I am a new hot tub owner and know NOTHING! Your videos are super helpful. I'm already feeling more confident and knowledgeable just from watching your videos. Thank you soooo much.
This is an excellent video. It sounds like a lot of steps but it’s not that bad. Takes about 2 hrs (minus the line flush). I did use a sump pump and it was amazing how quickly my 250-gal hot tub drained.
I just emptied and cleaned mine. I left about 2 cups of tub of bleach/water solution in a dish and covered the tub. Hopefully this keeps mold and insects away while it's empty.
Mixing bleach with anything is usually bad, but there is non-chlorine bleach products. High concentrated chlorine products like toilet bowl cleaners will be happy to send you to the hospital.
We have a scum line that is not visable but we can can feel it with our fingertips. When you suggest cleaning the scum line with white vinegar, are you suggesting that you would allow the white vinegar to mix with the hot tub water? Doesn't seem it should be introduced into such a delicately balanced environment.
Any tips for lowering alkalinity and PH? PH down isn’t working. Have had it for a week and have gone through almost an entire bottle of PH down and it hasn’t budged.
Thoughts on slimy hot tub. Little over 1 month or use. Alkalinity, PH and Bromine are in check. Do I need to drain and refill? I am thinking it is biofilm.
I am a commercial CPO. this is a very good example of regular maintenance on a residential level. this is an extremely thorough process, but definitely demonstrates an effective way to keep your hot tub absolutely spotless. However, it might be a tad Overkill. Simply draining the water on a regular basis should work Wonders on its own.
My custom built spas don’t need the water changed but once a year. Even then it’s not aways necessary as I have a special ozone jet and high output ozonator and unless someone unsavory uses the spa and turns it funky the ozone keeps it very clean.
Thanks for info, if on vacations what are tips to look for before go in post covid world or per covid hotel pool or hotel hot tub seen web site cleaning hot tub. I seen little info. test PH level, Test Total Alkalinity, then your calcium harness
My hot tub pipe cleaning Flush product says to run the tub on high for one hour. I don't really want to do that...can I put it in, run for 15 minutes on high and then leave it overnight to circulate instead? Just seems like a waste running on high for an hour when I can't be in it.
My hot tub kept getting air in the second pump so half the jets were only working periodically but the other half were running regularly. When I turn the jets on high on the half that weren't regularly ran I'm getting scum bubbles and a brown ring that is much more prominent on that side. Is there a chemical imbalance I could fix or do I just need to purge drain and start over?
I need some advice. I have an above ground pool. I moved into my house and it was in bad shape when I moved here. I followed all of the directions to get it clean. Nothing was working. I ended up draining it and washed the liner and filled it back up following the directions again. It was finally clean. I kept up with maintenance. I was vacuuming 2x a week. And I still started getting algae on the pool wall/floor. So I added chemicals to kill it and vacuumed and scrubbed. Nothing was stopping it. It slowly turned green despite me following exact directions to stop the growth, kill the algae and vacuumed. All the leaves started falling and I couldn’t keep the leaves out fast enough. We have a lot of trees with large leaves in the yard above the pool. It was obvious I needed to start over AGAIN. I drained the water, cleaned out the leaves, sprayed it down and emptied again. Now what? Do I need a new liner? If not what do I clean it with? I can’t keep going through this process. I understand pools ARE hard work but I feel like this is beyond typical pool upkeep. Please help me!
I am a commercial CPO. This is actually a very common occurrence, where chlorine alone will not kill algae. There are many things ranging from phosphates to organic material that can cause algae blooms. You may want to try something called algaecide, and keeping your pH levels slightly acidic. Be sure to remove all organic material from your pool every week, and make sure to brush the sides and bottom of your liner, and regularly backwash your filter. Make sure that when you shock the pool, you premix your shock with water in a bucket, this helps with even distribution and prevents holes from forming in your liner. You also may want to try moving your pool to a more shady spot, or at least somewhere where it doesn't get as much sunlight during the day. I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions, feel free to contact me at (252)-722-6370

Further clarification on what you mean by "let your chemicals dissipate before draining tub into yard" would help a lot.
Where do you purchase all your spa materials?
When do you put the filters back in the hot tub?

Should I take the filter out before using the pipe cleaner?
yes, remove filter and run pipe cleaner for 24 hours minimum and then flush water ,
clean filter separate then put filter back in and add fresh water
Most brands would instruct you to do this on their directions.

Why don’t you just follow the directions the mfr suggests?? Not that difficult. If you don’t want to run it for an hour don’t buy the product.
How much trouble am I in if I let my hot tub sit, fully drained, for the past 3 months without using the pipe cleaner before draining it?
Did you figure it out? Lolll
Yeah. What do you do if you forget to do the pipe cleaning before draining?
Just seems you should fill the hot tub with water, add the pipe clearner, allow it to circulate overnight, drain and clean the hot tub and refill.
great video

@@samsquid9138 thank you so much for your advice! I appreciate it so much! 😊
"When the tub gets out of control just use some of this Spa Down to calm it down."
Wow so I need 3 full days to do this? I guess I can't use my hot tub tonight......
If you're needing to do a full drain and clean, then yes. It takes time. But just schedule it every 3-4 months so you know when you can/can't use it!
Yeah god forbid you had to take a day off soaking to maintain your hot tub lol
Understood! Don't get a hot tub!
For the use you get out of it, it’s a TON of work and very expensive to run. I bought a house with it already here otherwise I’d say don’t do it!! 🤣
Bro said beginners guide then listed 20 different things nobody has in their house
Mate it's right ain't it. I turned it off after that list
too much work i rather not own one
Dude. People just want to know what chemicals to dump in.
