- Time to clean up the cylinder head to prepare it ready to go on my 998 A+ engine.
It's starts off looking a bit ropey but turns out good.

Don’t mind me, just here borrowing your measurements from this and the next video 😝😝 nice useful video as always
Your the second person to comment on this series in the recent weeks
You're daring to wear that nice looking watch while working on car parts.. If that were me, I would have it all scratched up. good bit of information there Adam.. helpful.. thanks
I usually wear it to start with and then take it off after a short time. I don't want to break it
Great work Adam, we used to cut valve reliefs in blocks for Mini 7 engines using 12G940 on 850 and 998 blocks, it is definitely possible to do yourself, either a milling cutter in a pillar drill, or even by hand (carefully!) with a carbide cutter in a die grinder. Well done for trying something different!
Thanks. I have been looking at my pillar drill and seeing how I could use that.
Great video Adam, looking forward to the next one
Thanks Sean. It'll be out next weekend. I'm planning to get through this quick because I miss driving my mini already
You just blew my mind adam, doooh !
😂 😂 Is that a good thing?
(- or make 4 slightly cardboard circles to push down over the piston crowns first)
I like that idea
Nice one Adam
Thanks Keith
Nice update, my 998 runs a big valve head . I’ve got a 1275 head I thought of using before but never got round to it.
Which one do you have on now? Is it a 12g295?
I’m not sure, will check later and let you know. I remember being told in the past that it was possible to run a 1275 head without the pockets in the block but I’m not sure if it is.
If you have a standard cam or an mg metro one i belive it's possible. But I'm running a minispares evo001 cam which has a bit more lift
It looks like 12G20 and I can’t make out the last digit as the rockers etc are still on it, the head was ported and polished when I got it. I was thinking of the MG metro head and cam onto another block I have when the bodywork is complete.
Awesome. I'd love ported and polished one. In fact I'd like to have a go myself one day. Will get a spare first lol
Adam, What a difference after you cleaned the head up, Interesting to see just what parts you will use, Cheers Dave
I think it was in quite good condition but had just been left neglected for some time.
That cleaned up really well mate, great vid, u not tempted to fitted hardened seats while its all stripped?
No but only because I'm tight. The 12g940 heads seem relatively cheap so I'll perhaps get another one at some point
@@Thecarislife 😂😂fair enough, it only took a few days for my mini spares delivery so hopefully you will be cracking on soon
any tips on moggys
In terms of fitting a 1275 cylinder head? I'm not sure to be honest I haven't worked on a moggy. I'd assume the same conditions apply as the mini 998
That heads come up nice and Is it just exhaust valve side that needs the relief cuts doing
Yes it is. The 998 bore is too small to fit both inside lol
Adam Campion haha im looking at doing wht you have done but going off of online proces i may aswell pay an extra couple hundred quid and get a conplete 1275 😂 also do you need to run anything else with the 1275 head such as smaller pulleys for clearance or whatever
Yeah I think the standard water pump pulley on a 998 will foul the head. I have a smaller one anyway because I changed it a while ago. I might also have to trim a little bit off the water pump. To do what I'm doing properly with proper machine shop work would get quite expensive I think. But I like to play around
