When Harley first came out with the Boom Audio Polaris then CEO said that Indians would have a touch screen too. Well they kept going with it, The 2021 Harleys are Switching to Bosch ECMs so I expect different ride modes shortly
People are going to have to do more than be glad that Indian is making Harley more competitive; they're going to need to actually go out and _buy_ Indian motorcycles.
I think the Standard Chief (14,500) compares most closely to the Street Bob (15,000) The Chief Darkhorse (17,000) would be a competitor to the Lowrider S(18,000) I have rode the Lowrider S twice during demo events and love that bike, but I am glad I have waited because the Chief Dark Horse gives you more for $1000 less money.

Even though pound for pound both companies' bikes are roughly similar overall value, the Chiefs, in particular the Dark Horses, are too sexy and win in my book.
That 114 was a smart move for Harley on the Street Bob, but Harley needs to start thinking outside the box more than they did this year, but it's all good, good comparison Bret 🤜🏼💥🤛🏼
Great video! I'm always more partial to old school type stuff but man I got to be honest the idea of that simple looking speedo on the Indian with nav etc is amazing.
Excellent video with plenty of data, love the way you laid it out, the Chevelle in the background doesn't hurt! I test rode a Scout Bobber yesterday and just a bit too small (seat and rear shocks way too stiff), thinking the Chief might do the trick. My current bike is a Vulcan VN2000 a total beast but at 800 lbs dry its a bit of a load ( I just turned 63) , thinking its time to shed some weight!
Tough call really. Both have established motors. Both have good reputations. I don’t think there is a clear wrong answer here! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
The Indian has a drop forged one piece crank, not pressed like Harley, has machined aluminum intake not like Harleys plastic. Indian has gear drive oil pump not like Harley chain drive. One oil used for the oil changes for the Indian not like all the different oils need for Harley. The Indians don't have an oil sumpping problem so oil and carbon build up on top of the pistons after a short few thousand miles like some Harleys have wont be an issue. Those are just a few things I have researched and found out. I wanted a Harley too but why not get something that is better built, however the Harleys do look a little better and would have a better resale. But the Indian Chief Bobber does look pretty darn good!
I think Harley in a tough spot because whenever they try to do something innovative traditionalist always bash them for doing so. Which is I think the core of its consumers. I plan on getting a bike in the next few months either Harley or Indian. I'm on the fence but I'm leaning toward Indian. Just for the technological updates.
I think Harley sometimes tries too hard on their innovations when simplistic things such as tech built into their current bikes would suffice. Can’t go wrong with either brand, he’ll can’t go wrong as long as it has two wheels. Thanks for the watch.
Don't know when these become available but I heard 6 months. They are 2022 models. Also the info screen which doesn't interest me only comes on the more expensive Dark Horse models from what I've heard. I rarely use my Street Bob's little basic screen except to occasionally check what gear up in.

I think Indian Motorcycle has positioned itself well in relation to Harley-Davidson in this part of the market, and although I personally would have chosen Indian in all comparisons, I think this boils down to a question of personal preference. I think there are people out there who think the exact opposite. And you know what? That's both understandable and okay. Great bikes all together. However, the Indian Chief Dark horse would be my choice if I could choose one of the six.

Hey Tom thanks for watching. Looks like Indian is traveling with them now as Brandon Bicaso (i might have butchered that spelling) got the chance to ride the 116 Chief Dark Horse and the 111 Super Chief.

I was thinking about finding a used Fat Bob (2018), which is a hit for. I love the looks, with different pipes, bags and a fairing. Now, the Indian Chief Dark Horse is a very interesting option, I like the looks. I'm not crazy about those bags. great video.
Yea their bags arent great on the Indian, but a Fat Bob technically doesnt come with any. What brand of aftermarket you thinking for those? I think paint matched would also be the way to go!
Excellent vid man. Great break down and fair comparison. 👍 I'm considering adding a base Chief to park beside my Scout 60. None if the digital hoopla widget but still a 111 thunderstroke is bigger than my current 61ci. Wife wants to start riding. She'll get the Scout and I'll ride Chief.😁👍
That sounds like a plan! The scout 60 would be a great starter bike for her. Low to the ground and light weight. And then you get more power!!!!! I got another video that focuses on the 111s as well. Thanks for watching.
