    Thanks for sharing Damian, very similar to the process I went thro' and similar original speaker condition, though I also took the whole door card off, not just the speaker access sub panel! I'm now used to removing the door panels tho' dreaded this the first time given the inevitable loss of one or more fir tree fixings (of which I now have a supply!). I restored the original cloth covering as backing had disintegrated to dust, degraded foam and plastics is probably the biggest challenge out here given our strong sun/heat in Queensland although of course rust is not an issue, no winter to speak of and/or road salt!!
    Take care, your content is just getting better and better!

      Dave, thanks for taking the time to comment and share your experiences. Started to look at the door window rattle and before you know it having to change all the speakers. That’s the XK8 for you. Sounds like you have similar but slightly different challenges due to the weather in Australia. Thanks for the input and comment regards Damian

    Don't know what you guys have over there but over in the states we have Crutchfield that, if nothing else, has a web page that will tell you what speakers will fit our cars in each position. There are many choices and a coax is certainly an improvement too. The favorite glue all the speaker rebuilders use for gluing up things like that foam is, surprisingly, just a common household hobby glue called Aleene's Original Tacky Glue. We get it at Walmart for about $2 for a 4 oz bottle. I also wouldn't be surprised if there are kits available to replace the surrounds on these.

      Andork, thanks for the information about Crutchfield and the glue. Much appreciated regards Damian

    This was so useful thanks. I wish you'd gone for a slightly better pair of replacement speakers though.

      @@ODRModurol old Philips speaker removed (same condition as yours was), new speakers purchased (run of the mill Sony). Now big question, to cut the plug or as you did, try to remove Jaguar socket and fit to new speaker. Hmmm

      Good question originality ?

      @@ODRModurol I went for easier option of removing the sockets from the Philips speakers and soldering them to the short wire connectors that came with the new speakers and just tucked all inside the door. Saved trying to attach to new speakers and retains the original plug and socket. I must search for the audio wiring diagrams you used, very useful. I would like to migrate it to a premium set up in stages. Thanks again for your brilliant videos and your time.

    Another excellent video, thanks! I’m guessing the Harmon Kardon speakers are only single cone because there are dedicated tweeters elsewhere? I bet the sound quality of the new speakers is so much better than the old ones (with their US cones) that you’re not bothered about the smaller magnets, either. A great tip on reusing the signal connector, too. Again, many thanks!

      Nick, you are correct there are tweakers and mid ranges speakers elsewhere. I will do a video showing the premium additional speakers shortly. Didn’t think there was a problem before I took the door apart but the new speakers are much more crisp and clear sound. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

    Excellent video Damian.
    I will use it as reference when I get to swapping my speakers. I was also thinking a non cardboard cone was a good idea for my combo of convertible and uk weather. Just done the speakers on the xj and had to pay more for 2nd hand speakers than for your new ones. ( fully integrated into the plastic bespoke mounting on the xj)
    Stay safe pal👍

      John, I think in this case technology hasn’t advance so much that the 25 year old stuff is inferior. Still need a speakers with big magnets and ideally separate components. Look forward to watching more Jaguar videos. Keep up the good work, regards Damian

    Do you know that you can buy replacement speaker foam in many different sizes? It’s also very cheap!

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 роки тому

      Rory, yes I do and cover that in a later video in my series. Unfortunately, I didn’t realise how good the original speaker were until it was too late. Mistake already made assumed wrongly new tech speakers would automatically be better. Lesson learnt. Thanks for the input and comment regards Damian

    Have you experienced an issue with the speaker cover getting wet from water sitting on the threshold?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  4 місяці тому

      @Camrocok, No I haven't have that issue. There should be water deflectors, plastic sheets inside the door to avoid the rain causing issues. The defectors can often get damaged during the removal of the door card etc. Some people remove them rather than repair them. We did a video covering the deflectors, see link below. Hope that helps, regards Damian

      I think the water is coming from the door seals and sitting on the thresholds and then soaking up into the speaker covers

    Thank you for the videos. I'm replacing the front speakers in my 1997 XK8. The speakers have been replaced previously and the wires were cut. I have a orange and a pinkish wire. Do you know which is the positive wire ? Thank you

      @ODRModurol  3 роки тому

      Mel, According to the 1999 wiring diagrams Pink (K) is positive and Orange (O) negative. See page 14 for the codes and 64 for the wiring diagram on this link. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1IkUjTiD1gmNcwScUIf8f1vNcFpfxPsKk

    Does anybody know what the original “base” triple cone speakers RMS rating was? Or where I could find the specs?
    Thanks in advance

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 роки тому

      Mick, don’t know to be honest. The US supplier Crutchfield offers 60watt RMS speakers as direct replacements. www.crutchfield.com/p_206DSC6504/Kicker-43DSC6504.html?tp=105 Expect the OEM speakers to be a similar or lower rating. Hope that helps, thanks Damian

    Hi Damian, just got around to changing my door speakers due to distortion in sound. Hoping new speakers will be the answer. However, I note that you indicate that the Premium Speakers are Harman/Kardon LJA4140BA’s. My door speakers are Philips single cone LNA4140BA’s, which are neither of the ones you illustrate. I am now confused as to whether the door speakers are Premium or Base. Can you help?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 роки тому

      Doug, Interesting the Philips are definitely the base speaker brand as the premium where H/K and Alpine. Most likely someone’s already changed them for the same part number regardless of the brand. Do you have speakers in the dash and tweeters in the door? Remove the covers to double check if you have a premium setup. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

      @@ODRModurol Hi Damian, these speakers were supplied at manufacture as they have ever been out of the car. Perhaps the later cars (mine is 2005) had Philips premium's fitted rather than H/K or Alpine as they have a single cone rather than a triple cone. Any idea what watts they are?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 роки тому

      Doug, 2005 last of line👍. Not sure of the wattage of the individual speakers they are 4 ohm and I think replacements I used where circa 40 watt RMS per channel. Might be worth checking on this website. www.crutchfield.com/car/outfitmycar/mycar.aspx?g=400 Doesnt seem to be a direct replacement but lots of options. Heres what I tried ua-cam.com/video/j3mD6ShbOYk/v-deo.html Hope that helps, regards Damian

      Purchased exact replacements from Jaguar. These were LNA4140BA and were indicated 4 Ohms, 20 watts. They were indicated as Philips. In fact they had no manufacturer on them except the Jaguar leader and indicated ‘Made in Belgium’. Sounds better than the existing speakers, bearing in mind they had been in the car for 16 years!
