling budget for this episode on Santa's workshop.
"Are you saying that Jeff Bezos is secretly Santa Clause?" Well, according to that God-awful Santa Inc. show from 2021, he can't be Santa; he's Santa's biggest business rival, apparently.
As a Texan, I think their representation of December weather is accurate. Also, to answer the question of "Christmas special without snow", I just have to say *"GARBAGE DAY!"*
What's interesting is that it's completely in-character for Jimmy to disprove Santa's existence. Jimmy has been shown to be a buzz kill before. There's one episode where he and his friends stake out an amusement park to disprove the existence of a phantom. Cindy even directly calls him out for ruining everyone's fun. So, I can buy Jimmy doing what he does in this episode. It's just that he is constantly trying to prove his superiority, and he doesn't get his comeuppance in a satisfying way like in the phantom episode.
Or how about the episode where he goes out of his way to disprove a cryptic lake monster, only to later find out that it was Carl’s old pet turtle that got mutated into a Kaiju by chemicals his dad tossed in the lake for no reason.
Also the episode where he goes to disprove the Bahama Quadrangle disappearances and finds a mad scientist hiding down there who was mutating people into plant monsters.
I think the problem isn't that Jimmy tries to disprove Santa's existence, it's probably the execution that's the problem. Like for another example of this kind of story, that Dexter episode (YES I know it was an April Fools day episode, but that doesn't automatically make it good because it's execution wasn't great). Granted they probably didn't wanted us to root for Dexter, but the way the episode was structured and how they just wanted it to be the complete opposite message of Christmas' true meaning, it still comes off more as jarring. Granted Jimmy here didn't do the same thing as Dexter, but they really could've tried to teach him better without making him come off as a bit arrogant with his quest in debunking Santa's existence. Not only that, other characters like Cindy and Livy trying to expose Jimmy 'ruining' Christmas and the Fat Elf really didn't jive with me.
Cindy actually got done dirty in this episode. She actually was upset with Jimmy for almost ruining Christmas for Carl and wanted to get back at him for doing that, but gets treated with a lump of coal for her efforts. But don't worry Jimmy you're not the only animated boy genius with a not-so-great Christmas episode
To be fair, they did record Jimmy's blunder and made it public just to spite him for hurting Carl's feelings even though Jimmy didn't mean to. Santa knew they did it for all the wrong reasons and they got a lump of coal for that. Plus it was all Libby's idea. She even said "Do me a favor: Next time I say we should humiliate somebody, DON'T LISTEN!"

Yeah, the idea of "no way a person exists specifically for this job when I could do it, lol" is really silly. It feels less like an actual stream of logic and more like a weird flex.
As a Texan I will have to say that weather here is VERY bipolar. Some years, the start of winter is determined in hindsight. The temperature can rapidly fluctuate through out the day and the week. This is further compounded by the fact that different areas of Texas experience different weather and temperatures. North Texas gets more hail and snow compared to south Texas. East Texas is more humid so temperature extremes are the norm, while west Texas is comparatively drier. Now I'm shocked the show took place in Texas at all. But the lack of a traditional white Christmas setting for a green Christmas one. In my personal experience very accurate, but I acknowledge that its a definite break from the norm.
I had family in southeast Houston, so I was always amused when we went down after Christmas and saw perfectly healthy _palm trees_ -- my home is 600 miles further north and 1500' higher in elevation, so winter is a crapshoot -- we've had a couple of White Christmases in my lifetime but more often it's ~50ºF/10ºC with plants/grass wintering
You know in February 2021, Texas got the very subzero experiences and even far south Texas couldn’t get out of the 20s temperature when the average was in the 60s-70s range in that month!
As a Texan, I gotta be the person that says, "Yes, wearing a tank-top and summer clothes all year is definitely a thing, even on Christmas. In 30 years, I've seen snow fall three times, and never did it coat the ground. And depending on the tree, they would not be bare until January." But in reality, it's a CG budget limitation Nick didn't want to spend.

