Has the river really changed that much from the way it's depicted in those lithographs and etchings? These days there seems barely enough depth of water to sail a model boat yet it looks as if it were navigable above Dolgellau back then. Does anyone know?
I don't think it was ever navigable from Dolgellau. When the bales of wool used to leave the town I think they had to get them to Penmaenpool before they could get on boats.
