  • In this video, I show how I make Polymer Clay texture mats from natural items, and metal charms. My apologies for calling the Sea Urchin by the wrong name ( numerous times! ) Sometimes, my mind is ahead of me, dwelling on the next thing I want to show! I highly recommend the Bowl Tutorial from Helen Breil for more tips on making your own mats. Her tutorials can be found here : helenbreil.com

    Thanks for providing additional information about homemade texture plates. The flexibility of Souffle and the longer baking time to increase flexibility is particularly useful. Great tutorial!

    Thanks for sharing this. Although you ummed and ahhed a little, it didn't detract from what you were saying. I loved seeing what you used to make textures. You made so many lovely ones! I am excited to look around my house to see what I can make with my clay now. That tip you gave about using a piece of materiel to make a power puff was brilliant. Your ideas were really great and very useful to know. Thank you and God bless you.

    Hi Patricia, watching you make the impressions for a texture sheet,gave me a few ideas, when you said that you had to fill some of the holes that the sea urchin made with a baller tool, that gave me this idea,,!! Using a little clay to make a pen size roll, then add a bead,by cupping clay around the bead of the roll making it half or quarter size of a normal pen, that can be glued then cupped round the besd and then baked, and using same idea with a snowflake spacer, so that , metal spacer stays on the roll after being glued,,I think it would work, and will try it out, please let me know what you think,,!!the bracelet and pendent you made is beautiful,,great ideas🌺🌹🌺🌹🍁

      I really like Souffle Clay for texture sheets, or Premo Clay. Curing them at 275F or 130C for at least an hour. But you have to be sure of the temperature, just setting the dial to the right temperature may not work - most oven are off quite a bit, so you must have an oven thermometer to be sure. Usually if they break, the oven was too low to cure them correctly. As an example I have to set mine at 290F so that it reaches the 275F that I need

      I'm not sure what Bake and Bend is... Bake and Bond? The liquid is not the same as the Sculpey mold maker. The sheets can be made without the mold maker, just bake them for a long time and keep them fairly thin.

    • @patriciaroberts-thompson
      @patriciaroberts-thompson  6 років тому +1

      I trust my oven not to spike or get too hot while it's coming up to the temperature that I want. Having ceramic tiles and - or bricks in the oven helps with that, and always cover your work with a disposable aluminum baking tin to keep it from scorching. I just add extra time to my baking to accommodate the preheating, so yes, I guess it is easier!

    No one on youtube uses gloves -- have you all had your fingerprints removed? I get fingerprints all over my work no matter what I do, unless I wear gloves. Please, tell me your secret! :)

    • @patriciaroberts-thompson
      @patriciaroberts-thompson  6 років тому +1

      lol! I have developed a lighter touch, so that I don't leave as many fingerprints as I work. I also use the side of my hand a lot to erase fingerprints and marks. Burnishing with deli paper helps a lot too, also great for reducing the amounts of bubbles between layers. If the clay is hot and sticky, you'll have more trouble with prints, let it cool down a bit before smoothing. Petting the clay lightly with your fingertips will erase prints as well. Sometimes I'll use a bit of cornstarch pounced on the clay, and rubbed into the surface - I don't do that as much as I used to, probably because I handle the clay with less pressure. Easier to avoid the problem than fix it. I have tried gloves and finger cots, but they just annoy me