I've traveled from home in the Mid-Atlantic to Florida during the Christmas season and my sister lives in California, you'd be hard pressed to tell it was December in both places without the holiday decorations. In fact, holiday decorations were how Tim Burton was able to tell the seasons were changing because he lived in Burbank his whole life, and stores changing from Halloween to Christmas decorations were what inspired him to create "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
Depends on where you are in Texas. Amarillo I know for sure gets a good amount of snow typically. Also most places I've lived in not counting Texas - St. Louis and southern Maryland don't typically get a drop of snow until after Christmas and even then it's occasional and doesn't stay around for long. Gets cold as hell in eastern Missouri though. Living in DFW though I've gone through single digits, but I can't exactly say the same for southern Maryland (teens certainly but single digits I have no idea; I'm near the Chesapeake bay so winters stay slightly warmer). Retroville is set in the Houston or Austin area if I recall...

Jimmy Neutron managed to do the one thing that Minty couldn’t do in A Very Minty Christmas. He broke Santa. The “You broke Santa?” line in that MLP G3 Christmas special immediately reminded me of this Jimmy Neutron Christmas episode.
You know, despite all the writing hiccups in Holly Jolly Jimmy, I still love this Christmas Special! Also, Fun Fact, Santa Claus was played by Mel Brookes in this episode, the director of parody films such as Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles
Here's my list of "The Best Christmas Specials" that I watch every year: Recess "Yes Mikey, Santa Does Shave" Justice League "Comfort and Joy" Hey Arnold "Arnold's Christmas" Spongebob "Christmas Who?" Regular Show "The Christmas Special" Pinky and the Brain "A Pinky and the Brain Christmas" Harvey Beaks "It's Christmas, You Dorks!" These are, hands down, the best, funniest, and most poignant Christmas specials out of all the animated shows I've seen. I always watch "Arnold's Christmas" last.
In the end, Cindy and Libby end up getting coal. So, for those who didn't see the special, the clip of Libby opening her camcorder is accompanied by the line "I love opening presents early and acting surprised on Christmas day." She has the camcorder for the whole episode, and used it to film Jimmy at the North Pole. She uses the tape to shame Jimmy on the news. After Santa fixes Jimmy's mistakes, Cindy and Libby get lumps of coal. So, this implies that Santa stole the camcorder bought for Libby, presumably by her parents, and replaced it with coal. Jimmy also gets the core of his Dwarf Star, with a note from Santa saying "I had to let it cool for 5 years." So, trying to bust someone trying to ruin Christmas gets you on the Naughty List, and presents someone ELSE bought get revoked BY Santa, while almost ruining Christmas by almost murdering Santa gets you on the Nice List.
In Jimmy's defense, they recorded Jimmy's invention scrambling Santa's molecules and made it public just to spite and shame him. They did it for all the wrong reasons. Thus, they got a lump of coal.
I'll agree with you on that point, but that doesn't justify Jimmy being on the Nice List. Yes, he delivered the presents, but he was doing so out of spite, and he didn't feel remourse for breaking Santa. That also doesn't justify Santa stealing their gifts. If I remember correctly, the boxes we see them with ARE the same ones, implying that those gifts were taken. I MIGHT be wrong on that point, though.
@@BladeCrossEXE If only Santa had left Jimmy a note saying that the Dwarf Star needed time to cool off in the first place. Even if he didn't know how long it would take, it's better than just leaving him a box of nothing. Jimmy wanted to prove that science is better than magic. Furthermore, in the end, Jimmy actually did apologize to Santa for injuring him and he forgave him.

Honestly, if I had to choose between which is less awful: this or FOP’s second Christmas episode (merry wishmas), I'd choose this. Why? I really have no idea. Maybe because the Santa in this one doesn’t come off looking like an asshole (even if Jimmy kinda does) who crashes at the main character’s house for an entire year and is a general nuisance. Plus, even Tara Strong claimed that she hated how that episode turned out. Also, at least Jimmy Neutron got canceled with dignity (planet sheen notwithstanding), while FOP kept going until it got cancelled permanently.
What’s sad is Jimmy Neutron wasn’t even cancelled because of ratings it’s because the animation company went bankrupt after their film “The Ant Bully” bombed

