I found your channel as i was in search of buying my first bike and i have learned many things from your videos, They're very informative and you're super clear with explanations so thanks for the knowledge vintage, to much more to learn!
Anything I can help you with or I notice similar to mine, I'll try and help you out. Not a mechanic but I've been working on it and been on every raptor forum. It's a great machine, wait until you get use to it. I did 88 miles in one afternoon in upstate NY near Adirondacks this summer, literally one of the best days of my life. I just love the machine, very happy for you.
I think I might know a trick for that compression release. On some of the old tractors I work on there is a compression release on the camshaft. To get an accurate reading I would roll the engine over backwards and that usually works. Maybe it would work on your 660.
Hey Joe I'm not mistaking that sounds like an exhaust clamp that is loose or something with the exhaust keep up with the good videos and don't pay no mind to the haters
Front and rear brake pads are all the same, you received a complete set of pads for the quad. Also check your exhaust and make sure the rattle isn't coming from there.
Check the clutch throw arm rod maybe twisted out of alignment. Is the muffler bolts loose around the crush sleeve.& on the engine itself. Those will make that rattling noise to.
Ltz’s have a lot of problems with the cams. Your can’t adjust the valves with out shims and the cam gear are just pressed onto the camshaft. So the gear spins on the shaft. Messing up the timing.
@@chaseroach26 yes the sprockets on the stock cams are pressed on,but not hot cams or web,it isn't possible for a pressed on cam sprocket to spin on the cam unless you have major problems,my ltz's have been great too me,the valves they have from the factory are junk, and poorly sealed air box and junk k&n filters that destroy the valves
I had a raptor 660r before and I had the same rattle noise I found out there was a rock between the skid plate. I would take off the skid plate to see if there’s a rock or something rattling
I have a 2007 raptor 700 and it rattle when it was in high rev and it was the skid plate the bolts where tight but still rattle so i bought this tape cushion and put it around the skid plate where it touches the frame and tighten it again and the rattle was gone.
Check pipes are all tight. It sounds worse under high rev may also be loose cam chain. It doesn't sound like its skipped a tooth but it does kinda sound like the chain slapping the side of case inside.
I’m not the greatest at wheelies but one thing I did learn which helped a lot is that when you get it up try not to be choppy with the throttle try to keep it smooth it helped me maybe it will help you
You've left him 3 separate comments giving him grief. Why? Your being a keyboard warrior and you know it. Hes rebuilt 4 stroke engines etc... could you do that? Noooooo
Hey 2vintage, I commented on your last video and I don’t know if you seen it. But if you watch the front passenger side lower a arm you can watch something move only when you hear the rattle noise. Go to previous video and watch it were I put the time stamp. Hope it helps!
1: Automatic decomposition built into the cam . 2: rattle noise you are hearing sounds like the cam chain probably I'm worn out chain guide 3: other brake pads are for the front
do you know y my honda 300ex wont start up? i change the oil spark plug Carburetor and everything nd it still doesn't want too start up i was riding it and it just turn off on me?
Hey My mechanic is having problems with starting my 04 Raptor 660r .😬 I have a new top end (factory) and a new Exhaust. We also replaced my valves but when try to start it the exhaust is sucking in air instead pushing air air out !! I really need some instructions/information to help him figure out the problem 😔
Good catch on the bolt. Is it coming from in the silencer? Exhaust heat shield? Maybe u could put thick o rings on between the frame and the skid plate. Put an oring on each bolt, maybe 2. Did that on my 250r.
That noise sounded like sheet metal vibrating. Maybe a heat shield loose? I've heard similar noises on loose internal muffler baffles - rare but it happens.
I think its the starter clutch if it's been replaced and wasn't tightened to spec it will sound like that good at idle and open throttle but reving it will sound like that mine had the same problem when I replaced mine
leakdown test is the true way to check for any internal engine problems. compression test is not very accurate with compression releases and it doesnt tell you what is causing the low compression like the leakdown will
I have a raptor 250 and if I don’t have my feet on the pegs a little plastic parts that are behind the pegs they rattle. They protect your feet from your back tires.
Enjoyed this video, could see better what you were working on. Don’t know if it’s because the light in the garage was better for it maybe. Whatever is rattling is thin light metal, a heat shield , baffles in exhaust, some cover ?
I love your voids and I could use some new breaks. But I have a 2007 Honda 400ex so those pads won't work. Keep up the great work much love from Michigan.
Man I’m 12 and I got a blaster about 1 year ago running great. Every time we took it on a big ride it would blow up. Then we figured out a bunch of the seals inside the cases were cracked and the case had gasket maker on it sucking in air. Good luck
Blasters are fun. Great for your age. They have a pretty smooth power delivery for a two stroke. They are powerful enough to have plenty of fun but are still safe if you know what you are doing.
Try tightening ur exhaust shields and try taking off the skid plate then testing it there is also a cover that goes over ur throttle cable on the carburetor try tightening that cover
Pull the skid plate and see if it still makes noise. If so you can get some rubber hose the same size as your frame cut it in half and bolt the plate back up. You will need a new rotor also or you pads not going to last long
The Yamaha Raptor still has that noise! What could it be?

