Life Focus Season 3: The Wit, Wisdom, and Wickedness of Alice Cooper

  • When Alice Cooper hit the rock music scene in the 1970's, teens flocked to his concerts and parents wrung their hands and tossed out his records. This "Godfather of Shock Rock" was known for his horror-like stage shows featuring guillotines, fake blood, and boa constrictors. But as Life Focus discovered, there's more to the world's most "beloved heavy metal entertainer" than meets the concertgoer. Alice Cooper is a man of wit and wisdom on his own journey of faith, determined to make a positive difference in the world.

I admire the man's courage and his faith. And the deal is, despite the haters, the man is still a respected legend in the music and entertainment business.

Guys like Alice and Dave Mustaine, and those guys from KoRn, get it from both sides - they've got non-Christian folks laughing at them and saying "Ha, you're so stupid for becoming a Christian," and they've got some Christians telling them "You're not REALLY Christian," and demand they "prove" it. I admire anyone who is that famous and still sticks to their faith despite being laughed at - even I am not that strong sometimes.

I understand what you're saying,daffers234. As a Christian myself, I do not have to "prove" my faith to anyone but my Lord. I bet you are stronger than you give yourself credit for.

daffers234: I KNOW, RIGHT? The biggest persecutors of Alice Cooper, are those who are supposed to be Christians! You can see it in the comment section here! It is disgusting! But the persecuted are blessed, for they are persecuted for Christ's sake.
It is exactly what scripture warned of, in Romans 14;13:
"Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister."

I saw the Coop's in Dec. of 73.' They came to Nashville and then Alice came back in 75' with the Nightmare tour. To make a long story short Iv'e been sober 21 years now. Only God could have taken the desire away. You can laugh at Alice, Mustaine & I. We don't care because we know who's in charge. And you are in my prayers. God bless...

Love it to Death was the first album I bought in 1971 at age 15. Parents hated Alice. Now look at his family, his beautiful wife and kids. Straightened his life out and became a family man. He was always a nice guy, though, even in his booze-soaked early days. He was a real gentleman in interviews and very interesting, funny, articulate and polite. I remember the day he appeared on the Phil Donahue Show early 70s. He had the audience of mostly middle-aged housewives eating out of his hand.

Wish I had a place like Alice and wife provides now to go to then. I wouldn't have been such a juvenile delinquent with too much grey water under my bridge at 16!

She said as a stage performer she gained a new respect for Alice and what he put in to the show...she thanked me for making her go...she was an alcoholic too

I'm not at all religious, but I admire him greatly because he went through hell but he pulled it together and came out the other side as a whole, fulfilled, and really great person. And the music, especially in the 70's, was pretty damn good too. Just my 2¢.

  • @frankiefelinesalwayswelcom5825

I have loved Alice since 1970. As a kid of 14 I went nuts to see my crush on TV, sneaking up at 1am to watch cable TV in 1972. My Grandfather saw me, but to his grace, never told my Mom. It could have turned into a nightmare. I still have my crush infatuation on young Alice pictures still to this day.

I just love the fact that all the parents and the media who cut Alice Cooper down and hated him in anyway when he became popular that he proved them to be ignorant imbeciles. He’s smart, funny and a wonderful husband. He has a relationship with God. I’ve loved him and his music, his concerts/showmanship and he has had great musicians that have played with him. How many rock gods {technically The Godfather of Shock Rock} have never been in trouble with the police, or made the news because he did something stupid... and he’s still going strong at 70. He truly loves his fans. I finally got to met him. To say he’s a nice person is not nearly enough. I’ve seen him in concert 3 times. There’s a few who TRIED to copy him, and they failed miserably. Alice doesn’t have bubble gum fans like K...never mind.

@Sophie Cooper What a lucky lady to have the last name Cooper. I’m so jealous of how many times you have seen Alice. But I have been blessed to be able to see him when I did and finally meet him. And when you meet him you will will not have much time with him, but you will be forever changed. I’m 61 years old and sitting beside Alice I felt young again and humble. He truly is a gift from God. 🌹

I was a teenager and son of a pentecostal nut job father in 85. I got the book "Me Alice" at the school library and it resonated with me and made me a fan. I still to this day don't buy the Christian stuff. Praying to me is begging God to change his mind and I also don't believe an All loving creator would send anyone to Hell. Rome invented Hell and the messiah complex to control the Christians. But hey if you want to think of heaven with the Likes of Jeffrey Dahmer and many like him because they we're forgiven, more power to ya. To me we're just animals like the rest with a conscience and spirituality.

+Mr. Mike Um no... more people are promiscuous now than ever and are into a lifestyle of drinking and partying or attached to their phones. Its not even about religion but more about faith in something. So many young people commit suicide because they feel they have nothing and no one to hope in or anything on a higher level that will help them in their life. Whether God exists or not, faith can help people. This generation is heading down a more darker path than ever. This is not a good future

@@kc201310 Oh ok, because the Alice Cooper persona is an animal enthusiast, like the late Steve Irwin was... Not!
Vincent Furnier the Christian family man, and scratch golfer I'm sure loves all God's creatures, as we all should, got his first Boa from his original drummer Neil Smith, who also keeps snakes to this day. It's the one on the "Killer" album cover. A great album with songs like "Killer", "Dead Babies", and "Halo Of Flies". The snake enhanced Alice's sinister, dark, and evil/satanic persona, and that's why we love him.

Wonderful story - but Christ is Life Affirming - and satan is life-destroying, and when you have something that, for entertainment, pretends to destroy life, or is anti-life or the antithesis of the sacredness of Life that God imbued His creation with - you have evil. I don't know why something life-destroying as opposed to life AFFIRMING on the stage is still an option with someone who has been granted new life in Christ.

Perhaps you've heard of my favorite author, a guy named C. S. Lewis. He's been called one of the greatest Christian thinkers of the 20th century. He wrote a book called "The Screwtape Letters" about a demon's attempt to school another demon on how to drag people to Hell. And then there was another of his books called "The Great Divorce" about lost souls on a bus ride to Hell. But, of course, "Christ is Life Affirming," so old Lewis could not possibly have been a REAL Christian. Right? Seriously, entertainment done with the purpose of making one examine their eternal status (however bombastic it may seem to those who have supposedly done so and crossed the dividing line) is probably worthwhile.

    • @Blurb777
      @Blurb777 7 років тому +2

Ka-Pop - Apples and oranges. C.S Lewis was using allegories to prove a point - that of salvation through Christ. I did not get this through Alice's shows. I understand entertainment with a purpose but, again, do not see it in Cooper's shows. Sorry.

Alice Cooper corrupted my children and all four of them wound up in the gutter.

All 4? Alice had THAT much control over your children? Maybe you're joking, I hope so. I would suspect that there might have been an issue way before they ever heard Alice. Blaming someone else for your failures is not very constructive, don't you think?

Alice Cooper did this? Doubt it. Ever thought how YOU may have raised them yourself. It's always easier to blame someone else.
