How to Sink A Tugboat ... Do Not Try This at Home

- It is harder then one might think when trying to sink a ship intentionally. Vessels are engineered to float and will fight to do so. It took over two years to prepare this tugboat for sinking and she fought to stay afloat up to the very last minute.
In this case we purposefully scuttled two vessels to create marine habitat and a new fishing and scuba diving location accessible when visiting Jacksonville Florida. The vessels were rigorously cleaned to an environmentally sound condition and sunk at a permitted artificial reef zone offshore the coast. Both this tugboat, and the other vessel scuttled, landed upright on the sea floor 90 feet below.
All sorts of fish and marine we make these newly sunken ships their home in a short period of time. Make sure to visit the Jacksonville Florida region to experience these offshore destinations first hand.
Thumbnail photo of the tugboat sinking was captured by Keith Mille of the FWC and was slightly edited for UA-cam display.
Can’t wait to try this at home
Hahahaha well said
U cant cuz ur house is not water😂
No he can wait he's excited to sank a tugboat
@@Marker_Kit746 bruh
ok funny ig
Thanks for the reminder, I won’t sink my tugboat at home now!
You can’t because your house is not water 😂
@@M3lon-cat14 what if he does and he means YOUR BOAT
@@M3lon-cat14 what if he has a cottage
@@M3lon-cat14 This was a Dutch tugboat, they certainly have houses on water there so perhaps they can
Cancence was sinking hey you you are a liar
“Do not try this at home”
Like i have a whole entire ocean in my home
Worked perfectly fine for me. I have a sink
@oneandzero6251 you have to buy a model ship then.
Who doesn’t? My ocean is super clean, because I have been preparing to sink a Titanic replica in it.
Nah like you would have an entire tug boat lmao
It was tough to watch. Tug Engineer 38 yrs. I worked tug Celtic for two yr's. A year after I got off, it went down in a storm in Long Island Sound, off South Norwalk in 80 ft. of water and took the whole crew with it/ Cap. Charles Markey, Mate Donal Magowen, Chief Norman Parish, Deckhand Paul Chartrand, and a new man didn't know.
Went down so fast that nobody could get off?
Did it go down fast or slow and did it have lifeboats?🤨

So sad Bro.
Sounds bad but this is so much more gratifying to watch than a planned sinking. Thanks for posting. 👍🏻
If I lived in a tugboat I definitely wouldn't want to try this at home.
🤦♂️
Definitely trying this at home.
My God that is really cool! I’m really interested in shipwrecks since I watched the Titanic movie. I’m gonna make a little experiment of that lol.
The plant inside the funnel makes it hilarious to watch
lol
Great job Joe! Looks like you’ve been busy!
Thanks Brooks. Hope to fill you in on the entire project soon.
"Don't try this at home" do you think I can sink a ship at home?
I mean you can sink a toy boat
Crazy guys. Lol
😅
Imagine doing this on land...
Yea..
Good question o guess…
You cant
Island: Noooooo!
Quick sand will do itt
thanks for clarifying to not try this at home, my mum would be pissed if i destroyed the bathtub...
Ah yes, I will remember to not sink my personal tugboat
Rest In Peace and God bless you, Jimmy Dales
Cant wait to for the summer to put my kids in basement on that tugboat
Instructions unclear. There is now a half-buried tugboat in my backyard.
very nice👍
That was epic dude
was a fantastic project to be a part of
“Don’t try this at home.” Like I have a tugboat and an ocean outside in my backyard
Great video! Though, a shame they didn't put GoPros deeper into the ship, in the corridors and engine room. That would've been even more interesting.
Thanks. We wanted the cameras to be as safely accessible to divers as possible wanted to avoid underwater diver penetrations into the vessel.
The tugboat seems a bit old, it looks deserted and it's abandoned. No other co-workers ever try to tow it away so they can try to repainted and remodeled it one.
It even had grass growing in its funnel
@@nyotamwuaji6484 Oh sorry never mind it is grass growing in the smokestack
If you do this again could you show the interior flodding ? That sort of thing interests a lot of people
I'm pretty sure buying a tug boat costs alot.
Probably didn't want to dive all the way down into the tugboat and risk damaging equipment or themselves to retreive the cameras.
@@TimDaOne The video includes footage from those same cameras. Usually tugboats are sunk like this to create reefs for fish, in shallow enough waters for diving.
@@daveahlers Yes, but they didn't go inside. Having your scuba gear ripped open by a piece of metal is not cool
I know right? If I wanted to watch a ship sink from the outside I could buy a model and sink it.
Nice
"do not try this at home"
"Hey siri, how do i fit a tug boat in my hou-"
Don’t try it at home try it at sea😎
The sun is sleeping quietly
Once upon a century
Wistful oceans calm and red
Ardent caresses laid to rest
For my dreams I hold my life
For wishes I behold my night
The truth at the end of time
Losing faith makes a crime
I wish for this night-time
To last for a lifetime
The darkness around me
Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you
Sorrow has a human heart
From my god it will depart
I'd sail before a thousand moons
Never finding where to go
Two hundred twenty-two days of light
Will be desired by a night
A moment for the poet's play
Until there's nothing left to say
I wish for this night-time
To last for a lifetime
The darkness around me
Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you
I wish for this night-time
To last for a lifetime
The darkness around me
Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you
You just had to huh
Sounds bad but this is so much more gratifying to watch than a planned sinking. Thanks for posting. 👍🏻
I know a dude who did this in Florida I think. he's from Minnesota. Hans is his name. He showed me a scrap book from the company he used to run. had to declare bankruptcy unfortunately around 2008.
Reminds me of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Is it common to sink ships because recycling them would be too expensive and not worth it?
In cases where vessels are sunk to create marine habitat, it is determined the resulting benefits (including environmental and recreational) outweigh the potential reuse value of the ship frame as repurposed metal for future manufacturing.
@@uwjax i understand, thank you for the answer.
Wait so I can get my little boat and sink it?
Thankgod you just warned me Not to do it at home. I was thinking of Sinking my Personal Tugboat in my Personal Indian Ocean in the backyard.
It seems like a waste of resources but it's look sure fun. I think I will follow the do not try this at home sign
Could anyone tell me what does Vgnore mean?
Thats a great way to get rid of dead car battery's
Too late I already sank a tug in my bathtub, which made the drain hole a little bigger, nothing a larger plug won't cure. PS I get a sinking feeling when recycling could be an option.
The vessel was recycled to create marine habitat and an underwater destination.
I'm glad ye olde tug went to a good cause.👴
hold on let me go grab the tugboat i have sitting in my closet
I’ve never actually given any thought to sinking my tugboat! I like my tugboat!
Sounds bad but this is so much more gratifying to watch than a planned sinking. Thanks for posting. 👍🏻
Well, I was going to sink my tugboat at home, but this video persuaded me not to!
I think i shed try this on the voyager of the sea
I'v try't but I can't get de boat in the room !!
Funny title of the decade perhaps..'do not try this at home '.
Legend says the GoPros are still resting at the bottom of the ocean
Haha no they were recovered after the sinking by divers. Otherwise we would not have been able to recover the sink cam footage shown in the video. We welded custom mounting platforms to the hull in various locations to mount the cameras. Part of the design considerations was to make it simple for divers to recover the cameras.
@@uwjax How deep is it? Have you checked these what's living in it now? Should have put some rocks in it for natural cover for the sea life. Just my opinion. What do I know. That feels like a bad omen. Watching any ship sink.
How did u find your gopros?
special camera mounts were designed and welded to the vessel in various locations with the intention of making it simple to remove them via scuba divers.
Quepaso para que se undiera
Jimmy dales last name is my familys name😊
Did you buy a tug boat to sink it?
can't wait to sink a ton of steel in the shape of a ship in my home
''do not try this at home'' how i sink a tugboat on my house?
yeah i think trying to sink a tugboat at home would be bad id do it the the ocean....
How deep is it?

