      I wouldn’t fo it if I were you. It’s a thankless exhausting career. It’s rare to get lunch or any kind of break. You will get stuck working late a lot , take a ton of pager call , you do exams where you inject gel in rectums and vaginas , the implant research is the biggest pain in the a$$, you will have some Karen co workers. They will get on your last nerve. The patients are so nasty to you too. It’s nothing what people think it is. Don’t waste you’d time

    • @MimiLe

      @ccalexander1924 dang that’s the exact opposite of my job we don’t insert any gel the nurses do it. We have a team that we can reach out to for implants we can’t find info on. Lots of resources but I know it’s not like that everywhere!

    • @JDMFR3AK

      @ yes the school Im at is to register for the ARRT. Some other schools offer armrit and arrt but imo the arrt is better and no need for both.

    I kind of get why ppl don't want to give their exact wages, but even just a broad answer helps ppl. Because a lot of job offers don't mention pay. So like if you do this, starting pay could be between 24-30 an hour. If you do this specialty, you can earn about an extra 4-5 dollars. Something like that is helpful. Also, most jobs made it frowned upon back in the day to talk about money because if other workers found out someone was making more money, they would all want more.

    • @MimiLe
      @MimiLe  5 місяців тому +2

      It really can range from $30/hr to $100+ an hr depending on many factors. Also I only do one modality so I can’t speak for other modalities or specialties.

      According to google, the average in California for full time is $110,000 or $53/hr

      I do make more than that and some colleagues of mine that’s been doing this for a long time makes even more than I do but I’ve seen some techs in LA make significantly less than Bay Area for some odd reason.

    Thanks so much for sharing! Are you a travel tech or a staff tech? Also, what advice would you give for someone who’s starting MRI physics? Currently enrolled at CNI college in Santa Ana

    • @MimiLe
      @MimiLe  Рік тому +5

      I am a staff tech. & you have to connect what you're learning in school to when you're scanning. So when you're at clinical try to put the 2 together it will help you understand a lot of it. Know what parameters increase, decrease, and have no change. Try to not just memorize, but to fully understand it as well because it'll make more sense for you.

    • @MimiLe

      Nope never had interest in being a travel tech. Lifestyle is not for me but I know a few people who do it and love it. One of my old clinical students is on an assignment right now straight out of school as well.

      Changing jobs all the time. Going to different locations/areas/states. Dealing with an agency/finding a good agency. I like a stable and consistent schedule. If you’re single and young it might be worth looking into once you gain enough skills because when you go to these contracts they’re going to expect you to know what you’re doing with very little training.

      Yes this is true. Any job no matter what you do will come with pros and cons. But anything in healthcare imo is stressful somehow. There will be good days but also bad just like with any profession. No perfect job, but you have to love what you do!

    Can you shed some light on the following? How's one to get CRT with AARP (MR) only? Looks like CRT is required for employment in CA even for MRI only?

    • @MimiLe
      @MimiLe  8 місяців тому +1

      It just Kaiser that really requires it in CA. You need to do XR first. I just filmed a get ready with me talking about XR to MR vs MR only. Need to edit but it I’ll be up soon. I live in CA and I only have MR, never had an issue finding a job and I’ve had a few jobs already.

    Hi Mimi, thanks for the video its very helpful! Do you have any books or resources you recommend for someone who plans on going to school for this? (doesn't have to just be MRI focused, can be anatomy, medical terminology etc)

    • @MimiLe

      Tbh I used the books from school and when I was studying for my boards i used mriquiz but I heard some people used mri all in one or something of that sort if you want to check them out. Anatomy is sectional anatomy not traditional anatomy by the way when you’re looking!

      Rad tech so you can cross train and get paid more!

    • @MimiLe
      @MimiLe  9 місяців тому +7

      Honestly it depends. What are you interested in? Do you care to do XR and MR at the same time? Cross training isn’t guaranteed at a workplace so you’d have to find a spot that will train you. Are you willing to take multiple ARRT exams to be licensed and keep up with CEs? With MR you will not be likely to float around and do XR here and an MR patient there because MR takes longer vs CT and XR. Where I work you don’t float around and they do not cross train into MR. Just a few things to consider. Def do some more research to make sure you do exactly what you want to do and what works for you.

      @BochaENT 9 місяців тому

      @@MimiLe I agree with your advice and my advice to the original poster is to continue education at their current program if they offer MR/CT programs which then they would be able to sit for the registry.