You know, the funny thing is, this episode suffers from the exact same problem as Dexter Vs. Santa's Clause, where Jimmy sees Santa right in front of him and still doesn't believe in him. But you know, at least I can sort of buy that premise in Dexter's Lab. The show did get very surreal with its humor, so I can sort of buy Dexter mistaking an obvious real reindeer for his mom. This show, for as weird as it was, wasn't usually this dumb.
3:32 The reasoning behind this is that the show takes place in Texas, and you know it doesn't snow much there due to the climate. It's in the south and half of the state is desert.
This, the fairly odd parents, and SpongeBob Christmas and Halloween episodes were ones I watched every year as a kid 😎. Also, it might be a tad nitpicky to complain about the lack of snow in this episode. There are places like California and Arizona where snow is kind of rare around winter time so this warm looking Christmas could still be related for those of us living in those areas lol. Lastly, I'm surprised you didn't mention how santa is voiced by Mel Brooks here or how they show that santa does uses science here to do what he does as opposed to the using magic or whatever. I'm also surprised that you didn't show that Jimmy did get his dwarf star at the end lol.
I feel like you could have gotten a better Christmas special by taking the episode where Jimmy accidentally causes an ice age when he spreads sunscreen in the atmosphere. Change it from him being sick and tired of the summer heat and just wnted to make it snow for Christmas because it never snows in retroville .
Jimmy not believing in Santa because he didn't get one gift is the most realistic part of this. Pretty much every "Santa isn't real" motive in fiction is because the character asked for something and didn't get it.
I guess the teacher saying "Don't be such a science head and enjoy Christmas." could be a commentary on the lack of separation between Church and state in the US. Then again I'm from Australia, what do I know?
Jimmy ruining Christmas for Carl isn't nearly as egregious as he was in the series finale where he keeps insisting that people are inherently incapable of change because of "genetics"
Well to be fair, there was other episodes where Jimmy tries to disprove something that you’d think he’d believe in. Like the Bahama Quadrangle episode where he goes to disprove its disappearances only to find a scientist was hidden down there who was mutating people into plant monsters. Holly Jolly Jimmy is far cry from the top episodes of the series but I wouldn't call it an Animated Atrocity. Jimmy's just being a smartass about the logistics of Santa because he's only working with the myths and legends about Santa and assuming that's all there is to know about him. Jimmy would've been correct too if that really was all there was to know about Santa, but we find out in the end that Santa can do what he does because he's a genius like Jimmy which wasn't in any of the folklore Jimmy was working with. Santa is able to fix Jimmy's mistakes with his own Brain Blast, and proves that his genius even surpasses Jimmy's when it's revealed that the dwarf star core he asked for years before couldn't be delivered in the same year for a scientific reason Jimmy never stopped to realize. Jimmy has been bested by other geniuses in the show before and after this point, and now that Jimmy recognizes Santa as an intellect comparable to himself he finally accepts Santa for knowing things that even he hasn't mastered yet but is still ok with being humbled by that. Genius protagonist shows by default usually can't make good Christmas specials, and this show is no exception, but it's much better than the one from Dexter's Lab and I thought it was decent for the type of show Jimmy Neutron is.

This is the ONE instance in the show, where Jimmy is the most unlikable character and the one-time Cindy is in the right, every other episode Cindy Vortex is easily the worst character on the show and one of my least favorite Nick characters.
@@ntfoperative9432 Once Libby started becoming her own character away from just tormenting Jimmy with Cindy she became a better character, my favorite of the group actually. Her relationship with Sheen helped her character, because not only does she respect Sheen, but their dynamic is a lot better and less toxic than Cindy and Jimmy, where her love for Jimmy is questionable at best. I REFUSE to believe Cindy is the one for Jimmy when you take the episode Who Framed Jimmy into account or her Valentine Song. Then you have episodes like The Science Fair Affair and King of Mars which have Cindy at her worst. She constantly criticizes Jimmy for whatever he does/causes yet fails to take any accountability or is not held in the same way when SHE is in the wrong, instead she shifts blame to Jimmy, such as King of Mars. In fact, in some instances, such as instigating the teasing of Jimmy Cindy is just a downright asshole that goes beyond just "she does it out of jealousy or hidden feelings" Like her tone of voice in Jimmy Goes to College or her actions in Who Framed Jimmy. Hell, one episode revealed that she uses a Jimmy dummy to practice her anger issues out on while practicing karate. Or in the episode where they all got superpowers Cindy was a straight up bully toward Jimmy, even though he did nothing to warrant her hostility, which is made even worse when the government captures them, and they laugh at Jimmy when he says he wants to rescue them. Even in this episode, while they were in the right in wanting to get back at him for hurting Carl's feelings, Cindy was basically going about this by wanting to humiliate Jimmy worldwide! Jimmy has his flaws for sure, I mean the entire basis of the show is predicated on this fact, but Jimmy either fixes the mistake he made or is called out for it, Cindy NEVER receives the same amount of ire or self-awareness. Plus, unlike Cindy, whenever Libby was in the wrong, she owned up to her mistakes. Really Libby's worst moments just come from when she joins in on being an asshole toward Jimmy with Cindy, which can make her kind of an asshole. But otherwise, Jimmy has to give Libby a reason to do something back, which to me separates her from Cindy!
The worst part about this episode is that, despite being absolutely horrible to Carl and Santa AND almost ruining Christmas just because he didn't get what he wanted the previous year, Jimmy gets rewarded at the end of the episode by getting what he wanted the previous year. Meanwhile, Cindy and Libby get coal for a comparatively small offense (that's actually pretty out of character for them, especially Libby).
@@lpfan4491 I'm sure Jimmy's parents gave him gifts that year. Jimmy also never says he got nothing from Santa, he just says he didn't get what he wanted.
Finally someone says it. Even as a child I found the episode really strange and stupid, 🙇 especially if Jimmy really wanted to prove that Santa Claus doesn't exist, I would have generally just included religions and used Saint Nicholas as proof.

