Saturday Night Live cast ranked worst to first - ALL CAST MEMBERS!

- Here is the list that Rolling Stone put together ranking all the past and present members of Saturday Night Live.
See where Kevin Nealon, Eddie Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Dennis Miller, Tina Fey and many more placed.
Bobby Moynihan deserves to be farther up than 98th
+Wilds Pierce No he doesn't, he's lucky to be at 98th.
Clutch Cargo I just think he is a little funnier than a couple other people placed higher than him
Wilds Pierce I think Joe Piscopo is way too low, he should be in the top-20 for sure. He was a major reason why the show stayed on the air throughout the 80's. Phil Hartman should be #1 and Dan Akyroyd should be #2. The entire list is completely screwed up, except for Robert Downey, he is where he should be.
Bobby Moynihan isnt really that funny
@@wv-re6mo he should be higher than Abby Elliot at 80.
Ranking Norm MacDonald lower than Randy Quaid is a travesty.
Yes, thank you! Norm was a maybe a little more subtle part of the success of the show, but had some seriously funny stuff on the show. His take on Weekend Update was genius and just what true fans needed at the time. Thanks Norm.
@andrewman83 That's because this ranking was made by Don Ohlmeyer
Norm top ten any list.... Must've been a Saigon whore who bit my nose off, who made this list!!!!
Norm rubs some people the wrong way but I agree. when it comes to comedy minds, that's like putting Jimmy Buffet above Bob Dylan.
These rankings are a joke. Kenan, among others, are WAY to low on the list.
Rolling Stone literally pulled names out of a hat. This list is complete nonsense.
I like Kenan. Seems like a great guy with his head on straight.
Kate McKinnon has more talent in her little pinky finger than all of Jimmy Fallon combined.
I fail to recognise consistent rating criteria here.
+Squidward Q. Tentacle - Thank you so much Squidward Q. Tentacle (aka Jimmy Fallon) for your incredible insight on Jimmy Fallon...WOW!! He can play a few basic chords on the guitar and impersonate actually talented people. Sure, true genius.
+Squidward Q. Tentacle - you're right. I guess I'm just hating because I'm a Conan O'Brien fan. I do think Jimmy Fallon is funny, just not that funny - but everyone has different taste and I understand why people really like Jimmy Fallon
+Squidward Q. Tentacle - Thanks. This was the most excitement I've had all week. Take care.
I agree
The order in which the names came into the maker's mind
Why isn't Bill hader and will Ferrell in the top ten?!?!?
hmmm may be Ferrell, but Harder no way
vic ferg haders a legend
@@victorfergn A lot of people who are talented weren't necessarily great on this show, but Bill Hader is ridiculously talented AND he showed it on SNL regularly. Easily in my top ten.
@@victorfergn harder as an actor not a comedian had his moments on snl great vincent price
They lose credibility very early by ranking Norm McDonald so low.
Understatement
agreed
First thing that came to my mind watching this honestly.
His Burt Reynolds was friggin hilarious!
I hate Norm but you are right, he should've been in the top 30 or 20
Wrong, wrong, wrong, and ... wrong.
You left out wrong
That moment when the Muppets are ranked higher than you
Can't take this list seriously when you've got Norm MacDonald low on the list. He was the best Weekend Update anchor
Obviously this list was made by a person that shared their personal favourites, what a horrible judge of talent!
obviously the interns assigned this didnt bother looking at tapes not from their era
@@MrRaulstrnad yeah, this list was awful. Whoever made this list obviously didn't watch snl enough to rank. Its gets worse as you go further down the list.
@@Solodolo84 yeah thats the problem of most youtube ranking videos-either they are paid by specific interests or they are just ignorant of history
@@MrRaulstrnad facts, its a shame things play out like this. Decades of players and their craft unacknowledged due to ignorance. Real ones know whats up tho 🍻
I AM RAGING THAT HE HAD THE *AUDACITY* TO PUT KATE FRICKIN MCKINNON AT 37! 37!!!!!!!!!
yes to tell the truth later cast members from the 21st century are seriously more talented than the seventies and eighties cast members we think of the original cast members as legends but truth be told they were not that great and their humour has aged somewhat
personally i think also the 21st century cast as being more able to deliver consistent performance because in general they have benefited from institutional muscle memory =script writers and set builders just know much more what is going to work live than their opposites in the seventies and eighties
also generally the modern cast members are using less drugs than before so they are less zonked out on stage
I would have put her below Downey! She is awful!
