Singling out Dave in that respect borders on the absurd.
Unless you’re prepared to start your list with The Beach Boys, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones - who were all following the trail Chuck blazed at least a decade earlier than Edmunds or Lowe.

Here in Sweden we saw him play with our local musicians and they were blown away when he didnt tell them the songs and what key he played in, but it turned out well! He played with a local Swedish band "Jerry Williams and the Violent" who played at the Star Club in Hamburg and knew the Beatles.

@@chriscoughlin9289 Yeah but the Beatles, Stones & Beach Boys, as well as all being influenced by many 1950's RnR artists & styles, actually progressed musically .Chuck didn't influence that. Of course I respect Chuck Berry's incredible body of work from CHESS records. Everyone should.

They were lucky if he even told them what key the next song was going to be. There is a good clip from the early 60s in Europe. He's backed up by a jazz group and they seem to be able to keep pace. Also dig him and the Count Basie band in the film Jazz On A Summer Day.
