I agree with you on that. When my sister brought home her ex-boyfriend's cat cause he was abusing him it took Snare a long time to heal physically and mentally. He had wounds all over him from stress, I still remember the wounds and just going into detail will make me tear up, he was sick, and the one thing that took him longer to hear from was him being around men. He had a fear if men because of what he went through. In the beginning when he saw my dad or brother he would get scared and run and hide. I don't remember how longer it took him to realize that these two men weren't gonna hurt him I was just a 7 year old girl who knew that he needed help.
11 years have gone by since that first day. Snare is happy, healthy, and living out his golden years with me. He is no longer the sick and scared cat that he once was. But a price was made when I rescued him. The wounds that I mentioned in the beginning I can never forget. But like I always say when I tell people about what my boy had faced, it was price that worth it in the end because Snare is alive.
My parents wanted to send Snare to try shelter and I knew what that meant. He was to sick, to scared to be in a shelter. I feared the worst and kept thinking that if I give up it would be Snare who would pay the price so I kept fighting to save his life. He realized that he was safe now and started to fight to get better. He is now a Mama's boy who comes running meowing at me. I still remember screaming at my parents anytime they brought up wanting to send Snare to a shelter.

While I didn't foster my dog, I adopted her since they were going to put her down. She 's a pit or pitty. She had been terribly abused with 15 other dogs tied up in a backyard and had to fight for her food and were freezing to death in the backyard one cold December. . She was near starvation and 4 of the 15 had to be put down. I reflected on this recently after 5 years working with this dog. While she still has baggage (who doesn't) I am amazed at what a sweet being she has become. It turns out I am the lucky one, as she has taught me many things about life and resiliency. I have also learned to love more deeply and unconditionally than ever before. Wow!!!

Animals have much better memory than humans give them credit for. Trauma can stay with cats, dogs & many other fur babies. Every time I foster a stray cat, they turn into the most affectionate, appreciative & loving little things & I wish more people were aware of how much they can help the rescue community just by offering to foster an animal. This saves lives. Please consider, if you have the means, contacting your local rescues & shelters. If you can't foster, donations save lives! Please help the animals in your community. Humans caused animals to be where they are at this point, every single person who helps a local rescue literally saves lives & could genuinely impact an animal, from fear & anxiety to a gentle, affectionate baby. ♡ Videos like this inspire me to finally start making videos, despite my depression, to try & document both my own rescue work & the work of local shelters.

We have many of our own foster fails, haha. My late fiance & I did a lot of foster work with kittens & stray cats. A requirement for any future partner(s) is to love animals & be at least slightly involved with my rescue efforts.
I'm thankful that my mom is a wonderful person & taught me how to bottle feed animals at a young age, supported my love of animals, allowed me to 'shadow' a vet next to her job so I could experience veterinary life, help at shelters & even adopt a few different animals growing up.
our first foster kittens were a pair of newborn black kittens when I was 10, the person who found them planned to 'take them out back' if no one took them so we ended up getting attached & had Twiggy & Shadow for 13 years. At one point when I was 17, we found 2 litters of kittens on mom's property (an old decrepit shed we were knocking down & our basement), she let me foster all of them & we adopted one of the 12 kittens.
Now as an adult, I have 2 of my own cats, another one shared with my partner & he has a special needs cat who shares a room with our housemate (both are happy with the arrangement, our cat Beans chose that room!). I have a cat named Bones I'm working with now, she stayed a couple of nights & I've found her owner to offer help with vet care through the local rescue groups, which she accepted. We'realso going to help her build a few things to help prevent her cat from sneaking out of her busy house. :) Please consider helping your local animals & neighbors. Working with animals is the one thing in life that makes me feel good. Humans may have ulterior motives at times, but animals are just good. They don't have ulterior motives, they just love you & appreciate you. Every town & city has shelters/rescues, PLEASE help if you can. We always need more help. ♡