Great comparison and love the detail. They are very comparable bikes. I don’t weight too much on technology because is sounds nice but how well does it actually work. I’d like to see GPS that actually works and your not paying to update maps. Great video brother 👊
Thanks for the video. I personaly would compare more the Indian bobber with the HD Slim, instead of the Fat Bob. In the first vs you didn''t mentioned that the Street Bob comes with the duo option for the price, the Indian not, which rise the price of the Indian a little bit more.
Excellent comparison video. I think the Super Chief will be a big seller for people who want to do high speed light touring. My favorite among the choices would be the Fat Bob though. Indian needs to grow their dealer network and Harley needs to fix their sales culture...(telling me i need to "upgrade" my bike every time I walk into for an oil filter doesn't win them any points.)
It's ironic that you mention dealer support. HD is in the process of shutting down dealers. We lost one in my town already. Whereas Polaris at least here is selling and servicing Indians in all Polaris dealers in the city as of 2020. In short, 2 years ago we had 2 HD dealers and one Indian. As of this year, we now have 3 Indian dealers and 1 HD. So I'm in the opposite position as I have way better dealer support from Indian in my town than I would with a Harley.
First of all: Congrats to the vid, man. I Liked it :) About the bikes: I think it's not about a fancy gauge alone. It's even about the look and the beauty of the bikes. This is truely a very personal thing, but in my eyes the Indians look far better than the softtails.
Thanks for that! Thats what is great about motorcycles is everyones opinion can vary bike to bike. I'm still torn but I'm a dyna guy and this is what the new Indians remind me of. Thanks for the watch!
Nice job! I have owned both brands and like them both but am currently on my second Indian and they are great bikes. I think it is great that HD has some real competition to push them because I feel they got lazy for 20 years. I don’t think you would have seen the frame change on softail line or the 114 if Indian wasn’t taking share away with 111 and mono shock frame. So two strong American companies better than one! Ride what you like and don’t hate on another’s choice! That’s what got me off my third HD was that crowd turns on it’s own when I got one of the first Vrods traded a softail for it and HD dude’s would completely ignore me vs when I was on the softail.
Thanks Joe. I agree, buy what you want and appreciate other riders on two wheels. I currently ride Harley, but I'm not opposed to Indian, Ducati, Kawasaki etc. If its what brings you joy, pursue it! VROD might be in my future as a second bike, crossing my fingers on that one.
I do not put any weight or benefit to ride modes. I own a 2019 Roadmaster. I played around with them at first, but it has been in standard for all but the first month of ownership. Rain, sun, long trip, short trip. The only thing I see is how quickly the throttle reacts. For me, ride modes mean zilch. I am torn between the Heritage and The Super Chief Limited.
My only mini gripe is I would have used the low rider S instead of the fat bob. It’s the best selling softail currently. Other than that, well thought out and I like to see the competition in this segment to drive innovation
The Super Chief Limited is an absolutely beautiful looking bike. I just wish they would sort out the tubed tyres. It's ridiculous to have tubed tyres on such a bike. They have virtually no dealer network near me, but I'd still buy one tomorrow if they fitted tubed tyres. Indian please take note. It's just a deal breaker on even a light touring bike.
I plan to make one comparing the 111 Chiefs to the 107 Softails. Seeing how I already compared the SCL to the Heritage, was thinking of doing the base Super Chief to the Sport Glide. Cheers!
The prices of Indians and Harleys are close. The difference is Indian gives you more with their price. 2021 and Harley still doesn’t have an electric wind screen? Really? And the technology on the Chief with the speedometer is another example of ingenuity that Harley refuses to take the next step in.
Loving the looks and the tech...i never liked the softail frame so this looks way better..all too new and not cheap...having said that after 2 FLHs shovelhead ..i like it even being new models....
Nice video; good production, riding shots, etc. I felt your choice of comparison bikes was way off re: the Street Bob and Fat Bob. Clearly, the Slim is the aesthetic equivalent here and is priced similarly. How each rated their horsepower (flywheel or rear wheel) would've been nice as well as mentioning Harley's tech, i.e., four valves, two plugs, oil cooling. I'll be back to your channel.
Hey Shawn, just now getting to some comments here. I appreciate the feedback, but the reason I saved the Slim for my Base Chief video that I did a few days later, was because it only boasts the 107 power plant. I was trying to do a 114 vs 116 comparison on these bikes. I'll def take the feedback for future videos! Hope to see you around the channel brother.
I say go ride the style that you want and make your decision, I’m not a gadget guy and have and do own both. The ride mode will take you to new places, HD isn’t even close in my opinion. The 116 will flat get down the road and so far been bulletproof.