@@kidprime6863 That's true, but he doesn't deserve the star at all because Jimmy wasn't in the first place. He has brought humanity to the edge of despair and their lives countless times. And Santa Claus give him no piece of coal as punishment because otherwise Jimmy would only press diamonds out of it. 🤔 But as I said, why should Jimmy's action prove that Santa Claus doesn't exist? If a school child can deliver all the presents in the world in one night, then an adult with magical reindeers can do it. It would just prove that being Santa is a respectable job where you only have to work one day a year and the whole world loves you.
@@YEOsCanal If you actually watched the episode, Santa says he still has some molecules in the wrong places, so that confirms he is still mad about what Jimmy did to, accident or not. Plus, Jimmy DID actually apologize to him in the end and he forgave him as he did try to save Christmas in the end despite wanting to prove scientific superiority. I doubt Jimmy got on the naughty list because he wanted to destroy the world. Sheen exaggerated. And if it was true, I wouldn't be surprised if it was because it was something Cindy-related. (And the writers want to make Jimmy and Cindy a couple?) It was because Jimmy lost belief in Santa Claus and wanted to prove he wasn't real. And again, who's fault was that?!
Ngl, Hugh delivering pies in a replacement for Christmas presents was the only funny and heartwarming thing in this special. Hugh's the best character in this series. HE should've gotten a spinoff instead of Sheen.
I am putting my foot down on that title! While I admit the episode isn't great, this being Nickelodeon's WORST Christmas special is an over exaggeration. The real worst Nickelodeon Christmas special is Fairly Oddparents "Merry Wishmas!"
I know that the Rugrats has a Chanukah special. I haven't seen it in a long time, but I remember it being good. Unfortunately, I don't know about any other good Chanukah specials. Have a great Chanukah!
A much better idea would be to have Jimmy unable to pull it off and think Santa is some scientist that he wants to meet, not realizing that everyone else just wants to believe in magic
What if instead of Jimmy not believing in Santa, he’s angry that his science has never shown proof of Santa because of Christmas magic? It fits the concept of the show much better and doesn’t make him so hatable.

