Going to attempt this today but I need to watch this again as I missed how to do the D lol wish me luck 😅 must be so satisfying when catching fish on a made chod rig
Spot on again i know the guy below has given a negative response to it but i couldn't disagree more with it i would much rather watch a tutorial video from a trusted company and proven accomplished angler thanks John
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV Great vid as always. Is there any benefit to tying the floss this way, as opposed to pulling it through the boilie? Thanks
Hi Ghost I only got back into carp fishing about a year ago after several years off and there’s so much different information out there now. I went through a phase of getting really confused with rigs and tied up the slip D as it looked great. Came back more often than not with the D and hookbait tangled around the hook, never used it again. Hope this saves you some time, a blowback rig, D rig or German rig will largely do the same thing I believe. Good luck
A great tutorial video as always, just wondering would it make any difference if I was to feed the bait floss through the pop-up with a boilie needle then blob it off, like you did in the spinner rig tutorial? Just feels alot easier and quicker that way.
Hi if you used a micro ring swivel on the 'D' section and not a rig ring then yes you could. Ideally when using the floss blob method you want the pop-up pulled onto the micro swivel for secure hold of the hookbait.
Great video! How would you attach the chod rig to the lead core if the lead core is ready made up? I'm new to this and was given loads of ready made rigs and can't for the life of me figure out how he attached them 🤦🤦
When using beads on the chod rig, whether that being on your main line with a piece of silicone of if you’re using leader …. How do you know where to put the top bead of you’re unsure of the lake bed? Thanks everyone 👍🏼
I just be a little bit over generous on the top Bead just to be certain it’s sitting on the weed ya can’t over do it has it will settle itself hope this helps
Great video thank you. The only thing is if you are using a safety heli system and you drop the lead then snap off. How will the hook length run up the leader ? I had this happen to me and was like thank god I used a helisafe then thought how is the fish going to get rid of the leader ? I now use naked chod if I need to dump the lead
Hi Dash, the top bead needs to be able to come free under pressure to allow the hook link to slide off in the event of a break off - we use the 'no-trace' beads from Korda which have a side split to ensure this happens easily.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV thanks for replying , do you think the hook length will run up the leader especially lead core if it’s next to the buffer bead without the weight of a lead ? I just can’t see how it can with the leader hanging down unless the heli clip catches on to something.
Hi Jack, mainly because that's how I've always done it - it also means you don't pierce the pop-up, potentially letting water to get in (over long periods of time) and effect the buoyancy.
Yes great for mud - but you have to fish on a heli set up. If you use this on a lead clip set up in deep mud/silt, the lead will drag this under the silt with it.
I’ve seen with rig tutorials for the hinge stuff rig people use a whipping knot instead of the knotless knot. As the chod rig is the same section as the Hinge Stiff would you use a whipping knot?
Yes you could, I personally prefer the Knotless Knot as it fills the eye with two passes of the mono, which I feel prevents twist and rubbing of the mono on the eye while playing carp.
In that case I'd probably go for a 'naked' set-up. So having the hooklink running on the main line without any kind of leader using the Naked Chod Safety System (all the correct beads and tubes etc) from Korda.
I struggle when I comes to treading the small section that makes the D as there’s already 2 loads of line running through the eye..? I use size 6 chod hooks aswel. Any advise?
Thanks Chris, yep the sleeve ideally needs to be the other way around not that it will be detrimental this way just not ideal - the problems of concentrating too much on filming the rig not tying it! Doh!
I always have trouble with the D section fitting back through the eye after the knotless knot. I use size 6 krank choddys and 25lb mouth trap. Any advice?
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV just tried it. Works great. Even the way you tie the knotless knot makes it neater and tighter. Thanks a lot!!! Can finally tie my own now!!
Hi John, I saw in one of the comments where you said one can still use a micro ring swivel. How deep do you push it inside the pop-up to ensure it doesn't interfere with the mechanics of the rig? Will a bait screw still achieve the same results here?
Fantastic yet another video of how to tie a chord rig! The other 25'000 videos of how to tie this rig were really feeling lonely without this definitive version!! It might be more helpful to anglers to give them a how to tie a side hooked rig or the original hair rig than yet another one of these.
Hi Gary, the first how to tie the Chod Rig video on our channel and part of a conclusive series of 'how to' video's that wouldn't be complete without covering this presentation - sorry it wasn't for you, but thank you for taking the time to comment. Good luck on the bank!
Tying the bait on just helps pop-up remain buoyant for longer as piercing the bait allows water into the bait, which is fine in most cases - John is just in the habit of tying on pop-ups with this rig.
On the part showing how to tie the rig when attaching the swivel you say its a number 8 swivel not size 11 chod swivel.. could confuse foke thats all.. Nice videos tho 👌 👏
Im sorry, I disagree with all the comments. I think the rig is very shoddy looking and you've over complicated it with the bait floss. Why on earth didnt you just stick a baiting needle through your popup, pull the baiting floss through the popup with the baiting needle and then blob the ends of the floss to seal it? This gives the bait far better natural movement near the hook and a far more presentable rig. I suggest people take a look t a few more video's of tying a chord rig before taking the advice from this one, its honestly not that good. Sorry, just my opinion.
I like the rig, but the thing about throwing a led every time? I know why but do you guys lose so many fish that you need to do that? I have been fishing carps since 1997 and have never been so stupid as to waste my money on that.
Blimmey thought i was the only person still tying their baits like this😊

I'm hooked on these vids and you answer question luv it
No worries we're here to help!
These are really good vids that help me understand could you do a slip d and explain why you would use this rig as I don’t know
You would use a chod over something like heavy silt or weed, so the rig would present itself over the top without sinking into it.
Thanks, we will be covering lots of different presentations.