Bill hader should be in the top 5 !
Nope, I love him but he can't be in the top 5... he's not THAT important in the history of SNL
@@victorfergn who's John belushi why is he #1 and not Darrell Hammond
@@stephenlynch6389 The most important comedian of that time
@@victorfergn not to me you shite bag
@@stephenlynch6389 Who gives a fuck
How the hell is Kate McKinnon not even in the top 5? She can play 30 characters and no two are alike.
Because her entire SNL career has been woke bullshit.
No way is Chevy chase funnier than Chris Farley and will ferrell. Those should be the top 2
I know chevy shouldn’t even be in this list he was only one for 1 season and he only became funny after he left and I think his best work on the show was as a host.
chevy was more of a mug artist not really that great a performer that is why his movie career wasnt that great and eventually stagnated and he was the first to leave snl for hollywood
This whole list re-defined funny...to something that we associate with not being funny. Chevy was the driest humor on set..Dana carvey was the type where your mind thought he was SUPPOSED to be funny but just wasn't. Etc
The list was very strange and putting Belushi at number 1 was more of a death bias he obtained. He wasn't the funniest of his cast
#135. Norm Macdonald
*turns video off*
I love Tina Fey, and I still think there's NO WAY she's #3.
Her and Gilda Radner should have switched places.
definitely there for her brilliant writing contributions, but based off of performance alone she would not be close to #3
Norm that low is a tragedy, he’s the best weekend update anchor and he’d be in my top 10 snl cast members
A few random thoughts: Fallon at 36??? Armisen could've used a bigger bump, and Lovitz is a top 10 (in my opinion), Myers is perfect at 4, Carvey deserves a 7 or 8 (not 11), some current cast (Mooney, Bennet, Davidson) will rise in time from low 90's, Killam/McKinnon both have top-20 potential
+Squidward Q. Tentacle great thoughts here. To clarify, I was complaining that Fallon was too low. As with you, I agree that Fallon is/will go down as one of the greats.
Agree.
@@oakstwentyfive wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, no way
vic ferg Your problem is that you’re not even giving the newer cast members a chance. Kyle Mooney and Kate McKinnon (just to name a couple) are some of the most talented comedians on the show in decades
Before I go even a slight bit further... Jim Bruer at 139? Thats outrageous. Youve lost some credibility right out of the gate.
Fuck yeah. The Joe Pesci Show is one of the best series of sketches in SNL history.
Tina Fey is not #3... no way.
1. Why are Chris Farley, Will Ferrell, and Dana Carvey not even in the top 10.
2. This is purely based off of your opinion.
+Chad Ross I was pretty sure that Will Farrell would be in the top three. if he is not on the list, then the list is unworthy of recognition.
I agree, there is so much that is wrong with this list - it's pitiful.
Don't blame the one who posted this; blame Rolling Stone.
They should be in the hundreds actually
Agree
'The New Kids'. Oh! There go a majority of my favorites!
“Yea let’s put Brooks Wheelan at 73 but funnier people after him”
Tina Fey #3 ???????? Give me a fucking break. Never realized she was better than all the original female cast members and most of the guys. Once again rolling stone makes no fucking sense.
So Larraine Newman was a better cast member than Tina Fey?? She totally belongs at #3 cause she was great acting in skits, was a part of one of the better versions of "Weekend Update" (Dennis Miller called her the best anchor ever on "WU"), and she was the head writer for 7 seasons.
Teddy Stephens I guess if you consider a bunch of cutesy smiles and smirks actual comedy. I can't think of one skit Tina Fey did and weekend update was stupid fill-in stuff.
james madison
Some people might mention her as Sarah Palin as a memorable outside of Weekend Update.
Gern Blanston That was after she was cast though. I'm sorry but Fey is extremely overrated by RS!