I got a great idea! Have the intelligent boy have a charm still have the smarts but has that kid in him! He believes in Santa! Like how someone who takes his job seriously still has that charm still in him!
Before watching the video: Wonder what would Mr. Enter think of the Dexter Christmas special after seeing this special 1:08 (After the comments corrected me) If I had a nickel for every time a christmas special about a genius kid trying to proof santa isn't real appeared in Animated Attrocities I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't alot but it's weird that it happened twice 2:12 I mean, she has already dated Thomas Edison (YES, this happened and very early on), was shrunk and fought (and won) against a caterpillar, and Jimmy's science usually seems to go beyond the imposisble. So she is basically a case of a character thinking like they should have, given the world they believe in, instead of suddenly acting like their world behaves in real world logic 10:43 this kinda feel like that adventure time episode "Wizards Only Fools", where Bonnie was suddenly full "magic isn't real", but it felt more like "she only starts claiming that because someone prefered a magic cure, over her scientific cure". With Jimmy claiming Santa isn't real, seemingly only out of a sense of "I am better than Santa claus! my science is better!"
4:00 You even mentioned this before, but in Australia there's no snow during Christmas. So this and Bluey are the only Christmas specials that don't have snow in the temperate regions.
2:06, Jimmy’s schtick is that everything has to be scientific. Robots and interplanetary travel explicitly have scientific explanations. (Though Carl cuts off Jimmy before he can tell Sheen what they are.)
I vaguely remember this Christmas special myself, so I guess it must be forgettable if over the years I just forgot about it or it stayed in the dark recesses of my brain until I find your review on it. Back then, I thought Jimmy's parents were just being a little airheaded with the whole pies thing, so it's interesting to hear your thoughts, even though I can agree it didn't save the episode. Also, I'm assuming you've played Banjo-Kazooie and maybe heard that they got into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Freezeezy Peak as a music track also made it in completely unchanged, not remixed or anything. Keep on trucking, Mr. Enter! Also also, it was a nice refresher to see you pulling off a bit of acting.

It occurs to me that the reason Retroville doesn't look Christmas-y and nobody's wearing winter clothes is because their limited CG budget wouldn't allow for such sweeping changes to the set. Sure, DNA had a few snowy landscapes in their backlot they could reuse for the North Pole, but they probably spent their entire modeling budget for this episode on Santa's workshop.

What's interesting is that it's completely in-character for Jimmy to disprove Santa's existence. Jimmy has been shown to be a buzz kill before. There's one episode where he and his friends stake out an amusement park to disprove the existence of a phantom. Cindy even directly calls him out for ruining everyone's fun.
So, I can buy Jimmy doing what he does in this episode. It's just that he is constantly trying to prove his superiority, and he doesn't get his comeuppance in a satisfying way like in the phantom episode.
Or how about the episode where he goes out of his way to disprove a cryptic lake monster, only to later find out that it was Carl’s old pet turtle that got mutated into a Kaiju by chemicals his dad tossed in the lake for no reason.
Also the episode where he goes to disprove the Bahama Quadrangle disappearances and finds a mad scientist hiding down there who was mutating people into plant monsters.
Yeah. She even pointed out that everyone already *knew* it was a myth. They were just playing along with the story, trying to spook eachother.
I think the problem isn't that Jimmy tries to disprove Santa's existence, it's probably the execution that's the problem. Like for another example of this kind of story, that Dexter episode (YES I know it was an April Fools day episode, but that doesn't automatically make it good because it's execution wasn't great). Granted they probably didn't wanted us to root for Dexter, but the way the episode was structured and how they just wanted it to be the complete opposite message of Christmas' true meaning, it still comes off more as jarring. Granted Jimmy here didn't do the same thing as Dexter, but they really could've tried to teach him better without making him come off as a bit arrogant with his quest in debunking Santa's existence. Not only that, other characters like Cindy and Livy trying to expose Jimmy 'ruining' Christmas and the Fat Elf really didn't jive with me.
Cindy actually got done dirty in this episode. She actually was upset with Jimmy for almost ruining Christmas for Carl and wanted to get back at him for doing that, but gets treated with a lump of coal for her efforts.
But don't worry Jimmy you're not the only animated boy genius with a not-so-great Christmas episode

To be fair, they did record Jimmy's blunder and made it public just to spite him for hurting Carl's feelings even though Jimmy didn't mean to. Santa knew they did it for all the wrong reasons and they got a lump of coal for that. Plus it was all Libby's idea. She even said "Do me a favor: Next time I say we should humiliate somebody, DON'T LISTEN!"

Thank you for describing how Jimmy's "logic" in delivering presents around the world to prove there is no Santa Clause makes no F***ing sense. Seriously, that has always perplexed me even as a kid when I first saw this episode.
Yeah, the idea of "no way a person exists specifically for this job when I could do it, lol" is really silly. It feels less like an actual stream of logic and more like a weird flex.
I think the reason is that delivering presents is Santa's special thing, and if anyone can do it, then any one could be Santa.

