So the clownery really is out here y'all. We all have this fungus on our scalps called Malassezia. It feeds on our scalp's natural oils, otherwise known as sebum. Then it releases free fatty acids onto the scalp, which sets off an inflammatory response from our immune system. BOOM! Redness, itchiness, and rapid skin cell turnover aka DANDRUFF.
Luckily, there are ways to treat it.
    1. Pyrithione Zinc is an antifungal that reduces the amount of Malassezia present.
    2. Sulfur is also an antifungal that reduces the amount of Malassezia present.
    3. Salicylic Acid targets sebocytes to reduce sebum production!
All of these active ingredients help with the itching and flakes! BUT it's important to know that there is no long term cure for dandruff. It's a response that is based in genetics. Some have it worse than others, some grow out of it, but we ALL can control it with the right products.
And always talk to a dermatologist if you need more guidance.

THERE'S A GIVEAWAY ON MY INSTAGRAM RIGHT NOW UNTIL FEB 28th!
We all have Malassezia. BUT it is our genetics that determine how our skin responds to it. This is why dandruff can run in the family, and why some have worse cases than others. Know that while it's not necessarily curable because of it's genetic roots, it's TREATABLE and oftentimes you grow out of it.

True story back in the day I had hella dandruff. I started greasing my scalp with sulfur 8 and it helped to reduce the dandruff and my hair started growing back. Then I screwed it all up with a perm. RIP to my scalp.

@Simone205 I think I used it for a few years. I did the shampoo once a week and the grease 3 times a week. I continued using it after I permed it. A *very important* step in slowing fungal growth is *NOT* letting your scalp air dry. Blow dry your scalp and, if possible, only apply treatment oils (like sulfur8, tea tree, mixes containing salicylic acid, ketoconazole etc) to it; not anything heavy. Moisture and oil make fungi happy. Good luck!

Boy, why do I relate to you so much right now haha. I have the exact same problems. I've had dandruff ever since I was little (you know, back in the days when my mom used vaseline, dax, blue magic or whatever other grease you can think of on my scalp) and funnily enough sulphur 8 medicated was around for A LONG time and we used it to treat my dandruff too. Of course, when I was younger I didnt really know what I know now.
I remember a video you posted back about just using grease for a week to take a break from natural hair products cause you were experiencing lots of buildup and dandruff. That is so me. I have begun to do that recently and let me tell you HUGE DIFFERENCE! All I did was make sure to clean my scalp with whatever shampoo (whether it be sulphate or just clarifying, whatever works) slap some sulphur 8 on my scalp and only used water + grease for my hair strands and my scalp was clean, non flaky, non itchy or irritated for the whole week. My hair also stayed moisturized longer because the grease kept the moisture in while keeping additional moisture out.
I dont know if its because I'm low porosity or whatnot, but my scalp gets buildup easily, even if I just put oil on my scalp or just use one hair product. But yes, I'm trying to minimalize and be very particular about which ingredients to use for my hair.
But yeah sulphur 8 is pretty much gold. This is actually a very addressing and informative video and just goes to prove that you don't have to overdo it with the hair products and sometimes just the bare minimal is enough. Just do what's best for your own hair. Aka fo what mama used to do.
Thank you for this video I needed this!!

Just wash your face and beard daily with a little of the Sulfur 8 shampoo you have. On your scalp, it's called dandruff, but on your face it's called seborrheic dermatitis or seborrheic eczema. The zinc pyrithione in the dandruff shampoo is a standard treatment for all of it.

I used to have this problem when I was younger and sulfa8 never worked for me, if it doesn't work for you,you should try tea tree oil. Acv rinse, monistat 7( this has a chemical in it that kills fungi).

Hey will! For your eyebrows use the royal oils scalp cream under them. It cured it for me after 1 day. I just use a little once a day in the morning. I saw your review on the line so it's already in your stash 😃

I’m glad that you went to see a dermatologist about your scalp. That’s why when t shampoo I don’t just shampoo the scalp. I drag the shampoo down my hair. Making sure that I got all of the buildup. Peace and love ❤️!

Sulfer 8 is good, it also turned all of my silver jewelry black, which is probably why I stopped using it. Your hair looks marvelous, I'm in transition with the growth of my hair after years of locks which I enjoyed while I had them. Regular braids will be my new normal once my hair is long enough to be braided. Controlling dandruff will be easier with unknotted hair.

The African Black Soap Bentonite Clay shampoo bar(Shea Moisture) has been my saving grace lately. I'm glad that Sulfur 8 has a new line that I can try. When I get stressed I get crazy dandruff/psoriasis.

I’m so happy you made this video because day 3 after wash my scalp is flaky and dry. Everytime I try to oil my scalp anyday after washing it get super itchy and irritated and here come the red patches that be lifting. My whole life I had this problem and I just could t figure out why I’m getting dandruff badly regardless on or after the 3rd day of washing. I’m trying this TOMORROW.

I had horrible seborrheic dermatitis for years, even after I big chopped 4 years ago. My mom would apply sulfur 8 a few times a week growing up. I wanted a more natural and curl friendly option since many of the products that are helpful for dandruff contain silicones and sulfates. I found a scrub by a brand called Mane Krush and my scalp's prayers were answered. The first time I used it my scalp was red and very inflammed, I would often need to use my medicated oil immediately after I rinse out my shampoo and again after I use my deep conditioner. I tried this scrub, let it sit on my hair for about 5 minutes before I washed it out. My scalp was clear and healthy looking..not a flake in sight. Try that.
