FINALLY! A reaction to the mighty Captain Beyond. They were overlooked in 1975 & they're overlooked now -- except by us fanatical patrons of their music like me. A great, great band. Please more!
@@scottohlemeier247 Wow! Good for you! I still have Gentle Giant's album "In a Glass House" that took me five years to dig up. Those things went out of print before the advent of the internet.
in december of '76 i went, with a friend, to a house where a band lived. they had a studio in the celler of the old house. egg crates on the walls, a little booth for the sound guy, the whole garage band thing. first time i'd ever heard a full on electric rock and roll band live sitting less than ten feet in front of the band. and these guys played dancing madly backwards and then went right into zep's dancing days. they also did a thousand days of yesterday. phew. good times. :D
Top 10 LP all time for me. You hear that Duane Allman slide in this. And the jazz count? Freaking awesome. Bobby always killing it. Gotta play this LP from the beginning. You won't turn it off.
Absolutely ! You know hindsight 20/20 vision and seeing indeed how all things acted on played out and settled in position firmly believe and I’m positive their are many who have witnessed either from a fan’s perspective or just a witness to both Deep Purples as well as Rod Evans career trajectories that after Rod Evans dismal from Deep Purple leading to his union in forming Captain Beyond
This album should be listened to ini t's entirety. This song is an awesome kind of interlude. But you should start from the beginning with the outstanding "Dancing Madly Backwards". Cool fact is that the singer is first mark Deep Purple singer Rod Evans. In my opinion their first self titled album "Captain Beyond" is as good or even better than Purples "IN Rock" or "Machine Head".
@@megamaniac7402 And you would be correct on that assumption also but man if they haven’t got the memo by now ! Well my guess is they’re never gonna be enlightened believe me I tried on my end only to be met with disdain. But if you insist brother good 👍 luck and more power to you.
Thanks Dean! This is from their first album, which is great. But for no good reason at all, I like their second album better. It's a bit more laid back, I think.
Elton? David Bowie? Think more in the direction of the Allman Brothers and Southern Power Rock. This album was dedicated to Dwaine Allman. These guys didn't need two drummers though, but just Bobby Caldwell.
@@yrulooknatme Released in November 1969, The Allman Brothers Band was the first album issued on Capricorn Records. The Macon, Ga. based imprint would become synonymous with Southern rock, thanks to iconic hits by the Allmans, Marshall Tucker Band, Wet Willie and others.
This was not psychedelic, but they spoofed that age lyrically (lovingly). These guys weren't a match for Pink Floyd or Quicksilver Messenger Service, but very few are. Quicksilver never sold out to their local audience in San Francisco. They were the Allman Brothers back before the Allman Brothers got started. They were two great dueling guitarists backed by two drummers and a concert pianist. Lots of proficiency and effort wasted on a crowd of nobodies.
The head-bobbing and pre·cognition of next beat etcetc implies you have heard it before. Sigh. And, who doesnt start at *song·1?! Guess even more 'dramatic' reaction to *that·one ensues then..

The Japanese didn't overlook this band. After this album went out of print, that is where one had to go to get a copy.
@@WilliamJones-sf5pt I still have my original LP with the 3D picture on the cover

Such a great song / album !
amazing dtummer from johnny winters group. bass player from iron butterfly and the great rhino on guitar. rod evans evryone knows about.
Days gone by .... never to return 😥 so many wonderful memories connected to this band and their music RIP!
My favorite album of all time!
One of my top 10 albums ever, lead singer from Deep Purple lead guitarist from Iron Butterfly best drummer ever…. Amazing album!
All respect given to a band that showed others how to compose masterpieces.

Saw them at selland arena early 70s, these guys were so underrated, Larry Reinhardt on guitar!!!
The only band that I never got to see live that was my fave! You're so lucky.
Superb drumming!
Indeed
The prerequisite to all timeless music is great percussion.
Rod Evans, deep purple's first lead singer.......he should have gotten more recognition than he had.
I think he got more recognition than he wanted (not in a good way)...sad ending to a fine beginning.

I busted a pair of chopsticks on my kitchen table listening to this track. 🍜 😌
😂
The greatest album ever created.
You can’t just listen to one cut, you have to listen to the whole album.
Once a month since 72

Yes! More effort, less popularity driven virtuosity. Long Live Captain Beyond!
And the bass player is Lee Dorman of Iron Butterfly, with lead RINO, Bobby Caldwell on drums, who was a producer and collaborator with Brian Eno.
Better ? Way Better No question ! ! !
@@tonygarcia179you're right. I tried to be modest. Didn't wanna upset fans of DP, or scare them away from experiencing the Captain.

Early progressive rock , 15 when I bought this .. desert island list, this would be one album I would have to take
Good pick Will F.👍👍

Easter egg because it's not so obvious I guess!
Bass player Lee Dorman wrote the whole 2nd album. My fave bassist after Geezer Butler, who wrote a fair amount of Black Sabbath music.

Sir Rod Evans.
of course it' was progressive but it was psychedelic . "Yes" was progressive. IMO.
Yes didnt stick with psychedelic for very long, but Astral Traveler was good