A good tip is to use a bait screw. That way you can switch popups quicker and easier

@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV thank you very much always rely on ur baits👍
Great vid, when you see two beads the same like on most sets ups can you still move the first one higher?
Yes you can!
Hello Mainline, I am loving the how to vids but when it comes to the chod rig I find it a pain to do the way you have shown so tie it multi rig style.
Thats okay Mark - it can always be adapted to your style - glad you're enjoying the videos!
Great explanation. Is that system good for mud, especially is deep and soft or is better solution hely sistem? Thx
Yes, it is.
Yes great for mud - but you have to fish on a heli set up. If you use this on a lead clip set up in deep mud/silt, the lead will drag this under the silt with it.
Another great vid thanks , is it for buoyancy your looping the floss and not piercing the boilie ?
Hi, yes, by not piercing the pop-up it won't absorb water (as quickly) and remain buoyant for the longer periods.
With the attachment of the boilie, can it be done using a normal type hair, or does it actually need the filament tied around the outside of it?
Alot of fisheries have bans on leaders, can you do this same kind of set up with your mainline instead of a leader?
Yes you can, I'd recommend the Korda Naked Chod system that has really well designed buffer beads.
Great video John 👍🏻
Thanks Steve!

Yes you could, I personally prefer the Knotless Knot as it fills the eye with two passes of the mono, which I feel prevents twist and rubbing of the mono on the eye while playing carp.
If you have a fixed lead and saftey stoppers at the top, will this cause hook pulls with the lead being so close to the hook?
Brilliant video thanks
No worries Gary!
can i use a bait screw instead or micro ring swivvel dont know how i feel about the bait floss being around the bait like that
Yes you can.
Can you overweight pop ups if fishing over chod or does it need to always need to sink slowly?
I thread my bait floss through the baits. I don’t trust the hoops I’ve had baits come off before
They must be super-tight.
Normally the bait swells a bit which helps it stay on
Any tips for using the chod rig with tubing as there’s leader bans on my water
In that case I'd probably go for a 'naked' set-up. So having the hooklink running on the main line without any kind of leader using the Naked Chod Safety System (all the correct beads and tubes etc) from Korda.
Would it work if you mount the pop up on a screw not floss??
Yes it would.
can you use a bait screw instead of bait floss?
Yes you could Jay.
Yes I'm going to use a bait screw instead of floss
Fantastic video mate. Thanks
Thanks Andrew - glad you enjoyed it!
Great, use a background which means you can see naff all
Can you really get 25lb mouthtrap through a size 6 chod hook 3 times. Or did you use 20lb when tying this
Haha yes you can, but it is a tight fit - cutting the end of the Mouthtrap at a sharp angle and keeping it taught while tying is key.
I struggle when I comes to treading the small section that makes the D as there’s already 2 loads of line running through the eye..? I use size 6 chod hooks aswel. Any advise?
Cutting the tag end at an angle so it has more of a sharp point can help.
Blobb it after its gone through the eye😂
Great vid,but you have the sleave the wrong way round, the taper should be facing the lead🤔🤔
Thanks Chris, yep the sleeve ideally needs to be the other way around not that it will be detrimental this way just not ideal - the problems of concentrating too much on filming the rig not tying it! Doh!
Let’s see if this works on Wednesday 🙏🏼🤞🏻👊🏻❤️

Someone please tell me how the 3rd time going through the hook eye fits? Mine won’t go through just after using the small rig ring
Hi, try cutting the tag end at an angle so its sharp,
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV worked thanks alot
What do I do if I the mouth trap wont go through the eye of the hook when I'm making the d section I'm using size 6 chod hooks
If you cut the Mouthtrap at an angle so the tag end is pointed it should go through if not you can use a whipping knot also known as a Snail Knot.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV ok thanks
Can u use 2 bbs instead of putty ?
Much better to use putty with this rig.
I always have trouble with the D section fitting back through the eye after the knotless knot. I use size 6 krank choddys and 25lb mouth trap. Any advice?
It can be a tight fit but should be okay - cutting the tag end diagonally so its arrow-like can help.

I'll put the whole of the micro swivel in the pop-up leaving the ring to move freely - yep you can also use a bait screw.
What can you use instead of Chod filament?
Any thing with good memory will work but not an elephant
