Grew up on the outskirts of atl and when we would play inner city atl bands this is exactly what would happen. I wanted to go to HBCU for this reason, their bands were just soooo good!
Years ago I was in St Louis and I saw a Battle of the Bands going on. It was amazing. I’d never seen/heard anything like it. I stood there for hours watching it.
As a New Orleans native and USED TO observe parades YOU KNOW WHEN THAT BLACK BAND COMES THROUGH THEY ROCK THE WHOLE HOUSE AND YOU FEEL IT THROUGH YOUR GUTS
That’s what I loved about my high school lmao. Our band director was a big white dude who was a director at a predominantly black school before coming to ours and it changed football games altogether! We went from barely having a band at all to being 1st division across the board in concert and marching season in just 2-3 years. And goooooood damn were our stands lit 😂

We played against a historically black highschool the other night and not only did they PUMMEL our football team, they also sounded and looked so much cooler than us during their show 😭😭😭
As a former band kid with a white band, I can't tell you how excited we get to see these kids in the black band groups doing their thing. We know how hard it is to be coordinated enough to do what we're doing so to see people taking it up 10 notches and killing it is freaking awesome. Really inspirational and so much work.

The marching band I was in was HBCU-inspired, and it was probably one of the most fun times I've ever had in my life. The music, the dancing, breakdowns, the training... everything about it... high school was so much fun because of it!

I was going to MEPS in Montgomery, AL. The night before we stayed in a hotel so first thing in the morning we could get on a bus and go. Well it just so happened, that night, the college marching band was in that area. They had the whole block partying, smoking, drinking, eating bbq.. An amazing night.

As someone who goes to a majority white school who just played a game against a majority black school, this is true. We collectively lost our shit when the whole band started twerking while playing. Honestly super impressive, and their dance moves were amazing, just had never seen that before.

I was going to MEPS in Montgomery, AL.
The night before we stayed in a hotel so first thing in the morning we could get on a bus and go. Well it just so happened, that night, the college marching band was in that area. They had the whole block partying, smoking, drinking, eating bbq.. An amazing night.
One time at a competition with 99% mostly white bands, a mostly black band performed and they were not only the best vibe musically but their color guard/dancers were INSANE. Couldn't stop watching
