- South Korea summoned Russia's ambassador to Seoul Friday to protest a defence deal signed by President Vladimir Putin and North Korea's Kim Jong Un during a visit to Pyongyang this week. Putin also said this week that Moscow did not rule out military and technical cooperation with the North, or even sending weapons -- all of which would violate rafts of UN sanctions against Pyongyang. France 24’s Douglas Herbert takes a look at the fallout from Putin’s comments.

Probably not handing over weapons of mass destruction to the most unpredictable rogue state in the world? Once you give them that power, even if they turn on you, you can't do anything. What happens when Kim decides that Beijing or Moscow aren't his friends anymore and uses his weapon to get back at them? Seoul has already provided shells to Ukraine via a shifty deal with it's U.S. commanders. The latest development of Russia/DPRK relations is a logical and long overdue response to the regular military exercises being carried out in the region by the U.S. and it's vassal states ie; South Korea and Japan. Moreover, in the context of an emerging Eurasian multipolar world order, major state leaders such as China, Russia, India etc; have a lot to learn from the way that the DPRK has become such a resilient, secure and relatively self sustaining fortress.

If you want to know who is being hypocritical, just read the text of the Armistice signed in 1953 that stopped the Korean War. Among other things, the parties agreed that all foreign military forces shall leave the Korean peninsula and no new weapon systems shall be brought into Korea.
The U.S. continue to violate the terms of the armistice as the only foreign military force still remaining in Korea more than 70 years later, and never stopped bringing new weapon systems into Korea, the latest being the THAAD and F35s, altering the balance of military power. Small wonder that the North Koreans feel threatened and developed its own nuclear deterrent. If Kim is to get his hands on Russian hypersonic missiles and ICBMs, I am sure they will sleep better in Seoul and Washington.
