- From the 14th Century Tuscan manuscript in the British Library Add MS 29987, here is the medieval istanpitta "Belicha" (probably means battle or conflict but the meanings of the titles of the istanpitta are often a mystery). Another long work with complex repetitive structure, this istanpitta has five sections or puncta that are repeated with an open (aperto) and then a closed (chiuso) ending. Section Quinta jumps back midway back into Quarta so it's quite a labyrinthine task to follow the manuscript.
Performed by Daniel Shoskes on a gut strung 5 course medieval lute built by Travis Carey

You've truly earned my admiration-bravo!
Brilliant. Thank you for doing this!
Well played! What an interesting tune, really transports you back in time.
What is this kind of medieval tablature called? I am looking at it in the background and I have no idea how to read which frets are to be played
Glad you enjoyed it. The manuscript is not tablature, it's mensural notation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mensural_notation I can't sight read it but make my own modern notation version
@@kidneykutter Oh, so it is closer to modern staff notation! I will read through that, thank you