As a Texan I will have to say that weather here is VERY bipolar. Some years, the start of winter is determined in hindsight. The temperature can rapidly fluctuate through out the day and the week. This is further compounded by the fact that different areas of Texas experience different weather and temperatures. North Texas gets more hail and snow compared to south Texas. East Texas is more humid so temperature extremes are the norm, while west Texas is comparatively drier.
Now I'm shocked the show took place in Texas at all. But the lack of a traditional white Christmas setting for a green Christmas one. In my personal experience very accurate, but I acknowledge that its a definite break from the norm.
I had family in southeast Houston, so I was always amused when we went down after Christmas and saw perfectly healthy _palm trees_ -- my home is 600 miles further north and 1500' higher in elevation, so winter is a crapshoot -- we've had a couple of White Christmases in my lifetime but more often it's ~50ºF/10ºC with plants/grass wintering
You know in February 2021, Texas got the very subzero experiences and even far south Texas couldn’t get out of the 20s temperature when the average was in the 60s-70s range in that month!

Well, yes, but it's EXTREMELY rare for the desert that is Texas to see snow.
I've traveled from home in the Mid-Atlantic to Florida during the Christmas season and my sister lives in California, you'd be hard pressed to tell it was December in both places without the holiday decorations. In fact, holiday decorations were how Tim Burton was able to tell the seasons were changing because he lived in Burbank his whole life, and stores changing from Halloween to Christmas decorations were what inspired him to create "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
Depends on where you are in Texas. Amarillo I know for sure gets a good amount of snow typically.
Also most places I've lived in not counting Texas - St. Louis and southern Maryland don't typically get a drop of snow until after Christmas and even then it's occasional and doesn't stay around for long. Gets cold as hell in eastern Missouri though. Living in DFW though I've gone through single digits, but I can't exactly say the same for southern Maryland (teens certainly but single digits I have no idea; I'm near the Chesapeake bay so winters stay slightly warmer).
Retroville is set in the Houston or Austin area if I recall...

In the end, Cindy and Libby end up getting coal.
So, for those who didn't see the special, the clip of Libby opening her camcorder is accompanied by the line
"I love opening presents early and acting surprised on Christmas day."
She has the camcorder for the whole episode, and used it to film Jimmy at the North Pole. She uses the tape to shame Jimmy on the news. After Santa fixes Jimmy's mistakes, Cindy and Libby get lumps of coal. So, this implies that Santa stole the camcorder bought for Libby, presumably by her parents, and replaced it with coal.
Jimmy also gets the core of his Dwarf Star, with a note from Santa saying "I had to let it cool for 5 years."
So, trying to bust someone trying to ruin Christmas gets you on the Naughty List, and presents someone ELSE bought get revoked BY Santa, while almost ruining Christmas by almost murdering Santa gets you on the Nice List.
In Jimmy's defense, they recorded Jimmy's invention scrambling Santa's molecules and made it public just to spite and shame him. They did it for all the wrong reasons. Thus, they got a lump of coal.
I'll agree with you on that point, but that doesn't justify Jimmy being on the Nice List. Yes, he delivered the presents, but he was doing so out of spite, and he didn't feel remourse for breaking Santa.
That also doesn't justify Santa stealing their gifts. If I remember correctly, the boxes we see them with ARE the same ones, implying that those gifts were taken. I MIGHT be wrong on that point, though.
@@BladeCrossEXE If only Santa had left Jimmy a note saying that the Dwarf Star needed time to cool off in the first place. Even if he didn't know how long it would take, it's better than just leaving him a box of nothing.
Jimmy wanted to prove that science is better than magic.
Furthermore, in the end, Jimmy actually did apologize to Santa for injuring him and he forgave him.

Honestly, if I had to choose between which is less awful: this or FOP’s second Christmas episode (merry wishmas), I'd choose this.
Why? I really have no idea. Maybe because the Santa in this one doesn’t come off looking like an asshole (even if Jimmy kinda does) who crashes at the main character’s house for an entire year and is a general nuisance. Plus, even Tara Strong claimed that she hated how that episode turned out.
Also, at least Jimmy Neutron got canceled with dignity (planet sheen notwithstanding), while FOP kept going until it got cancelled permanently.

You know, the funny thing is, this episode suffers from the exact same problem as Dexter Vs. Santa's Clause, where Jimmy sees Santa right in front of him and still doesn't believe in him. But you know, at least I can sort of buy that premise in Dexter's Lab. The show did get very surreal with its humor, so I can sort of buy Dexter mistaking an obvious real reindeer for his mom. This show, for as weird as it was, wasn't usually this dumb.

