Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

For a culprit who was allowed to kill off a recurring character, there was something surprisingly campy about this guy. I remember getting a chuckle on how he never dropped the magician act and was ALWAYS being extra and doing magic tricks, not just when talking to the cops, but when he's - like - making illicit closed doors deals with mobsters. He's like a gimmick villain from Gotham city: a stage magic themed smuggler and murder.
The actor who plays The Magician is an actual Master Magician in real life. I kept wracking my brain trying to figure out where i heard this guy's voice before. Mentally hit myself in the head when I realized that this actor is the voice actor for Alistair in The Dragon Age game series. I couldn't figure that out as the actor changed his voice for me anyway to have a bit more of a younger innocent British accent when he was voicing Allister in the games which would makes since since that character was only about 20 years old.
Monk: *(Doesn’t test fake knife on Natalie but rather himself)*
Also Monk: *(Doesn’t test real knife on himself but rather Natalie)*
He could've tested it on the table.
Monk: How many magic tricks can you show us during one conversation?
Murderer magician: Yes
Seeing how he acts makes me want to see a heated argument between two married magicians
look him up on house you will love it.
Fun fact: Steve Valentine is a professional magician.
He really makes me understand the IT Crowd's bit on Jen dating the guy that 'looks like a magician'
Is that why he played a magician on house?
It is easier to cast a real prestidigitator who can act to olay one than creating tricks by editing or CGI (which will look artificial). So yes, when they need a good prestidigitor to perform tricks a lot, they ask actors with this abilities. They are among the special feature actors, like martial art practicionners, or contortionnist, special body shape, etc.
@@dafttassia1960 I was just about to day that then I found your comment.
oh, I see... saw him as a magician in house md too
Love how Natalie stands up for both Kevin and Mr Monk
Poor Kevin, one of my favorite guest characters. I was waiting for some sort of fakeout the entire episode.
Steve Valentine will always be the voice of Alistair from Dragon Age to me.
That can't be true.
Alistair hates magic users, there is no way he is secretly a magician behind the curtain.
I didn't figure that out as his voice sound much younger when he voiced Alistair which given that that character was only about 20 years old made sense. Also did start to plat dragon age until a few years ago.
This is one of my favorite episodes of Monk. For some reason I am still fascinated when he does all those tricks.
He in real life is a Master Magician and a voice actor. If you played the Dragon Age games he is the voice of Alistair. Took me forever to figure that out as when he is voicing Allister he changes his voice in my option to a younger more innocent British accent (yes i know the actor is British in real life) which would make sense since that character is only about 20 years old.
They need to add this back on Netflix.
Did anyone else take Kevin's death quite badly?
I did. He’s the only one that was ‘crazier’ than him and drove him nuts many times.
Why did the actor decide to leave?
Yes
I HATED Kevin Dorfman...
I did. I have trouble watching this episode because I felt so bad.
*R.I.P Kevin*
I was stunned when I first saw this episode:(
He was my favorite guest character😢
Its not real.
@@dealio1762 let me be sad abt fictional characters in peace pls😭😭
Its the magic guy from House!
The magician was also on “Psych” as Billy Lips the rockstar in the “100 Clues” episode.😊Another great example of “Psych” and “Monk” sharing actors.😉
I think he was also in "House" as a magician.
Steve Valentine (The magician) has appeared in many different shows and movies, most of them being as magicians because it's hard to find actors who are magicians acting like magicians while easier to find actors to act like magicians the problem is they don't look that good, so they bring him in.
Rockin Nuts
@@moonadon1 oh yeah...the guy who have Lupus
Not to mention a few disney channel roles
I always thought that Monk wouldn't be fooled by magic tricks, considering how great of a detective and how closely he pays attention to everything...
I guess I was wrong lol
He's easy to scare
I agree. However, this guy is a professional and one of the best magicians as they said in the episode, so he can even get past Monk, but like everyone else, he still got caught 🙂
@@Divvy21 Even someone that's the best at what they do is no match for Monk.
The purpose of the body of the plot is to build tension by showing how difficult the case is, because the facts are strange or because the criminal is very intelligent. Having Monk see through the magic tricks would make the magician appear to be less capable than Monk, which would lower the tension.
I’m a big fan of Steve valentine. Loved him in Crossing Jordan. His voice is fantastic, as hero or villain, or Shakespeare actor.
I knew some magician. The pure guy was killed by his mentee...
😬
The three best detectives in the world, gathered at last.
The crossover we all needed
The pure guy? You mean the poor guy? Max Dyson?
Monk is the only series that i have bought completely so far. I am sad, that it already ended, but it had one of the most beautiful endings that i can wish myself for Mr. Monk.
