    Thank you I’m finally picking up the cello after many years of not playing and practicing Bach’s cello Suite No.1. Thank God for cell phones now because back in 1989 when I was playing I didn’t have that luxury afforded. Now I can watch all kinds of cellists and even you to show me my technique again. It’s almost exactly where I left off with my professor daddy hired long ago. Before he passed away he purchased me a brand new cello and I’m ashamed to say I haven’t been able to pick it up since then and now I’m picking it up again. Are used to be able to play all kinds of things but really I just love to learn solos. I am 50 years old and it’s never too late to enjoy music!
    Thank you sir!

    Been trying to find the answer to this: how do I SKIP strings? Like, playing a not on the G string and on the A string? How do I skip over the D string?

  • @CanadianDivergent
    @CanadianDivergent 11 місяців тому +1

    Question: I use cheap Prelude strings. They are responsive(and very tinny sounding), but when I do a strong accent on the G string, I notice my bow actually depresses the string, so that I also hits the C string creating a squeak. This is despite the fact my bow is perfectly level with the bridge at that point. I even observe the string being depressed when i do this. and seems like a normal amou7nt of bow pressure for an staccato accent to me. The only thing I can come up with is. 1. my strings are now below my level of accomplishment. . 2 My bow is not tight enough (even tho, I make absolutely sure it is just the correct amount of tension when I start). 3. I am playing too high at the area of strings about an inch below the finger board where it seems my tone is best for that piece, and thus the tension of my strings cannot handle a strong accented "bite" into the A string at that point. 4. I am over bowing, despite the fact I use a light attack on it. and not overbearing, with bow pressure. any thoughts on why this is happening? need better strings? or better bow? or both? or technique?

    • @CelloCoach
      @CelloCoach  8 місяців тому

      1 - yes
      2 - most likely no
      3 - this is the culprit, especially for accents on any string
      4 - or you are not controlling the attack to move sideways and not touch another string. Its a common error of a "too loose wrist" whilst accenting. The fingers need to be responsive, the wrist should be flexible but not loose. When we play with firmness, the muscles need to coordinate their flexion with the speed of the note and bow action.
      Great analysis