I thought that originally but I was leaning more towards the base Indian bobber with a 111 to a 107 comparison. Thanks for watching Charles I appreciate the feedback!!
Great video man - subscribed! Interesting how Indian are no longer 0lac7ng their products as the 'value option' - they are being bold and pushing the new Chief as a premium option. I will of course have a test ride, but I don't see myself trading out my '17 Scout for one of these any more than I could change to a Fat Bob - the Scout is over 100lbs lighter, has way more power where it counts and a wide spread of torque that goes far higher up the rev range. But there is a market for these 'bigger', heavier bikes; some people perceive the Scout as a 'small bike' even though the wheelbase & wheels are the same as the new Chief, so I don't think Indian will be eating their own lunch. Looking forward to your next videos 😎
Given the stats and the weight, your scout will still be able to run away from these. I'll have to ride them all as well. Thanks for the sub, I appreciate that!
You should have compared the base chief to the street bob. The base chief is MSRP of 14,500. You only included the top of the line most expensive version of each Indian.
Nice job! The competition between the 2 manufactures only benfits the consumers. A bit to pricey for 2 wheels IMO. This is the first I've seen the super chief, I really like the looks, I'm a fan of the smaller front fenders. Great info, I hope you received my email and thanks again.
I'm between the Indian Chief DH or a Street Bob 114. Can't decide. H-D is cheaper here but dealer is further away. The new Chiefs not been out long so maybe there is issues with them we don't know yet? A lot of electronics as well. I like simple. Thing is with the Street Bob 114, the colours are awful I'd like a plain simple black. Styling therefor goes to Indian. If the Indian is solid I'm definitely going for a Chief.
I think you can’t go wrong either way. The street Bob while it does have power does lack some bells and whistles, bells and whistles that could theoretically break down on you. I have not heard any poor quality reports about the new Chief though either.
@@ChopperFett Yeah I think I'm going to have to think awhile. The SB 114 is tempting though because of its price and it comes with passenger pegs and saddle from factory which is a big plus. 😀 comes down to who gives me the best deal as well I guess
There's a post on reddit that broke down the Softails vs the Chief 2.0 down to the minute detail model for model. Long story short, Softail beats the Chief tit for tat every single category. Dont forget about that oil cooling assist on the Softails which the chiefs do not have and they dont even let you have the oil cooling addon like the previous chiefs did. big swing and miss indian. After reading out all the comparisons, prices and including the cost of parts from first party, it's clear that harley is the victor here in these comparisons. I think it was a huge mistake for indian to go with a TS powered bike with dual shocks instead of a Powerplus with a monoshock rear. With a Powerplus and monoshock, Indian would have slam dunked Harley for good. Big mistake indian. Kudos to harley making waves and getting out infront of the competition before competition forced their hand. I'm looking for a full sized cruiser to replace my electric daily rider, and Harley's got my attention, Indian doesnt.
Very informative comment so first off thank you for that. I feel Indian copied the Harley Dyna instead of moving forward in the tech sector. Each brand does offer some unique traits but ultimately Harley will probably win out in sales. I want to test a Chief though just for giggles.
Good video I have a 2018harley Davidson heritage the bags are nice and alot bigger than the 2022 indian chief bobber and there not worth a thousand dollars. I'm looking at the new indian chief and trading in my heritage, I really like the looks and more easier maintenance friendlier than my harley my only 2 complaints is the battery is a bitch to get in or out and the kickstand won't stand in gravel or my yard
Especially if you go Super Chief Limited, I dont see much of a point for the touring models (Im not a blast my radio for the world to hear it type guy hahaha) Thanks for watching man!
These brands and their prices. How do they justify it when the Japanese offer more for less. Ok, indians are a work of art, and Harley has the History and their sound is iconic , but I can't justify paying double for half.
@@ChopperFett And what makes Indian a premium brand? They have been owned by Polaris for a decade and only relevant the last 3 to 4 years. The Indian name has been passed around more than the preacher's daughter on a Saturday night :-)
Just compare two bikes, don’t bounce around in one episode. Good information to have for new buyers, but it would’ve been beneficial to compare/contrast two bikes thoroughly
LOL! Indian verses Harley. I do not think Indian is competing with Harley. There is not much comparison other than the V-twin look. Engines 114 vs 116? No comparison as far performance. The 116 is a better engine hands down. Indian makes a better motorcycle as far as handling and performance . I have to say these new Indians are not that new as they are styled after the Victory Judge.