+james madison Tina Fey also the head writer of the SNL. So, basically all the sketches since 2000 should go through her first, then Lorne Michael. Yeahh, she is more influential than any of your favorite guys.
Hard to rank when it's pretty subjective.
I don't think anyone should be allowed to rank the snl cast members. If Lorne thinks they're funny they are funny!
except a lot of performers over the years did not really shine and were not that funny
Honestly, I LOVED Norm Macdonald and Bobby Moinahan. I don't know why they get so much hate!😭
Don't worry, now that he's died everyone will fake like him.
David Spade ahead of Darrell Hammond? Please....and so many bit players ahead of Joe Piscopo???
Jane Curtin out of the top 25 is way off!
where is Aidy?
Crushed with the other cast members that premiered since 2013 (like Leslie Jones, Kyle Mooney, Colin Jost, Michael Che, etc.)
For real some of those are some really funny people bobby Monaghan is a 21 century Chris Farley he is hilarious
The most interesting thing about it is he is now older than him (almost 40 to be exact) and is continuing to gain popularity and different characters/roles each time he performs. It feels like he's a successor to Farley and even John Belushi with a dash of Phil Hartman, I don't think it won't be long until he'll be as near unanimously beloved as them ;)
Totally agree.
Everyone’s angry at the uploader, but no one bothered to notice, this was a list compiled by The Rolling Stone, none of this is strictly the uploader’s opinions
So, Rob Schneider (#44) is "funnier" than Norm MacDonald (#135)!? I don't know what planet the writers of Rolling Stone are from, but it sure as hell isn't Earth.
Also Kevin Nealon, Aidy Bryant and Bobby Moynihan are worse than Schneider? smh
Also Will Forte, Jay Pharoah, and Garret Morris??? Who wrote this???
Idiots, apparently.
William Fudge I have a special place in my heart for Norm I always want to see him succeed. Dirty Work is one of my favorite movies of all time mainly because of Norm. I mean who hasn't had there sides hurt watching Burt Reynolds do celebrity jeopardy? WHO?
But Rob did all those great movies
LOL😃🤣😂😂😆
Glad to see Phil Hartman in the top ten. Tina Fey is good but way overrated at #3. Jimmy Fallon at 36? Yeah right. If he didn't have the Tonight Show now, he'd be around 130.
Phil was like the backbone for years I felt.
I'm pretty sure this list is the one Rolling Stone compiled earlier this year. Obviously, we all disagree with alot of the choices.
A couple of mine are Chevy Chase so very high and Norm MacDonald so very low. Just saying
This dude really just put Jimmy Fallon above Kate McKinnon
Can't lie the muppets ahead of Robert Downey jr. has me laughing harder then most SNL skits!
The list is from Rolling Stones and they themselves call it "a passionate, definitive, opinionated, subjective, irresponsible and indefensible breakdown of the Not Ready for Prime Time Players" so yeah, they're not claiming there's any objective criteria apart from the very vague idea of "onscreen impact".
I don't think they truly understand what "onscreen impact" means for most of these
Thank you, there is so much wrong with this list - it's beyond words...
You lost me at Denny Dillon over Cheri Oteri
Norm at 135...
I now see why there are so many dislikes
Bobby and norm should b way higher on the list
Not even the people on this list would agree with this list.
My top 10: Hartman, Murphy, Meyers, Farley, Belushi, Carvey, Thompson, Hader, Akyroyd, Sandler. Alternatives might be McKinnon, Lovitz, Wiig, Rock.
Fay, Pohler, Dreyfus (really?), Fred, Chevy, Maya, Andy and my God, Al Franken should be lower. Keenan, Oteri, Hammond (master impressionist), Norm, Meadows and Sanz should be much, much higher. Bobby Moynihan's rank is absurd. Otherwise, its not too bad.
Wait. . . the Muppets?
This is a pretty damned solid Top Ten cept I would trade out Sandler for either Gilda, McKinnon or Wiig (for CONSISTENTLY funny), and, sorry, Farley and Thompson would be be lower in the top ten, but still there.
