very nice, i'm moving to Florida around the Orlando Area and i do want to make sure my house is not going to fall into a sinkhole for sure lol that is very scary, i seen videos of entire large house fall into a 200 foot hole killing every one in the house, only one family member survived it who was out side in the yard, it happen in the afternoon to these people with out warning, the guy who survived said if felt like an earth quake at first and then heard a loud noise and looked over to his left and saw his house gone, and only pieces of the top of the house hanging over the edge of the hole where the rest of the house was way down below, he said it look liked a pile of wood and stone dumped into a hole, he was about 5 feet away from the edge of the hole..
the most scary thing you can encounter and they have been larger sinkholes that has happen i mean as large as 500 feet wide and go as far as 500 feet deep, which could take out a few houses at once..
So checking for this is a good idea and making sure you get sinkhole insurance when you buy a house...
what happens is the water seeps into the ground, and builds up in the ground, mostly from rain, (acid Rain) and what happens is the acid water corrodes the limestone under house land, and there is a large body of water still there but as soon as that water eventually seeps away and it dries up, it leaves an open space under your land and eventually the land gives away because there is nothing holding it up any more and it falls into a hole where the water was that is not there any more, the size can vary it could be the size of a football or could be the size of a house or larger then that could be the size of an airplane hanger, and when it gives away if there is a house above it, the house goes into the hole when it gives away.
also some people create their own sinkholes or make it worst and happen more quickly but having poor water gutters on their house making the rain that hits the house gutter the water right on the foundation of the house seeping in where your house is and over the years of the rain building up under your house it eats away the limestone and eventually creates a sinkhole, could be months could be years, you never know...

We lived in Citrus County, FL, for 7 years, from '93-2000, when I was the pastor of a medium sized church. We NEVER heard anything about sinkholes even though this map shows Citrus County as a prime area. Since then, there has been a lot of development. Could this be a factor?
Hi Jamie! I'm not sure if development could impact the frequency or activity of sink holes, I suppose that's possible. It's also possible that the sink hole maps have been updated, or it's such a rare occurrence in Citrus County that you haven't heard of it. 😊
@@CompassLandUSA The underground acquirer is being depleted, leaving large empty spaces below. Where pasturelands once fed herds of cattle, we now see Thee Villages and other rapidly growing retirement communities, all of which need water, and lots of it!
What is the current condition of the underground acquifer? Some think the acquifer is stressed with all the development in Central Florida and the irrigation needs of the farming communities, all of which leave cavernous empty spaces below, ready to collapse with sufficient rainfall.

I love sink holes, I enjoy watching them eat and swallow everything around them, let's hope 1 day Florida will be devoured by 1 big sink hole. How entertaining would that be to watch, waiting and hoping.
