There is a great line in a song from the Schembechler Years. It simply went: "We could sense the man's honesty when he called us all his friends." Bo was a man of his word, and one of the highest integrity. As a Michigan fan, I couldn't be more proud to have our wonderful program associated with a man who personified Michigan. God bless our mighty Wolverines and every young man and coach associated with the program. GO BLUE!
Bo, was a great super great coach and person, I hate when younger people mention well bo never won a national championship, Alabama and Clemson have different rules like juniors college football players, fifth year seniors, transfers, etc etc kicking football players out of the program
I will never forget this day. Bright and sunny but so cold. so many people there, young, old, students, people in wheelchairs... my daughter, then a toddler, playing in the stands and all the alumni singing, cheering, crying... a testament to the man's life and to all of our lives.
Amen Cisco.....I have a deep love for Michigan, and a deep respect for OSU....When college football lost Bo and Woody, a part of college football died. They made the game better, just as they formed young boys into men. GO BLUE!
I was born in New Jersey, live in Pennsylvania now, but ALWAYS a fan of the mighty Michigan Wolverines! What tradition, what history, what teamwork! To HELL with PSU and Paterno! Michgan FOREVER! Fritz Crisler, Bo Schembechler, Lloyd Carr! HAIL TO THE VICTORS, HAIL TO MICHIGAN!!
I attended the memorial in 2006 and it made me proud to be a lifelong Michigan fan and alumnus. I watched it because I wanted to hear the story about Carr almost becoming the Defensive Coordinator of Notre Dame.
Did you watch the address by Coach Carr? I don't know if it was in part one or two, but if you watch the whole thing, you will hear the great story about his almost becoming the Defensive Coordinator of Notre Dame in the early 80s.
It probably was either when Lou Holtz was hired at Notre Dame in 1986 or after Foge Fazio left as Defensive Coordinator after the 1987 season. Barry Alvarez ended up getting the job as DC for 1988 and 1989 before leaving for Wisconsin.