R.I.P. Trudy

i love this
Adrian Monk, one of the smartest people in the world... _tests to see if a knife is fake or not by stabbing himself and his assistant_
Is this the same magician from House?
Was going to say the same thing
Ye, and the same from the wizards of waverly place movie xD
Valentine also played a forensic doctor on "Crossing Jordan".
Yes
Talk about type cast lol
I've seen Steve Valentine in only three things (I don't really watch TV): This clip, a clip of "House," and the "Wizards of Waverly Place" movie. He plays a magician in all three.
And I have to say, even when I know how he's doing a trick in the clip, I can't actually see him do it. Which goes to show how being a good magician is at least as much about the skill as it is about knowing how to do the trick.
@Pegasus. Valentine started his career as a magician. Thats how he got into acting since 1995. He has been seen in films such as Mars Attacks!, Teen Beach Movie, and Avalon High. He was a main cast member on Crossing Jordan, and has guest-starred on such shows as House M.D., Monk, Just Shoot Me, Will and Grace, Dharma & Greg, and Charmed.
@@Tealcorvette Thanks, Tealcorvette!
You can sign up for magic classes on his website.
@@Tealcorvette He also voice Alistair in Dragon Age as well
Also he voice Alstiar in the Game Dragon Age
The Magician episode is one of my favorites. It’s cool seeing all those magic tricks that Mr. Monk sees before his very eyes. The Great Torini, also the Killer, is very slim in a way, but I say... Too Slim. 😉
Alistair is a mage? No wonder he left the Templars for the Gray Wardens! And he probably secretly thinks swooping is good, too!
(See: Dragon Age: Origins. Edit to fix spelling)
Took me forever to figure that out as didn't get into Dragon age until a few years ago and didn't put 2 and 2 together. When was voicing Alstair he changed his voice just enough that i couldn't place it and i also never really watched much tv in the 2000s or any of the other shows that he was on. But i did know that he was a Master Magician.
Monk should’ve learned how to deal with a magician from Mr.Bean.
I don't get this reference, but I want to.
The one dislike must be from dale the whale
When will killers realize that it's super shady to be hundreds of miles away and make that very specifically timed phone call right before someone dies?
3:50 That frame when you can see his eyes lighted by the flames like some kind of demon.
3:49
could you upload more clips where monk does heres what happened? those are my favoritesss
Except Monk wouldn't have been fooled by any of this. Most magicians' tricks are designed to work specifically on with neurotypical psychology, and Monk is probably on the autistic spectrum. He wouldn't be looking where the magician expects him to look, and his attention wouldn't be drawn to the same things. While some of the illusions would work, Monk's laserlike focus wouldn't be distracted the same way normies are. He certainly wouldn't be confused or impressed by simple misdirection.
Monk can also be intimidated by strong personalities very easily, which also distracts him.
He was also in Disney XD Im in the Band. Where in one episode he did some magic tricks
He was also in House MD
^ he did magic on house too lol
@@rohangangan8327 I know but alot of people wrote that and I never watched it. I’ve watched Im in the band
@@rohangangan8327 i remember him. He has Lupus and everyone in the hospital are like finaly
I used to watch him on Watching Jordan, also in house.
I always thought, wouldn't he be leaving the impression of his writing on the other sheets that he wrote on top of? Just grab the notebook and run off.
One Of Monk’s saddest cases besides Trudy’s doesn’t matter if it ruins the effect it’s part of the case your not bleeding and just fine you deserved 0:10
I just realised the same actor played the same role i.e. magician in House MD (Season 4, ep 5 or 6). Wow
That's true...
It’s also Derek from I’m in the band
@Robi_CK. Valentine was magician before acting. That's his thing. Since 1995, he has been seen in films such as Mars Attacks!, Teen Beach Movie, and Avalon High. He was a main cast member on Crossing Jordan, and has guest-starred on such shows as House M.D., Monk, Just Shoot Me, Will and Grace, Dharma & Greg, and Charmed. Much more, but its all because of his love & talent for 'Magic'.
Why have I never seen this episode omg
Idkk I seen this
I Love You Steve Valentine ❤
0:11 Monk legit "stabbed" Natalie with a knife. Also 2:48 Love the speech and how sad were you guys when they killed off Kevin?
just finished watching Tinkerbell, only to come on here, and see this clip :D
I love monk lol 😂😂 my family does not :D
I miss monk when it used to broadcast on ion television. Watched the entire show with my dad on there when I was younger. All the murders were so unique. Now all the new murder shows are just dark with the same rinse and repeat formula for their episodes. Just a simple but boring stabbing or shooting case.