Lol as I read your comment I thought it was gonna be swung the other way. I’m excited to see more Indian supporters on here. I’m not opposed one bit to owning an Indian!
What exactly makes the Thunderstroke a better performance motor than the M8? I’ve never heard this before and it’s hard to find many dyno pulls on them with or without a stage kit.
Everything with Harley Davidson cost extra. Fuck them and their high prices. There are better bikes out there cheaper then buying a Harley Davidson. The generation of people in this day and age do not care about the "Harley Davidson" cool status they relied on from the past generations. We want a great bike for a great price. Harley better wake up and offer all the good stuff you can get on other bikes and stop expecting people to pay extra for it. No one cares about Harley Davidson any more. The old guys that carried them through the years are old and dying off. The new generation of people don't care about the biker life style Harley made money from in the past. The guys with tattoos and sun drenched skin and jean jackets with the sleeves cut off and looking like they haven't took a bath in weeks are over. These days people want the bells and whistles and should not have to pay extra.
I am glad Indian is stepping it up. It will make Harley get more creative.

Thanks for the video. I personaly would compare more the Indian bobber with the HD Slim, instead of the Fat Bob. In the first vs you didn''t mentioned that the Street Bob comes with the duo option for the price, the Indian not, which rise the price of the Indian a little bit more.
In the other comparison i did bobber to slim as the slim has a 107 in it. Appreciate the feedback man.
A big thumbs up to you that was a great comparison take care catch you later brother
Thanks for the awesome support MrG. You are one of a kind!
That touch screen speedo is kinda cool...good comparision on the bikes...hopefully HD will take some cues from Indian.
Hopefully. I left out the part these bikes are pretty much all the same but different trims, so their production costs are greatly reduced.
I don't imagine it does. I'll be curious how much the Super Chief takes away from the Heritage for sure. The Fat Bob is a mighty fine bike.
I sat on a Indian bobber dark horse. I was totally blown away. Very well balanced and looks real beefy.
@@ChopperFett Vrod are great bikes! Have fun if you get one they rip!
Thanks for watching. Tough call on those two. I want to ride the SCL and see if it rides as smooth as the Heritage
Do these Harley line of bikes come with cruise control?
I think only the heritage comes with it stock. You can add the module on the other two for I think 249.99
Ok, all of the Indians come with it standard, so $250.00 for cruise and then labor for install . Just another selling point for Indian
@@ChopperFett PLUS the cost for HD to program it (not sure of the dollar amount)
Nicely done man and great engines in them bikes and why .....excellent engineering.
I agree RK. Be curious to see how they do.
My only mini gripe is I would have used the low rider S instead of the fat bob. It’s the best selling softail currently. Other than that, well thought out and I like to see the competition in this segment to drive innovation
Hindsight it would have been a bit better you’re probably right! Thanks for the watch and feedback
@@ChopperFett maybe it’s a topic for a separate video once the bike hits showrooms :)
Thats been the status quo with Indian, not enough dealer support. Good luck on whatever you go with.
Loved this. I am comparing these exact bikes at the moment. Can you please do a comparison to the sport glide.
I plan to make one comparing the 111 Chiefs to the 107 Softails. Seeing how I already compared the SCL to the Heritage, was thinking of doing the base Super Chief to the Sport Glide. Cheers!
Awesome intro. I subbed
Thanks for the sub I greatly appreicate.
Just when everyone was saying HD got too expensive here comes Indian even more higher prices and everyone just stays silent...
I noticed that Ruben, the prices are on par with Harley Davidson. All to rich for my blood new anyway.
Yep at the end you gotta choose what works best for your situation. Thanks Mark!
Nice video. Love both brands!
Thank you and as do I!
thanks for that well investigated and substantial comparison. Wouldn't have thought Harley can compete so good to the new and cool Indians Chiefs! :-)
I know right? Really it comes down to if you want a fancy gauge or not. Thanks for the watch.
The Bobber Dark Horse would be better compared to the Softail Slim.
I thought that originally but I was leaning more towards the base Indian bobber with a 111 to a 107 comparison. Thanks for watching Charles I appreciate the feedback!!
What about the Harley Low Rider S ?
Low rider s would also be a good comparo
Where is the full fendered version Indian
I do like the instrument cluster
All the chiefs come with a chopped fender... I think the scout and the touring line have fulls
@@ChopperFett
It needs to have a full fendered version for a Bobber version to make any sense.
