    To write off:
This video was made as a more personal project of mine. Being born in 2007, it seems that my life, no matter how hard I try, can’t escape the wrath of short form content that has emerged in the 2020’s. I only think content will get worse as time goes on though. By the time I was 10 I already had to deal with the trash that was Elsagate, fidget spinner challenges, and a wave of more kid friendly stimulating content. And now I have to try my best to avoid the flood of UA-cam Shorts and Tik Tok content. I made this video more as a coping mechanism than anything else. So I hope people around my age can connect to the struggle that is dealing with this new wave of, to be quite honest with you, harmful saturated eye candy. Thanks for listening if you’ve read and watched all the way through this, and goodbye.

Tbh that one line ''Either you have tiktok, or you don't fit in'' sums up 99% of the people at my drama school.
About 2-3 years ago, i was part of this friend group, we just chatted and did dumb stuff, then tiktok started getting popular among my friends, and suddenly i'm always sitting alone at break because i don't use tiktok.
And you know what their replies are if i ask them why their constantly just watching tiktok? ''Oh your just jealous haha''

As a person with ADHD, short-form content is the single most damaging thing that exists for me. I already struggle with getting things done thar need to be done, and I have a hard-coded short attention span, so basically all social media today destroys me on a fundamental level.
Its even harder for me to stop with this shit than most I think, as even before all this shit some days I would just be nearly catatonic, and now when that happens it almost always leads to the scrolling, which just compounds the issue.
The internet is humanities greatest invention, but social media is its worst.

I think, while appropriate to call TikTok a pleasure cube, it's probably something way more devastating. You're taken in and out of the metaphorical cube for a bit in a cycle, until at some point when you're let go from it. You then find yourself thinking "Wait, the world is so boring now. I wish I could go back to the cube". Then it becomes an endless cycle, where you spend greater and greater amounts of time in the cube rather than outside of it. It's not just a pleasure cube, it's more like a pleasure "bear trap" wherein users fall victim to it, and the "wounds" never heal because proper time isn't taken to allow them to in the first place.

Unlike short form content which just gets you a dopamine hit after dopamine hit... But now with "AI art" they are even taking that away. People think they are artists because they are able to type in a prompt into a website... I worry for humanity's future tbh haha. Everything needs to be faster and quicker, this can only damage us.

I've actually presented something like this to my Ela class for a project.
So tiktok was created in September of 2018 or 2017 (idk i forgot when), as well as a popular app called "douyin" who was also created by China. But douyin has facial recognition, and tiktok luckily doesn't.
But the issue with tiktok is not only the pipelines but as well as....the gore content.
Gore is no stranger to tiktok sadly but what makes it worse is that there are videos of Charlie demilio (idfk how to spell her name) dancing and then it cuts to (sadly) ronnie mcnutts last moments....
Anyway, I just wanted to share my opinion about how tiktok is actually the worst for the younger generations

The main overall reason why I don't have tiktok is because I want to feel grounded to my life. Seeing my friends ignore me at sleepovers to watch tiktok, my stepmom drive WHILE watching tiktok, and having to hear the repetative sounds over and over from people without headphones, it's all just made me promise myself to never download the app so I don't deal with the potential problems of losing who I am and awareness for life and others.

The part where you recalled the year where you just scrolled on TikTok and nothing more hit me right where it needed to.
For weeks in 2021, I was hooked onto TikTok. I used it constantly, and because of it, detached me from my family for a bit. Scrolling through brainless content, and slowly losing the motivation to do the passions I longed to do.
After I deleted it, things started to get better. Hell, even now, I’ve started to work on passion projects of mine. People may think it’s just an exaggeration when they say TikTok is bad (or UA-cam shorts) but it’s true. I hope people someday who are stuck in the cycle of watching short form content over and over again finally get of it, and do the things they enjoy doing.

During my time of using TikTok I did mainly get less meaningless content and actually learnt a lot about cooking and architecture, but it was still so time draining and less informative then if I watched a longer video and I’m so glad I deleted TikTok before the content on it got even worst like how it is now.

This reminds me of a book I read. In the story someone hooked a person up to a pleasure machine to kill them. The button to switch off the machine was within reach and could be pressed at any time without obstruction. But because the pleasure machine overrode that person's will to press the button, they ended up dying from dehydration/starvation because they wouldn't press that button.

This video is pretty good, although I wouldn't say that the app "promotes" ADHD, because that's a condition that you're born with, like autism. You can develop a shorter attention span, which is one of many symptoms of ADHD, but you can't just develop ADHD itself if you didn't have it when you were born. I guess you could also be making the point that the app could have even worse negative effects on people who already have ADHD, though, and with that I agree

I whole heartedly appreciate you talking about this subject. I think you have genuine talent in the content-creation (or film as a whole) ways, and absolutely have a step ahead of your fellow classmates or peers when it comes to intellect and attention. It is ruining a lot of folks around us.
Speaking from a guy in his early 20s who didn't grow up with this, but absolutely is feeling the effects of this in both the job force and university, it's just as damaging here as well. University and the early job environments have become such a hostile place due to just how clout-driven and insane people have gotten due to this app (among other things). Everyone wants to be famous quick, and everyone needs that next dopamine hit. I see it everywhere I go, and can only imagine how the people your age will fare off when they get in their early 20s and have to look for jobs. It's a very tough and bleak future to imagine, especially with the rise of AI (with TikToks AI as a contributing factor).
Idk if you'll see this, but I'm glad there are people your age who are this level-headed and critical in thought. Either way, keep it up man!

Great video! I like this new concept you're doing, to see the darker side of an application or just to explain what's wrong with it. I recognized myself a lot, with the "When you don't use tik tok, you're weird", it's so much like that. People are becoming sheep, and it's getting worse and worse. It's a thought I had, but people on tik tok doing useless dances for the little attention they can get, are going to become our future engineers.
And the crazy thing is, it's a loop. People went crazy with the arrival of television in the 1920s (I say randomly), and people go crazy with tik tok, every era has its little thing that makes society worse.
I'm not saying that television was and is crap, at least it felt like progress and sometimes you can find something that interests you and stay there for a long time, but with tik tok, and the effect it creates in making people hyper active.. I don't even see where the progress is. And I'll be honest, Shorts or Reels on youtube and instagram keep me busy when I'm bored, so yeah I can't judge everyone either, but I think it's a bit better than tik tok.

Have you ever played Ultrakill (often stylized in all caps as ULTRAKILL)? It's a really fun fast paced shooter, people call it the "poor mans Doom" and true to an extent. It feels like a mix between Devil May Cry and Doom (1993). I really like the healing mechanic that forces you to actually play the game and the style meter that rewards you for playing in a fun way. The developer is also super chill, doing stuff like adding a +MAURICED style bonus after a community meme, adding multiple speedrun techs as features because they are cool and selling real official body pillows of V1, Mirage and Gabriel (all characters from the game).
TL;DR Ultrakill is an accurate parkinsons simulation with angels and robot sex.