I can't not picture Alistair from Dragon Age when I hear his voice
House M.D.: finally, we have a case of Lupus
It's old but never gets old.
I wouldn't have the patience for this, my trick would be making his nose magically bleed with the mystical powers of my fist
You and me both.
you are no fun
I always like watching Steve Valentine.
THIS ISN'T MONK EXPLAINING HOW THE KILLER DID IT.
I can never forgive the man who killed Kevin Dorfman.
Didn't this same guy play a magician on House MD? Is he a professional magician?
I don’t know
@@charlotteginis I just looked him up, he is pro magician. He swallows a key during a trick, in a House episode and almost dies from it.
Yes he did lol... Am not sure if he is professional though
@Shreyas Surve. YES he is magician. He started acting career based on talent in magic tricks. Since 1995 he has been seen in films such as Mars Attacks!, Teen Beach Movie, and Avalon High. He was a main cast member on Crossing Jordan, and has guest-starred on such shows as House M.D., Monk, Just Shoot Me, Will and Grace, Dharma & Greg, and Charmed.
This man is always either a magician (House and Monk) or rockstar (Psych and that Disney show I can't rem)
He is a Master Magician in real life and a Voice Actor. He voice Alistair in Dragon AGe.
He played Nigel in Crossing Jordan and worked in the morgue. Excellent there too
is he the same guy who played magician on house md?
This is that Charlie D'amelio talking while dancing energy with illusionism.
Hmmm I now want to see him play Roger Retinz (sp) in a live action adaptation of Phoenix Wright. (The smug killer magician not Tony Shalhoub)
It's nice to see monk being a little goofy.
This dude was the magician that was dying in one episode of Dr House
Abracadorfman!
3:49 No Mr. Monk, don’t! It’s a trick! 😆 🕵🏻♂️👩🏼V 🪄 😉
Is that the guy who killed Monks chatty neighbor?
Yes.
@@Dharmon1 I liked that guy, even his corny jokes
Yep Kevin the Goat Dorfman
can anyone explain to me why the magician arm and finger were bleeding? or was it paint? never realized til recently.
3:48
I feel like he only let them come over just so he could show off.
Oh hey he’s the va for alistair from dragon age
Is flash paper really that easy to set off?
Abracadorphman
Monk with daggers
He doesn't even take the first page.
It took me 5 watches to follow the coin in his hands 😅
Wasn't he also a magician in House M.D. ?
wtf how did he cut himself anyone else notice that? he was holding a paper then the next second he is holding a white cloth cleaning blood off his arm and in the closeup you can see some real wet blood on his hand.
I don't trust magicians...
Hey Psych
I really want to see the here is what happened version of this episode
abradakabra monk
Lovely Natalie ..
He sound like Alister from Dragon Age
That's because he IS Alistair from Dragon Age
But something that I don’t think got answered in the episode. Why did he kill Kevin??
It was covered. Kevin figured out he was bringing something back every trip because his bags were heavier.
I didn’t know Flynn was a wizard
Steve valintine been on all my favorites crossing Jordan to start then Monk Psych Chuck.
This guy also play a dying magician in House MD.
❤
Where's the rest
this guy was on house
Wasnt this magician in an episode of house?
he is also a magician in house
This looks like the guy that was a magician on House. Same guy?
they cut a shot i was wondering why he was wiping blood off his arm and had some on his hand watch the room to the left as the guy is writing the confession look on a table you will see a knife or a saw with blood on a cloth under it they must have thought the trick was to much for younger viewers and had to cut it without reshooting it hence why the blood was still on him.
He was also a magician in House,
Woah, last time I was this early....
I actually want to see this one.
He was also a magician on House
House finally got his case of lupus 😁
@Ryan Vergara. Thats because thats his talent. Valentine is a magician first and foremost! How he got started in acting about 1995.
If he's such a great "magician", why is all his tricks from the "My first box of magic" for 6 year olds? No wonder he got caught. That was pretty lame.
Didn't he invent the zig zag cabinet himself?
@@diehardrvdfan22 Lol no. That was invented in 1965, by a magician called Robert Harbin. So again, a magic trick older than my mother in law. And that's really old. She was born before color was invented, which probably explains her evil, dark personality.
Kevin is dead :day_ruined:
Isn’t this guy also in house
Show off
Natalie and Monk should have been written as a slow romance ending with a marriage
No
Yeah no... That would be weird
That would be absolutely awful oh, that's like having his magical transformation at the end of the show be that he suddenly doesn't have OCD anymore, you don't just fix things that are difficult because they're uncomfortable, especially in a show like Monk
They have good chemistry as friends, not as actual physical affection.
I would give that marriage two years max.
This show is so phoney.