OLAC7ng? What's that? Obviously a typo.
@@pmaint1 Haha! I think it should've been 'pushing' or maybe 'placing'!
why is no one comparing the FXLRS to any of these indian motorcycles?
Good point Andrew. Personally the reason I did not was because the two dark horses both have chopped fenders, hence I compared them to the two bobs.
You should have compared the base chief to the street bob. The base chief is MSRP of 14,500. You only included the top of the line most expensive version of each Indian.
I did. I plan to do the base Chief to the softail slim or standard which is in the same ball park.
Good comparison, bro!
Appreciate brother!!!
The bags don’t lock on the Super Chief and it doesn’t have driving lights
This is true. I think my next film will compare it to the sport glide perhaps
Nice job! The competition between the 2 manufactures only benfits the consumers. A bit to pricey for 2 wheels IMO. This is the first I've seen the super chief, I really like the looks, I'm a fan of the smaller front fenders. Great info, I hope you received my email and thanks again.
I agree. The more options gives the consumer more power
I just hope Polaris doesn't pull the rug out from under Indian riders like they did with VICTORY.
That would make me so sad Bill! I think sales of the new Indian models have been pretty on par with the other guy so hoping they are here for awhile.
Great versus video 👍
Thank you 👍
Nice comparison my friend but I thought I read where chief’s tank was 4.5?
www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/chief-dark-horse/specs/
Took the figures off their webpage. Thanks for watching.
Wish they put the 108 in the Chief
I'm not sure why they didnt to be honest.
I actually think you get more from the chief models then you do from the touring models
Especially if you go Super Chief Limited, I dont see much of a point for the touring models (Im not a blast my radio for the world to hear it type guy hahaha) Thanks for watching man!
Oh like the topic 😉
Make you miss Indian?
@@ChopperFett boo the man
Looks like a Victory Gunner
It does have some similarities for sure!!! Makes sense it’s all the same people. Thanks for the watch.
@@ChopperFett
Hoping for a Bobber version of the Challenger
But that’s the bobber 🤔
Little bit of everything thrown into one haha.
These brands and their prices. How do they justify it when the Japanese offer more for less. Ok, indians are a work of art, and Harley has the History and their sound is iconic , but I can't justify paying double for half.
That is a very fair point. Some of the new bikes I’m looking at are from the land of Japan for that very reason.
American bikes hold their value much better also.
Great video, but I don't think people buy Harley because they are a value?
True, but if you offer two premium brands, similarly built, some of modern America will go for the value over the name. Not all, but some.
@@ChopperFett And what makes Indian a premium brand? They have been owned by Polaris for a decade and only relevant the last 3 to 4 years. The Indian name has been passed around more than the preacher's daughter on a Saturday night :-)
You mean dance partners.... I assume. LOL.
Street bob still looks better.
I agree! Thanks for the watch!
If only they made it dual front disc brakes
Yea I can't imagine too much added cost adding an additional disc and caliper to the bikes. Thanks for the watch.
The Street Bob and all Softails have a better suspension
Just compare two bikes, don’t bounce around in one episode. Good information to have for new buyers, but it would’ve been beneficial to compare/contrast two bikes thoroughly
Harley !!!
They do offer a bit more variety in the looks dept.
The Chief looks better...
Reminds me of my Dyna!
It does. Indian going after those customers
So pretty 😍
They are quite gorgeous bikes.
@@ChopperFett I can see that ❤
Can you still bar hop and ride drunk without gear like true Harley riders? BTW I ride a Harley but don't do that.
Hahaahah you can do whatever ya want! Lol. I don’t either but I’m not a true Harley rider maybe lol
I’m a Harley rider and I do those things. And you bet your ass I’m gonna keep doing that.
For one thing it is balanced. Watch the video about the thunderstroke
Got a link? PS did find a stage 3 custom pipe etc turn 110HP 140TQ
Well at least HD didn't walk away from it's customers like Victory/ INDIAN all the same company
I can appreciate a company still going strong after 100 plus years, even though they did have a temp buy it in the 70s the name never changed.
Do you own a victory?
@@jonathannovak5961 still have my 2008 , had a 2010 both ran great . Blow my HD' s away
@@jonathannovak5961 f@#ken polaris don't trust that company. Same thing going to happen to the new Indian owners
I can agree with this. My next two bikes in mind are both non Harley Davidson.
