Kyosho Trail King Unboxing & First Run (I See A Monster Tank Build Coming)

- Here we go. I've got the starting block for my first RC Monster Tank build - the Kyosho Trail King. Out of the box it can tackle quite a bit of obstacles, but it is slow-especially when turning. It works off two small 370 brushed motors to drive two flexible plastic tracks. My plan is to make it brushless and figure out how to use mixing on my DX5 Rugged to control it. I think this would be a lot more fun as it is out of the box on dirt and sandy terrain. I'll probably get it out a few more times before I do my conversion.

Always loved these. Might have to get one. They look really fun.
I love it I’m excited to unboxed mine and play with it
Looks like a lot of fun. And has a lot of potential
That thing is unstoppable
That thing looks like a heck of a lot of fun! 😊
Nice. This has been on my to-buy list for months. The Mad Van body fits almost perfectly, which would make a helluva Monster Tank.
Nice monster tank. With the upgrades it'll be more fun to drive.
Cool stuff I love my Blizzard.
Might be pretty cool in the winters 🇨🇦
These things are awesome in the snow! Goes through deep snow like any other RC never could.
I'm pulling the trigger these are cool great review & run Tony, my upgrade plans are metal tracks & pullies, brushless, UMG crewcab body that's just laying around as my axial 6x6 is now a Chevy Goliath replica, I'll just shorten the bed on the trail king and bind it to my Spectrum Rugged transmitter love rc...
I bet that would be a blast in the snow I'm betting. Or sand would probably be awesome aswell.
Most definitely a whole lot of fun in the snow! Goes through deep snow like nothing else can.
Nice truck. Every time I see it run I think to myself should I 🤔. Doing a tank monster is going to be awesome!
It would be cool if you get a lot of snow. I only got mine to convert to a monster tank and hopefully race for fun
As much as I love kyosho this looks like a toy in my eyes just because i am a owner of a torro rc tank it looks really fun though. My tank is the torro t34 85. But i still love this channel
There is a lot going on with this thing. But I get that it's not everyone's favorite. For people who have long winters....it might be awesome
@@CCxRC Hm, could perhaps briefly try a pair of tamiya sport tuned 370 motors & see if they bring any extra performance at minimal cost.
@@CCxRC hi i am not saying it is bad. this is something i would buy for my little brother to git him in the hobby.
You may know, but Holmes Hobbies makes a brushless 370 motor 😁. Dual brushless with a van body... hhhhhhmmmmmmm, but also a HW 880 Dual would probably be an upgrade too, to start at least.
I think the tred is wide because it is based on that Snow Cat they made first. There are upgrade steel tracks I think would look killer.
You can put different body to put on the Trail King. Shen RC did that to his Blizzard with different body. Very cool.
Awsome sauce mate reminds me of my custom 6x6 videos super super cool loved the video had to subb:)))
Nice Tony def like the truck version better
I don't need a plow....
This is awesome 👍 back in the day growing up,I remember a Ford Aerostar that was a tracked monster truck?
Winter is coming...
and thinking about one of these...
think some Holmes Hobbies 380 brushless would tear it apart?
Nice vid T! My wife bought a blizzard used it for 5 mins then next time we tried one track doesn't move. Ditch that radio if you can for a pistol.
Well I know a possible next purchase hahaha
Very cool Tony. I still love the look of these trucks. Always wanted to go with an expedition style rig where it explores out in the wilderness, sort of thing. lol Thanks for sharing man.. Oh and Mental Note... Trimming tracks too narrow = constant track coming off.. Do you think? Thanks again bud and of course.. Thumbs up
I think the treads are so wide so it'll work in sand and snow? I've seen a older similar Kyosho model that was more a snow plow or snow transport
the width is definitely to go on snow. That's why I think I'll get different ones
6s?
That thing looks awesome Tony and fun as well.👍👍👍💯💯💯
Sweeet! I need a snow plow rig but can’t find anything worth while
@413RC Kyosho Blizzard 2.0
I wish they would sell just the bodies. Its the same frame as all the other Kyosho Blizzard models, they just changed the bodies. Be prepared to upgrade both motors, Receiver and ESC. I changed everything in mine and its a monster now! Goes 10 times faster than the original and plows snow like crazy. The one you have is a basher, not a plow. It even has the holes for the plow controller. Kyosho is able to charge the same but include less for the same. Thats a snow cat, not a tank. Not sure why you even chose that for a tank. Not going to work as well. Try Banggood and just buy a tank Chassis.
I've been running 2s lipo in mine , makes it faster but I want to go brushless motors soon
does it come with a lipo setting or low volatge shut off?
@@wtfdudekk ya it has an lvc when u run lipo , but double check the manual
@@midwestboss8808 thanks
MAKE IT BRUSHLESS SO I CAN BUY ONE🤪👍✌ I GOT MY CEN RACING SUZUKI JIMNY CAUSE OF U COOL VIDEOS
11-12hr charge not bad 😂🤣😂
OMG, No ! The Kyosho Trail King is NOT a Tank and is not meant to be re-designed to perform like a heavy Tank... and it's not meant for bashing !! Lol. ... It's design is to perform like it's older brothers, the "Nitro Blizzard" and "Blizzard EV", which were Snow Cats or Snow Tractors like that seen at Ski Resorts and those used in Heavy Industry of Artic Exploration and Research Projects. Metal Track are available on ebay. Lol.
👍
Cool, it's easy to put bodies on it I already put 4 different ones on my blizzard, looks like you can cut the tracks, Spyker makes thin ones for it among other things, spykerworkshop.com/ also the stick radio really is more precise for smoother driving once you get used to it... best way to drive with the sticks is hold them forward and barely lower the stick compared to the other one to make smooth movements, I have my blizzard set up with a pistol radio but also left my stock RX in it so I can quickly plug it up so I can use both types of radios, brushless mine is and if you watched my videos they still are slow on 3s mine topped out at 8.4mph probably can get it to go 10mph but to be honest anything faster than what mine goes now I think it will blow up.. I mostly run mine on 2s because 3s is on the edge for this gearbox design... If you want to make a super fast blizzard I suggest looking for the second gen chassis version I had one you can make it way faster it runs with one 540 size motor and the tracks run off like a rc car solid axle like a crawler but it has a diff and then 2 disk brakes so when you apply steering one caliper grabs the disk applies braking and the diff spins up and makes the other track turn, Like how you grab a rc cars tire and the other side spins up. those you can make fly they are much stronger than this one with all the gears in the gearbox. Have fun with it!
Not looking to go very fast. Just a bit faster to keep up with the others. I’ve been watching your vids. Still need to watch more.
Blizzard 2.0 is a junk chassis/ platform to build in my opinion. I just bought the trail king and already hate it. It’s depressingly sloooowww! Every idiot online says to get the Sabertooth esc with the Traxxas 380 motors. Well that’s bullsh1t because it doesn’t work!!! Anyways, I found and bought a vintage blizzard EV model brand new on eBay. I’m going to bullet-proof up the drive-train, add a Castle brushless system, and add the trail king chassis plates, bumper, light kit, and body to the old EV platform. It should really be something then! 😉
Def not my cup of tea, I don't like it.