They should have given this one to Seattle and taken the one that recently went down.😊

Life could be dream
Aww, I was just about to sink my boat in the sea just above my pineapple home :(
Poor tugboat, after a life of hardship and unsung praise ends up int bottom on the sea.
Unless it’s in a pool
0:29 With ENGINE?? SO SAD 😢😢😢😭😭😭
ikr!!
Yeh don't do this at home kids ☺️
Why do u have grass inside your exhaust?…
The plants grew naturally as the tug sat dormant several years in a shipyard.
Remember, tugboats aren't toys
yea I knew i was saving that tugboat in my backyard for something let me go sink it right quick
why can’t i sink my tug boat in my pool ?
I DONT WANT MY TOY SHIP TO SINK LIKE THAT
of course i can't do this at home....the pools not big enough pppppphhhhhtttttthhhhhahahaaahhahahahahhahlloloololloolololol🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
how can you sink a ship in a home
Грустное зрелище.
зачем их топить только не пойму??
Oh boy can't wait to get into my pool at home and fit my huge titanic ship to sink. Wait what this....
Well my house just sank with it
How to Sink A Tugboat ... Do Not Try This at Ocean
Why would you sink it it would of brought good scrap money just curious
The value brought from creating the marine habitat far outweighed the potential scrape metal value.
At home?
Kind of sad to watch as if the boat has a life, hope it find a new life and some good company on the sea floor❤
See what it looks like now in our update video ua-cam.com/video/tNQayezOnQg/v-deo.html
She now capsized
the vessel sits upright on the sea floor. Check out the longer version video of this project on this channel.
How to sink a tugboat at home?
Don't try this at home, bro you can't even fit one in and how will it sink on land?
but theres no sea at home
P.O.V:you realize that this was the exact tug boat that pulled the titanic and that the government were looking for it……
IDK what you talkin about but WHO THE HELL HAS A TUGBOAT AT HOME and who has a FRICKIN OCEAN INSIDE HIS HOUSE
Wadte if materials
everything has an end
it was just a new beginning for this vessel. See it now ua-cam.com/video/tNQayezOnQg/v-deo.html
Why
Why sink it?
To create marine habitat and an underwater destination.
Arongs..
“Do not try this at home”
Of course we can’t cause how can we fit the tug boat outside our house
I will try this in the seas.
Thanks bro now I will know not to do it in my kiddy pool
Do not try this at home? Why would I have a tugboat at my house
What if you did this on a cruise ship!😳😳😳😳😳
nothing would happen
Cruise ships ate too big to be sunk witg little water
That was the wrong boat. You were suppose to sink the one next to it.
We did
Well of course you can't try this at home you have to go to the boat dock.
Bro ya i have tug boats at my house i will not tey this
Man that's creepy.. lol
What no you l texture
