I’m going to offer a counter perspective. Something to think about. For me, color, and expression, knick knacks, fabrics, and art, bring me joy. I love the way my house feels filled with spirit. Obviously, there is balance, and everyone has their own expression. But I’m starting to see this trend towards minimalism, where environments are bare, and everyone dresses simplistically, and monochromaticly, as something very stultifying, as moving too far in a certain direction. We are free and sovereign spirits. We thrive on all expressions of life, including art, and color. For anyone who has the opportunity, perhaps go to Italy, to Florence, especially, wander through the museums, inhale the fragrance of the beauty. Our souls are meant to be elevated. Thank you for listening. 🙏🏻 (I’m old enough to remember… 😌)
I would think it depends on the phase of life, in the overworked, overtired phase - minimalism at home could help. In the more collected phase - conscious choice of multitude of fabrics, colours is a great form to express oneself. But I can relate to the need to streamline our environment, leaning on minimalistic tendencies.
I used to thrive on colourful objects. I was very attracted to the object or the colour alone. A room filled with pop culture ephemera. I then found minimalism (for seven years), I decluttered and had a barren and simple room. Everything became very calm and straightforward. However, during COVID-19, I introduced more comfort and colour, and now I am more cohesive with my colour selections. My bedroom has lots of yellow and orange. You can use lots of colour and have knick-knacks as long as you have intention. For me, minimalism is all about consideration and personal values.
I think there must be a happy medium. I love fabric-but I have so much I will never use all of it and it brings me no pleasure trying to organize it. I love to travel, but I can’t afford to travel because I’ve bought too much stuff and have to have a place to put it. It is a vicious circle which I’m hoping to break.
I used to be minimalistic. No, not recently due to trends. But I never needed or desired more than I used. The only big items I had were a couple of surfboards and a few guitars. I was also in the military and lived in barracks a long time. For some reason something changed in my early 40s. I started collecting things I liked. I now have buyers regret. But what you said made me realize what changed and what I was doing. I've been using the things I surround myself with to identify who I am. Doing that itself isn't who I am. Thank you.
I am absolutely sooo proud of you, your tenasity, strength, sound mind, family, journey, & authentic person. Keep soaring! Congrats on new baby & sweet wife! Tonya
Best thing I've done since embracing minimalist principles is creating a work uniform. One less thing I have to coordinate or decide or constantly shop for or feel overwhelmed by.
I think it would be really beneficial to dive deeper into identity clutter. I find that to be the root of most clutter. Just a thought, thank you for your work and insights.
This is my first time on your channel. Thank you for providing value and supporting people on their minimalist journey. Your Decision Making Process was well laid out. If you haven't, can you do a video on supporting people on finding out what they value and how to create a vision for their life? Keep sharing!
SO MUCH AMAZINGNESS here! ✨🎶 Thank you!! ✨🌷✨ You are so kind to share so much! I appreciate your steps to help us make decisions!! Thank you!! 🌷✨🎶 Absolutely wonderful vibes abound about you! ✨ May you and your sweet family have many blessings & bestests!
I love the decision making advice! What a wonderful tool! I’m going to try it! Thanks a lot! All you have said in this video is incredibly helpful and meaningful!
Im an extreme minimalist and it makes me giggle daily how often I will look around a room, like my living room or upstairs closet and its filled 90% with my toddlers toys and the same with the bedroom, its split 50/50 with mine and their stuff. We share the cooking stuff expect for his toddler cutlery, food and lunchboxes but the only place that is basically mine is the storage under the stairs (but the hallway surrounding it is 50/50 me and my toddlers) and the bathroom where all he has is two towels, toothpaste and toothbrush and toilet seat as we share everything else.
Always love your videos! The plug for CUTS was really nice. I’m thinking though, steaming the fold creases from the tee would have been a nice touch. Thanks for helping me toward minimizing! ❤

we have a toddler due soon and would looooove your tips you mentioned on making tidying easier even in his clutter safe space. PS - already adopting that one! and it looks like montessori style setup? :) he is due in about a month/month a half so we cant wait.....it's also so important to us to maintain our simple, clutter free, minimal life and home, we thrive off it too!! please do share about your approach to keeping things sane with the toddler as we have the same approach and values and would love your tips :D
after you mentioned step 1 i literally got my notebook and started writing down what my ideal life would look like (in like 15ish years, when i have kids and money lol)
Hi Mr. Banks, I have learned alot from your videos. I am interested in finding nice t shirts like you get from cuts, however, I am plus size, can you recommend any brand?
New to this channel, lots of "ads clutter" unfortunately 😕 it would be easier to watch if ads were only placed at the beginning/end of the videos, thanks anyway for sharing your ideas
my 22 year old with adhd is just now getting into his "style" he's dating, lol. so he upping his hoodie game from the gorillaz to design. he has to get rid of old hoodies.
It's so interesting that you look younger now than in 2018... More relaxed, calmer, in peace.