You would put Seth Meyers at #3? Or did you mean Mike Myers? Either way I respect your opinion
@@TheKobe5s Meyers was shit myers wasn’t
The music sounds better at 2 times speed
So Cheri Oteri and Chris Kattan are in the 100s yet Vanessa Bayer and Cecily Strong are in the 40s!! You're kidding right!!
+nvyou101 Cheri's character who took all those meds, and wore her housecoat everywhere, and tried to bang anything with a pulse, and just talked all this crazy psychobabble all the time: she is still one of my fav characters. She should be in anyone's top fifty list. And pretty much any of 'em from the Rocket period need to be over 100. Yeah, this list is wack.
Vanessa and Cecily are ok in their spots. It´s Cheri and Kattan who should be higher.
The reason why robert downey jr is the worst here is because he’s the best for iron man
How you have Fallon above norm just shows you have no idea what you are talking about.
Anyone who feels a need to rank anyone who's ever been on SNL is just completely missing the point entirely. Every actor who's ever been on the show has contributed something timeless. I'm surprised that a magazine as well known as Rolling Stone came up with such a stupid list. I didn't even get halfway through it before turning it off.
I think they're objective measures of ability. Adaptability, versatility and believablity are rankable things.
Somebody's butt hurt because the last few members of this list belongs in the top 20.
I love John. one of my all time favorites. he just wasn't a comedian he was a force of nature.
When you put Bobby Moynihan number 98 it makes me think you should watch snl before you make a video about it
You can immediately stop watching this when you see Norm MacDonald listed near the back and you haven't even seen Ben Stiller, Sarah Silverman and Anthony Michael Hall yet. Now add in Jay Mohr being higher on the list even though his run was an absolute train wreck requiring the network to quietly payoff a comedian Jay stole material from. The only reason they didn't let Jay go was because they didn't want to bring attention to the incident so they let him stay a little longer but his career there was over.
Any list that ranks Kristin Wiig (14) below Tina Fey (3) is seriously deranged.
When I saw Beth Cahill ranked above Joe Piscopo the rankings lost all credibility.
Maya Rudolph as nr 18? Literally what the fuck.
Everything she did was so funny. I would say she is close to #1
Norm Macdonald was awesome
What was the criteria for the ranking?
Damn, young Brian Doyle Murray really looks like his younger and more famous brother, Bill Murray back then.
Was Bill Murray on this list I don't remember seeing him?
No he wasn’t and neither was Danny Aykroyd.
@@scottnorwood659 probably got lumped together back there in the 100s what a crazy list
Jan Hooks should be in the top 20, at least ahead of Rachel Dratch.
Robert Downy Jr. the worst of all time? A bit harsh. His worst crime was that he was completely unmemorable. That space would be better suited to one of the parade of faceless one-seasoners from the 80's or someone who could actively make a sketch worse for being in it like Victoria Jackson.
kate desevers to be on the top 10 well rn cmonnnn
Truth. (But she IS getting outta control.)
This is the worst countdown in the history of countdowns!
I would have preferred that you didn’t bunch actors together in one notation. This is an extraordinary pool of talent from top to bottom.
Bobby Moynihan deserves to be waaaaaaaay up. Not to mention that he looks EXACTLY like my ex 😒😭🥰
Look at this as a list of every SNL cast member
In no particular order
I agree only with John Belushi as number one and Eddie as number two.
No way number one
Too difficult to put in order by “rank” 150 cast members. It’s very subjective. I would have just preferred to just see a list of the cast members alphabetically just to see how many actors have actually gotten their start on SNL. There’s a reason the show has been on for so long: MANY talented ppl.
Chris Farley being at 15 is a disgrace
Mike Meyers way too high on that list.
1. Carvey 2. Hartman 3. Aykroyd 4. Murphy 5. Farrell 6. Fey 7. Mike Myers 8. Hader 9. Farley 10. Wiig.
honorable mention: Sandler, Radner, McKinnon, Armisen, Hammond, Poehler.