This, the fairly odd parents, and SpongeBob Christmas and Halloween episodes were ones I watched every year as a kid 😎.
Also, it might be a tad nitpicky to complain about the lack of snow in this episode. There are places like California and Arizona where snow is kind of rare around winter time so this warm looking Christmas could still be related for those of us living in those areas lol.
Lastly, I'm surprised you didn't mention how santa is voiced by Mel Brooks here or how they show that santa does uses science here to do what he does as opposed to the using magic or whatever. I'm also surprised that you didn't show that Jimmy did get his dwarf star at the end lol.
I feel like you could have gotten a better Christmas special by taking the episode where Jimmy accidentally causes an ice age when he spreads sunscreen in the atmosphere. Change it from him being sick and tired of the summer heat and just wnted to make it snow for Christmas because it never snows in retroville .
Jimmy not believing in Santa because he didn't get one gift is the most realistic part of this. Pretty much every "Santa isn't real" motive in fiction is because the character asked for something and didn't get it.
I guess the teacher saying "Don't be such a science head and enjoy Christmas." could be a commentary on the lack of separation between Church and state in the US. Then again I'm from Australia, what do I know?
Jimmy ruining Christmas for Carl isn't nearly as egregious as he was in the series finale where he keeps insisting that people are inherently incapable of change because of "genetics"

Well to be fair, there was other episodes where Jimmy tries to disprove something that you’d think he’d believe in.
Like the Bahama Quadrangle episode where he goes to disprove its disappearances only to find a scientist was hidden down there who was mutating people into plant monsters.
Or the episode where he goes to disprove a phantom with a salami leg.
Or the episode where he tries to disprove a cryptic lake monster only to find it was Carl’s old pet turtle who got mutated into a Kaiju by chemicals his dad dumped in the lake for no reason.
So with those episodes, I don’t think it would be too big of a stretch for him to try and disprove Santa and get proven wrong, like he did the Bahama Quadrangle, the Phantom, and the Lake Monster.
Holly Jolly Jimmy is far cry from the top episodes of the series but I wouldn't call it an Animated Atrocity. Jimmy's just being a smartass about the logistics of Santa because he's only working with the myths and legends about Santa and assuming that's all there is to know about him. Jimmy would've been correct too if that really was all there was to know about Santa, but we find out in the end that Santa can do what he does because he's a genius like Jimmy which wasn't in any of the folklore Jimmy was working with. Santa is able to fix Jimmy's mistakes with his own Brain Blast, and proves that his genius even surpasses Jimmy's when it's revealed that the dwarf star core he asked for years before couldn't be delivered in the same year for a scientific reason Jimmy never stopped to realize. Jimmy has been bested by other geniuses in the show before and after this point, and now that Jimmy recognizes Santa as an intellect comparable to himself he finally accepts Santa for knowing things that even he hasn't mastered yet but is still ok with being humbled by that. Genius protagonist shows by default usually can't make good Christmas specials, and this show is no exception, but it's much better than the one from Dexter's Lab and I thought it was decent for the type of show Jimmy Neutron is.

This is the ONE instance in the show, where Jimmy is the most unlikable character and the one-time Cindy is in the right, every other episode Cindy Vortex is easily the worst character on the show and one of my least favorite Nick characters.

