In the .exe version Luigi has no nose, and in the .smc version he still remains his nose.
And luigi is definitely more bloody in the .exe version
and in exe luigi's hat is an little destroyed, on rom hack not.

As polished as the hack version is, the .exe version will always be more unsettling to me because of the ending. Mario weeping over his brother's demise is incredibly heart-breaking and sets a genuinely despairing tone over the whole matter. The rom hack, however, kind of ruins that mood with the whole battle and flinging him into the lava with the cape. Mario doesn't even look fazed at the end of that one! That was a deal breaker for me.

No offense but . Rom hack is better with horror in a lot of things . Marios that drowned and start chasing you . Background change and bowser cave change to start criying blood . The exe one has shitty memes , forgot to put water on a part of the level , he has cringe game maker basic dialogue , the sprites seem pretty weird . And i cant forgot about that song at the end that isnt even sacry compared to the rom hack

@@xxmradioxx6077 I HATE YOU! was originally created to poke fun at Creepypasta's, it makes sense .EXE version has memes. It was just such a good story it developed a following.
The .smc version was also more accurate with the Thwomp section; the .exe version had them behave like normal Thwomps while the .smc version had them pounding randomly and erratically like the original story described.

I remember finding gameplay of this creepypasta many years ago when creepypastas were still really recent, but I never knew the other version had a megaman like fight (mostly the health bar but yeah). I personally prefer this version despite it's small flaws.
Fun fact: the song you can hear upon modifying the ending song of the ROM is the Hong Kong 97 theme, just cut off more earlier than where HK97 cut it off

mixing some of the differences in each version would have probably helped imo. since most people dont like cheap jumpscares (and i personally have a negative reaction to them), the mushroom starting you over instead is the better go-to. but the ending for the .exe version is a lot better than the hack, mainly because of the drawn-out fight in the hack making it a lot less unsettling and the way the .exe version comes to a close (i.e, mario lamenting over what he had to do and the luigi at the end title card being a lot more disturbing in appearance)
The ending musik of the Hack version are the first 3 or 4 words from the song "i love beijing tiananmen" from the game Honk kong 97 just backwards, slower and pitched down.
You'll be hearing that in your DREAMS.
It remember me the joke hack "Diagonal Mario and the Ultimate Meme Machine" which use the same music for overworld map

Well it was pretty much a reference.
The health bar has been literally ripped from Megaman X with few changes like the colors and the Sigma Symbol and X being replaced by M and L
What the creator needs to do is make the ROM hack more faithful to the source material, but keep the MMX styled battle as a secret or extra.
That is not as easy as you think.
For example, the jumpscares.
They're possible to add into the ROM hack but it is very hard to do so.

Jumpscares are cheap and this jumpscare is even more retarded for using "spooky" images of things that are absolutely not related to Mario. It is basically the most stupidest jumpscare a 14 year old can make.

In my opinion .smc version is better. Sure you can't move in all of the map like you can the original super Mario world and you're just confined to one location but it's really good because it recreates more than you could've done on the EXE it was really good it felt very good and it was better because you can't replicate all of what was in the EXE version that you can do on the actual super Mario world SNES ROM but besides that but I'm saying is you can't replicate everything on a game maker and you use the original game it makes it better. Even though there are some hardware limitations the game is still very good and it will be remembered as a good re-creation of a dumb-ish creepy pasta
And the .smc version stays more true to the story, and has no jumpscares!
Not KingHelix Well, the .exe in terms of story is actually more accurate to the creepypasta (Mario entering the castle, Luigi jumping on Mario, Mario crying). The .smc version however is indeed also better in other elements (blood bowser, invincibility, Mario's following you). And the Mario vs Luigi fight is actually very original, so I do think the .smc is better! Too bad the ending picture on the .smc version can't be more accurate to the story though (well he looks bad enough on that anyway, wugh....)

I remember watching this game like 6 or 5 years ago, but when the weird mushroom was collected, a jumpscare appeared, at the time I was a kid and I didn't knew what a jumpscare was, so guess what happened when the jumpscare appeared...

I still remember finding this video on UA-cam when i was a child. I must tell, it gave me years of nightmares, and I couldn't even look at Mario without getting shivers anymore. It also made me love this creepypasta to this day, even though it's just so simple, and a concept that looks like something even a 5 year old could come up with.

It seems like the smc is more well made and has more character, and also just had more polish in general, also, jumpscares either work, or REALLY don't work, (it's the latter)
Exe doesn't have battle but it does show that Mario is not evil, both are good in their own ways

Playing the ending backwards doesn’t really give you anything, there’s no secret message. It seems to be a pitched down version of another part of the sound track.
