For all of us with Anxiety, we can Identify with this song. The 'shadow selves' walking behind them starts out going forward and they reverse and start going backwards. This is superbly shot and their emotion in their faces and voices just show how we feel when we are in an anxiety attack. 10 seconds in when Matt hits us with his first low note I got chills, and when Mitch said 'See right through me', I choke on a sob. I have seen this video over 15 times now and it still affects me.

Scott is taking over the bass parts whenever Matt or Avi singing the lead. Kevin has a high, pretty tenor voice!

I mean would you really be surprised if Kevin could go low as well? I mean he does go low in live performances, if you when they do their Kevin+Matt moment on tour, you can see that he has some really solid slide downs, he's also joins in with Matt in a lot of slides they do in songs, especially live!!

A true 5 point harmony cover! No beatboxing in this one and it sounds incredible! Very haunting 😮 and you get that unique Pentatonix wall of sound that is so beautiful and powerful! My favorite wall of sound is the one in Imagine where they literally sound like one voice which was the message of the cover!
I love it when they pull the goalie and have all five singers out on the ice. Their rich 5-part harmony just can't be surpassed.

Each member was walking behind themselves...and after they started singing mad world (the chorus, I think), they were walking backwards. Not sure what that means, but, pretty cool! Great reaction ❤️

That wall o sound they go into followed by Kirsti's calming, somewhat somber solo made me think of the climax of Imagine and the wholly unexpected harmony between Matt and Mitch early on absolutely slayed me. Have a great day Brad!
When I first listened, I was looking away for just a moment and didn't see Matt come in. My instant thought was "Oh, Kevin has Beyonce out!" Nope, but Matt can do a great imitation of a cello! I know that Mitch + Avi was called "Mavi," so I think that Mitch + Matt should be - "Match!"
I just realized that Matt’s butter-smooth voice sounds like a cello!

Yesss! It's my favorite thing about this cover. It's kinda different to hear them have duets in this constellation switching back and forth. But it's gorgeous, I'm obsessed.
Yes! One of the reasons this cover became an instant favorite is the amazing utilization of every single voice and the pairing off of the extreme tones. And then you have Kevin back there and we can hear him so clearly. It’s just....ugh, so good.

I’ve always wanted to see them but I’ve never been able to :(
I was only able to last December for their Christmas tour, though I've loved them for years. I did VIP because I just had to meet them the first chance I got. My one regret is that I never got to meet Avi, but I will fix that when he is able to reschedule his American tour that got cut short this year.

Nicer! Especially Kevin. I was so starstruck that I couldn't think of anything to say to the others, but I congratulated him on his recent marriage. I'm sure I was probably the 10,000th person to do so, but he very graciously thanked me, and even gave me a slight bow. Based off that alone, he is now my favorite since Avi left.
Ear candy all throughout this cover. So many things to pick through. From the chords to the range they all just showcased. We know Scott has an incredible range, but to hear a little darker/richer tone coming out of Mitch was a nice surprise. Matt killing it on lead and then ending it with a basement bass note. Kirsty also shows off her lower register. Kevin held it down with being that extra voice to allow them to come at us with those incredible chords. One of their best covers, ever!!! Great reaction.
I’m loving this song the more I hear it. Scott KILLED it at the climax of the song! The build was incredible. They are SO AMAZING!!
Why am I just now discovering this channel? New sub now! Great reaction - and yes, Kirstie does look right through you at the end there (it's not the first time she's done that). What makes this version so moving, I think, is the background chords. Bass fifths in some places, and what sounds like woodwinds in others. Just stunning. And then there's Mitch and Matt harmonizing. And Kevin goes almost unnoticed, but if you listen carefully you can hear him hitting some incredible high harmonies. That fifth voice makes a big difference. I've heard that some people don't really care for this recording, but for me this is one of their most powerful. I've listened to this probably a dozen or more times so far, and I still can't get all the way through without tearing up a bit.

Hey radical Brad! How ya doin'? Just when I think Pentatonix couldn't sustain the same ELITE level as their most recent EP, they put out this brilliant & beautiful rendition of "Mad World!" Their musical acumen never drops off and becomes complacent because they always are on top of their game: PTX continues to be inspiring and impressive!
The combination of Matt and Mitch(Match?) sounds great! The ones walking behind them are their own images, so if Mitch is singing it's his image that's walking behind him and so forth. Great reaction as always , Be well and stay safe my friend.

5:13... the Mitch face!!! YES!! Signature PTX! The wall of sound!! The intricate harmonies!! The silence break!! The surprises!! Mitch’s strong lower register! Phenomenal! Mitch & Matt brought spectacular harmonies the likes of which we’ve never heard so clearly before! Also I heard those beautiful bell tones like in New Rules! Now... let’s talk about the shadows of each member walking behind them when they sang... did you notice at some point they started walking backwards? Interesting.
I love the lower registers on this one - I find that way more powerful . Their ranges are just ridiculous. Matt is just outstanding - I think it would have been very difficult for him not to smile throughout this one haha... They all look stunning and sound more amazing than ever. Dark, lush, haunting, luminous. Did you notice that after Kirsten sings "When people run in circles, it's a very, very mad world," the figures behind them start walking backward? I love that.
I feel sorry to those who can relate to this song, I am 79 years old and I look forward to each day, new friends and old friends, new places to see new places to go watching a beautiful sunset, looking up at all the stars have too much fun to feel sorry for things I have no control over.

Happy birthday week, Brad! My birthday was yesterday, the 18th, which was also the day that I first listened to PTX's "Mad World," which says "happy birthday" but with so much irony.
I felt the same way watching it on my birthday on the 19th.

It almost has a 90’s Michael Jackson-style arrangement. Very reminiscent of Earth Song. I prefer the bleakness of the Gary Jules cover and the paranoia of the Tears For Fears original, but PTX’s interpretation has a hopefulness to it that is refreshing.

The Shadow People walking behind PTX are the artist. Scott has Scott walking behind him. Kirsten has Kirsten behind her. The same with Mitch, Matt, and Kevin. As the song is progressing, the Shadow People are erasing as the walking footage is reversed. Spooky.
Yep. I have to say this is my absolute FAVORITE since Matt joined. Love this one - the visual, the chords and harmonies, all of it.

The movements in the background are supposed to be reminiscent of the movie "Donnie Darko". Because the song came from this film.
The Donnie Darko version (2001) is a cover. Tears for Fears released it in 1982/3 or so. It is a very 80s sounding song in the original, PTX has made it sound absolutely new.

That's the second day in a row that someone has mentioned Vocal Point ! One of the commentors on a PTX video reaction said yesterday that he had a family member in one of the other groups when PTX were on the Sing Off and I asked him which group and he said Vocal Point ! - I said yesterday that I want to check them out ! So thank you for mentioning them and also to David Vaughn for letting me know about them also !!