Her relationship with Sheen helped her character, because not only does she respect Sheen, but their dynamic is a lot better and less toxic than Cindy and Jimmy, where her love for Jimmy is questionable at best. I REFUSE to believe Cindy is the one for Jimmy when you take the episode Who Framed Jimmy into account or her Valentine Song. Then you have episodes like The Science Fair Affair and King of Mars which have Cindy at her worst. She constantly criticizes Jimmy for whatever he does/causes yet fails to take any accountability or is not held in the same way when SHE is in the wrong, instead she shifts blame to Jimmy, such as King of Mars. In fact, in some instances, such as instigating the teasing of Jimmy Cindy is just a downright asshole that goes beyond just "she does it out of jealousy or hidden feelings" Like her tone of voice in Jimmy Goes to College or her actions in Who Framed Jimmy. Hell, one episode revealed that she uses a Jimmy dummy to practice her anger issues out on while practicing karate. Or in the episode where they all got superpowers Cindy was a straight up bully toward Jimmy, even though he did nothing to warrant her hostility, which is made even worse when the government captures them, and they laugh at Jimmy when he says he wants to rescue them. Even in this episode, while they were in the right in wanting to get back at him for hurting Carl's feelings, Cindy was basically going about this by wanting to humiliate Jimmy worldwide!
Jimmy has his flaws for sure, I mean the entire basis of the show is predicated on this fact, but Jimmy either fixes the mistake he made or is called out for it, Cindy NEVER receives the same amount of ire or self-awareness. Plus, unlike Cindy, whenever Libby was in the wrong, she owned up to her mistakes. Really Libby's worst moments just come from when she joins in on being an asshole toward Jimmy with Cindy, which can make her kind of an asshole. But otherwise, Jimmy has to give Libby a reason to do something back, which to me separates her from Cindy!

The worst part about this episode is that, despite being absolutely horrible to Carl and Santa AND almost ruining Christmas just because he didn't get what he wanted the previous year, Jimmy gets rewarded at the end of the episode by getting what he wanted the previous year. Meanwhile, Cindy and Libby get coal for a comparatively small offense (that's actually pretty out of character for them, especially Libby).
Tbf, since it was a present for a previous year, that technically means Jimmy got nothing for that year.

Jimmy's arrogance could be really annoying sometimes and this episode is a prime example of that.

especially if Jimmy really wanted to prove that Santa Claus doesn't exist, I would have generally just included religions and used Saint Nicholas as proof.

All because he didn't get the Dwarf Star he wanted. In Jimmy's defense, Santa should have left a note saying that it needs to cool down even if he didn't know how long it would take.

That's true, but he doesn't deserve the star at all because Jimmy wasn't in the first place.
He has brought humanity to the edge of despair and their lives countless times.
And Santa Claus give him no piece of coal as punishment because otherwise Jimmy would only press diamonds out of it. 🤔
But as I said, why should Jimmy's action prove that Santa Claus doesn't exist? If a school child can deliver all the presents in the world in one night, then an adult with magical reindeers can do it.
It would just prove that being Santa is a respectable job where you only have to work one day a year and the whole world loves you.
@@YEOsCanal If you actually watched the episode, Santa says he still has some molecules in the wrong places, so that confirms he is still mad about what Jimmy did to, accident or not. Plus, Jimmy DID actually apologize to him in the end and he forgave him as he did try to save Christmas in the end despite wanting to prove scientific superiority.
I doubt Jimmy got on the naughty list because he wanted to destroy the world. Sheen exaggerated. And if it was true, I wouldn't be surprised if it was because it was something Cindy-related. (And the writers want to make Jimmy and Cindy a couple?) It was because Jimmy lost belief in Santa Claus and wanted to prove he wasn't real. And again, who's fault was that?!

Ngl, Hugh delivering pies in a replacement for Christmas presents was the only funny and heartwarming thing in this special.
Hugh's the best character in this series. HE should've gotten a spinoff instead of Sheen.
I am putting my foot down on that title! While I admit the episode isn't great, this being Nickelodeon's WORST Christmas special is an over exaggeration.

What if instead of Jimmy not believing in Santa, he’s angry that his science has never shown proof of Santa because of Christmas magic? It fits the concept of the show much better and doesn’t make him so hatable.

2:12 I mean, she has already dated Thomas Edison (YES, this happened and very early on), was shrunk and fought (and won) against a caterpillar, and Jimmy's science usually seems to go beyond the imposisble. So she is basically a case of a character thinking like they should have, given the world they believe in, instead of suddenly acting like their world behaves in real world logic

I think I’m starting to notice a pattern, Dexter vs Santa’s Claws & Holly Jolly Jimmy.
I vaguely remember this Christmas special myself, so I guess it must be forgettable if over the years I just forgot about it or it stayed in the dark recesses of my brain until I find your review on it. Back then, I thought Jimmy's parents were just being a little airheaded with the whole pies thing, so it's interesting to hear your thoughts, even though I can agree it didn't save the episode.
Also, I'm assuming you've played Banjo-Kazooie and maybe heard that they got into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Freezeezy Peak as a music track also made it in completely unchanged, not remixed or anything.