Love Norm but his best work was after SNL. Chase was a trailblazer but only on for one season. Belushi memorable but overrated. Carvey probably got more laughs than anyone in SNL history, and Hartman was probably the best actor. Without Aykroyd the original cast would have come unglued. And you have to give Murphy credit for carrying that otherwise forgettable cast. He single-handedly saved that show from cancellation. I rank Fey high because she doubled as a writer. Also love Bill Murray but he found his stride after SNL.
It's the same as those ridiculous RS type lists where you know it's a jumbled bingo call until you, once again, kiss ass of the top three - Beatles / Rolling Stones/ Bob Dylan
EVERYBODY DISLIKE FOR BOBBY MOYNIHAN HE SHOULD BE IN THE FRICKING TOP TEN
When I was watching this to me it was going from best to worst
WOW I didn't realize how long Seth Meyers was on the show!
Yep long time. I believe he ranks third in longest cast member on Snl behind Daryl Hammond and the champ Kenan Thompson. Had he not taken over late night I think Seth would still be on the show
Norm macdonald started celebrity jeopardy and is still the best weekend update host they've ever had
Firing him was snls biggest mistake ever
Have always considered the first cast members overrated. Don't think Akroyed, Belusi, Chase and Radner (god bless her) have stood the test of time. The best cast group for me was Hader, Armison, Wiig etc. I think Strong, Bayer and Mckinnon should be higher than Poeler and Fey.
This list is absolutely asinine
I have no respect for a list that places Abby Elliott higher than next to dead last. Dead last, of course, goes to Colin Quinn. And Dana Carvey doesn't outrank Kristin Wiig. Beh, this list is wrong.
Carvey is much funnier than Wiig!
I don't know how a one season Brooks Wheelan is ranked higher than Bobby Moynihan
Glad to see Bill Hader ranked pretty high, this made my day.
How can you put the new kids all in one category? Also they were NOT 81-92
Gilda Radner is the funniest lady imo. Eddie is #1, but no problems with the great John B.
Kenan Thompson @46? are you kidding me?
idiotic its obvious the interns assigned to do this list didnt bother looking at tapes not from their era and just randomly threw cast members into ranking slots
It’s a crime how low on the list you put Norm
How you piss off every era of snl fandome
Julia Luis Dreyfus? What was she famous for on SNL? She lasted ONE season I think! She shouldn’t be so high on this list just because Seinfeld made her famous!
3 seasons 8-10 still shit
I think that Anthony Michael Hall is still worst than Robert Downey Jr.
Bill Hader higher than Kristen Wiig, and Will Ferrell higher than Bill Hader? This list has lost all my respect.
Leonel Guerra like, Hader is way better than Wiig
Leonel Guerra Yeah Bill Hader is amazing
How dare you rank iron man that low? He died for us!!!!
Kenan, Vanessa, Kate, and aidy needed to be higher on the list in my opinion
Lot of these on the list are better after being on the show like Gilbert Gottfried, Jay Mohr, Chevy, Rob Riggle, Jim Breuer, David Koechner, James Belushi, Casey Wilson, Jenny Slate
Jim*
Not James
Taran Killam deserved higher up
It’s very surprising that they ranked Dana Carvey lower than Amy Poehler.
Rolling Stone says at the top of the page that they are only ranking the people's time on snl. And nothing else. But Brooks Wheelan gets raised 10 bonus notches because of a TWEET?!?! That he wrote when he got FIRED??!?!!? ugh
Wasn’t even a funny tweet. This list shouldn’t be taken seriously at all
Norm(135th). Well this list sucks. I also think Bobby Moynihan(98th) should be higher.
Those are DEFINITELY two two that has had the most backlash; one of the biggest legends and current stars, respectively. What's most disheartening was their heavy insults to Norm and their massive indifference and undermining to Bobby.
I have sooooo many questions. I can see people are already asking them but here is one no one is touching; how is David Spade no.27
how is Tina Fey higher than Kristen Wig and Gilda Radner? I mean she's awesome but...
This list sucks.
Jim Breuer and Norm McDonald in the bottom 5?? Come on man..
I just love how RDJ is the worst.
Was brooks whelelan better than Moynihan?
I agree with one thing and that is John Belushi being at the number one spot
