What is Lampworking? It is the art of creating small glass beads (and other glass elements) by melting rods of colored glass in a flame, then winding that melted glass around a steel rod (mandrel), which creates the bead hole. After the artist is finished making the bead on the mandrel, and the glass hardens back to a solid state, It is placed into a pre-heated kiln to soak for a length of time which strengthens (anneals) the glass. After the annealing process in the kiln, and the glass is cool, it is removed from the steel mandrel and a bead has been created! After some cleaning, the bead is now ready to be used in any jewelry design.

Hi, I Just Bought Your E-book On Murrini Making. I Haven't Had Time To Read All Of It Yet But It Is Packed With Great Ideas And I'm Sure I'll Be Working Off Your Book For Years To Come. I Have Made Murrini Before Using Optic Molds. I Have A Pair Of Disk Nips Pliers But They Do Not Always Cut Straight, So I Was Looking To Buy A Murrini Chopper Tool And Was Hoping That You Might Know Where I Could Buy One. Thank You And Please Keep These Great Videos Coming.

This is so wonderful to hear, thank you! :) I have a couple different types of murrini nippers - one with the wheels (which always seem to need tightening otherwise the disks get loose which can lead to uneven cuts). I have another pair without wheels which cuts reliably straight but works best when nipping from the upper or lower edges, so the entire cane is not in the middle. I know I've seen a murrini chopper somewhere before, but not sure I remember who sells one... Some places to check would be Arrow Springs, Frantz, maybe even Davardi Glass. Also, maybe check the lampworketc.com group... there might be some old posts that will have more info. Thank you again for your purchase of my tutorials!
