  • This problem walk-though video will demonstrate how to crash a project after determining drawing the network diagram and determining the critical paths.
    NOTE:
From 7:09 to 10:23 there is a typo in some of the columns relating to Path 3:
The Blue Wave 1 column should read -1=19
The Green Wave 2 column should read -2=17
The Orange Wave column should read -1=16
These were actually corrected at 10:24 going forward.
Those typos do not change the final crash results and costs.

Thank you so much for the brief explanation. I got one question: is it okay if me and my friend had different number of waves to solve this problem? some will solve in 4 waves, others in 6...etc. Do all the solutions have to be identical? knowing that end results are the same.

Glad you liked the video. No the solution doesn’t have to be identical. There are different ways to solve them but the end result is the same.

I think he made a mistake withb Path 3. Should it not be 20-1=19 weeks?

      Hi Shevin,
Yes, you are correct, there are some typos relating to that path and at 10:24 in the video they were corrected.

Thanks for pointing this out. I provided a note in the description of the video.

Hey, what should be the answer of the following question-
The activities involved in a certain project have been identified as follows:
    Job Time
    (weeks)
    No. of Men
    required
    Precedence
    requirements
    A 5 1 -
    B 10 1 A
    C 8 2 A
    D 6 3 B,C
    E 7 1 B,C
    F 4 2 E
    G 4 2 D,F
    H 2 1 G
    a. For the above project draw the network (using the MS word line function) and
    determine the critical path.
    b. If there are three men available at any one time how long would the project take
and how would you allocate the men to the activities?
    c. If there are no restrictions on the amount of labour available, explain how you
    would schedule the activities?

      Hi there,
Sorry, but I'm quite busy and don't have the time to create a video for this. I create videos as I need them and post to share.
I'm also not available for one-on-one help.
To deal with a penalty, you would simply treat it as an additional cost, over and above the crash cost and should be added if, after crashing, you know how many penalty days there are.
      Hope this helps.
