      He didn't even clear the exam for getting an admission in med school and he's searching about how to settle in switzerland. I don't know in what way this video is helpful for him in his current scenario?
      Maybe you might say he's planning for the future, but do you think you are doing the thing which you planned when you were 19 yo?

    Hey! I'm not really sure there is a shortage of doctors in Switzerland. I've done multiple internships there and have a couple more to go and from my experience it's extremely competitive and that even for Swiss or EU graduates. The only uncompetitive specialties might be psychiatry and internal at a stretch. What concretely makes you say there is a shortage of doctors in Switzerland?

    • @shrnschn5236
      @shrnschn5236 2 роки тому +26

      Yeah i don't understand why some physician youtubers do this. Just fake hope. Same with youtubers saying the NHS in UK lacking doctors. I've been applying every single day for 3 months there as well, with all the necessary requirements for a junior doctor post but to no avail.

    • @Peter-jx6qq
      @Peter-jx6qq 2 роки тому +9

      @@shrnschn5236 Exactly! My opinion is that matching into a residency in Switzerland is kind of like matching into residency in the US in the sense that unless you've been preparing for it during the last couple of years you'll most probably be out of luck. Obviously this changes once you're an attending but still the video seems to paint a much more positive picture than the reality.
      I got to know Swiss or German residents who already have perfect language skills who had to wait multiple years to match into specialties that are not that competitive abroad like cards or gastroenterology.
      Unless you know what you're getting yourself into and have a plan, Switzerland might even be a bad option. I've also spoken to a recruitment agent who told me she's seen CVs of foreign doctors who've been working in Switzerland for more than 7 years and still aren't board-certified and remarked that with frequently changing jobs their CVs looked like a catastrophe.
      Obviously it's doable but not mentioning that one needs perfect German skills and that there's also Swiss German one needs to understand PLUS ideally one more national language (French) and even then you need to be competitive enough feels like low-key deception or cluelessness.

    • @shrnschn5236
      @shrnschn5236 2 роки тому +9

      @@Peter-jx6qq I wouldn't say its competitive as residency in the US, Canada, Australia or the UK. For most cantons in Switzerland, knowing only one language (German or French or Italian is enough).
      As an EU medical graduate, you don't have to do any entrance exam like USMLE, AMC etc. The medical chamber directly recognises your EU degree and you can apply to any hospitals you want.
      Non-Swiss graduates should just be careful not to apply for residency at the same time of the year when the Swiss medical students are applying (usually 3-4 years in advance). The latter have priority. But 1-2 months before the start of the residency the Swiss students drop out of the many unnecessary residency posts they have reserved in application. That's when it's possible for foreigners* to apply. So it depends on luck. I have europeans friends who applied in both the french and german cantons and they could start working after 2-3 months because they applied at the right time.
      By foreigners* btw, i mean EU/EEA citizens. That's a big requirement. Despite having an EU medical degree, since I dont have an EU citizenship, the Swiss medical board will not recognise my degree.😑

    • @Peter-jx6qq
      @Peter-jx6qq 2 роки тому +3

      @@shrnschn5236 well, you're probably talking about internal or psychiatry which is where it's not super competitive and you can almost always find a job
      I met multiple Swiss or European residents who had to wait for their desired residency for at least a couple of years.

    • @shrnschn5236
      @shrnschn5236 2 роки тому +4

      @@Peter-jx6qq 2 of my friends got into Trauma and Orthopedics/ orthopedic surgery. 1 got Ophthalmo and the other one got psychiatry.
      As long as you apply to small hospitals at the appropriate time (i think it's called Group C hospitals), you can get most specialties. Once you are there you can already start applying to big university hospitals Group A for which you will have to wait few years for a vacancy.
      I agree that only 1 year in group C hospitals can be counted as residency training even if you do more years there. But at least you are not jobless.
      Many Swiss or european medical graduates don't apply to small hospitals in small towns because they only like living in cities.

    Thank you sir for such an amazing explanation but you said if you can let your documents recognised in Germany then you are able to work in Switzerland, since in Germany there is 2 different licences- Berufserlaubnis und Approbation, with which license it is advisable apply for a job in Switzerland…. Thank you for your answer beforehand

      You NEED to have approbation. Berufserlaubnis is a temporary solution and even in Germany it’s not accepted everywhere

      Not easy to go switzerland direct as non eu citizen. but you can go to Germany with atleast B2 level of German language, after getting some years of experience in Germany then you will have chance to settle as physiotherapist in switzerland.