I saw you got a three wheeler I think nice keep up the good work I'll keep giving you support.
Remove the skid plate Completly
Exhaust heat shield
Sounds too high a pitch for inside motor.
I could use one of the rear break packs
Oh lord can someone please bless this man with a pipe😂😂
hahah
I’ll take the stock one
Looks like he has money 😂
Wow, unbelievable at all the people that think a pipe is going to save the day.
I found your channel as i was in search of buying my first bike and i have learned many things from your videos, They're very informative and you're super clear with explanations so thanks for the knowledge vintage, to much more to learn!
U get 3 in a pack 2 for the front 1 for the back brakes
Also, pretty sure they will fit honda as well.
Some people can't think that hard
And you will need all the extras lol 660’s eat pads
Trash the front brake calipers and convert them to the yfz450 calipers
I would have took the whole skid plate off to see if it was the problem
yep this guy is a bozo the “extra brake pads” are for the front lol

You should recheck the compression now that you've adjusted the valves.. a slightly open valve (tight) can cause loss of compression
Yeah I was going to but forgot haha. I will check compression again. I'm pretty sure it's just the decompression messing with the compression though.
The exhaust heat shield mabye rattling?
I checked...not it unfortunately
@@2vintage age
@@2vintage metal skids plate can rattle put foam on skid plate to minimize vibration
Take the whole skid plate off and see if it eliminates the noise
Try snatching second in the middle of your wheelies. Or pop it up in second at a roll. Wheelies will be more controllable. 👍
Take the skid plate off and still see if it rattles 👍🏻good vid

Not certain but i dont think 660s have a compression release. My 02 doesn't anyways. Now my ktm 525exc did and it was a twat
Hey Joe I'm not mistaking that sounds like an exhaust clamp that is loose or something with the exhaust keep up with the good videos and don't pay no mind to the haters
Aint no one hating
Those intake valves being tight will def affect the pressure. I think ur fine on compression myself. Noise is def skid plate. Good stuff man.
Take the skid plate off and se if it still makes the noise
The extra pads are probably for the front
I'll take the rear brake pads? I have a 01 660 r... great job on the fix!!
Front and rear brake pads are all the same, you received a complete set of pads for the quad. Also check your exhaust and make sure the rattle isn't coming from there.
Did you check compression after adjusting valve?
No he blamed the battery for the low reading he said the valves r fine it was just the battery giving it a low reading haha I've heard it all now
Check the clutch throw arm rod maybe twisted out of alignment. Is the muffler bolts loose around the crush sleeve.& on the engine itself. Those will make that rattling noise to.
Amazon has a stainless reverse knob bracket for $10 not sure if that's your issue but it worked for my 660
Thank you, I will check it out!
I have a 07 Yamaha raptor 350 the rattle that you have sounds like coming from heat shield or muffler bracket
I've used a mechanics stethoscope for my car to find a whining noise. That would help you find it I believe. Keep up the good vids
A piece of heater hose works great or water hose
I just got a 2024 700r see last weekend I freaking love it I had a 660r in 2001 when they firat came out also loved it also
You can buy skid plate foam. From motorsport or Dennis Kirk or something. Sold in sheets made for vibration I believe
I was wondering if you could Get a Suzuki ltz400
Ltz’s have a lot of problems with the cams. Your can’t adjust the valves with out shims and the cam gear are just pressed onto the camshaft. So the gear spins on the shaft. Messing up the timing.

@@itsyoboydaniel8570 That's funny i have the same exact quad as you and i had to do the same thing! lol
@@loganw4189 looks like its missing a bolt?
You need to put rubber in between the frame and skid plate
Yeah do you still think that noise is the skid plate?
2vintage yeah I would say so
Timing chain slapping or Maybe the motor mount bolts are loose
Check pipes are all tight. It sounds worse under high rev may also be loose cam chain. It doesn't sound like its skipped a tooth but it does kinda sound like the chain slapping the side of case inside.
Could the rattling be from the heat shield on the exhaust
My guess as well. My Warrior did the same thing
You should get it some spacers at least for the front wheels. It’ll help a lot with stability
So did the compression change after valve adjustment?
I got raptor 700 and for some reason it is really easy for me to plow trough the brake pads so I would recommend keeping some extras.
The Rattling noise could be the heat Shield on the exhaust
We need some old bikes in here
Next video
I'm hoping so me and my dad rebuilt a d old honda
It is the skid plate I had mine tightened all the way and had to add little slivers of rubber to get it to stop from rattling
Those brake pads also fit on the Honda 400 and they use the same parking brake delete plate as well
The rattle could be broken exhaust baffles in muffler or no copper washers between the head pipe and cylinder
Was that crazy buzzing or rattle the front brake lever vibrating i watched your riding it and when you rev up the lever vibrates ????.
When the compression is very low.it's Tim'e to do top end rebuild jugs piston head valves rocker arm cam stuff like that
And for the rattle check the exhaust heat shields or could possibly be something broke loose inside the muffler with a slight rattle to it
Should’ve put a new rotor on that ones heat warped I bet from that pad that was only metal and it’s gonna chew those new pads apart
you should check the rear skid plat under the swing arm or the exhaust bolts
Joe , check the heat shield once again. I think that’s where the rattles coming from. Also they have you 3 pads for the front too.
I’m not the greatest at wheelies but one thing I did learn which helped a lot is that when you get it up try not to be choppy with the throttle try to keep it smooth it helped me maybe it will help you

Be something to do with rear exhaust
Plate or silencer.
Hey love the vids man can you please do a 400ex and 660r race I have a 400ex and I’m looking into getting a 660 too so just curious lol
Raptor with big 3 will smoke a 400. Stock they are pretty close. Raptors airbox is very restrictive.

Check the Exhaust and the heat Shield on the pipe
Second check on compression after adjustment ????

Check motor mounts for rattling.

I had the same problem and it was a washer that fell between the skid and the frame.
You have got to do a Raptor v Banshee and Quadzilla race!
I can’t find any skid plates for my 04 Yamaha raptor 660 on amazon
My heat shield rattled like hell but fixed it, no more rattles just one loud ass motor.
Take the skid plate of bro and check for loose stones etc rattling on it

Check the oil man. Or the it kinda sounds like dry clutch noise to me. Like whan when whining. The next thing it could be is camshaft loose inside.
