It seems any war will involve the rape of women by soldiers regardless of drunkenness or nationality. It's as though taking women is an unwritten law of war. The men forget they have their own mothers, sisters, wives in their lives and they are able to dehumanize and use females of "the enemy". Most often no one is punished and the soldiers can proceed with impunity. These crimes are happening again in Ukraine as they did in Bosnia etc etc.

There will always be individual bad actors in every military.
The difference being some countries will tolerate, condone or even encourage the rape of women.
That would be countries like Russia and Japan or the Nazis.
The Allies countries of WWII may have at times looked away to some extent but would never condone or encourage the rape of women.

That's because the Democratic party is in charge. The Democrats allow and even encourage alternative lifestyles and perverted thinking. They are the ones putting perversion into our schools and our streets.
If the Conservatives were making the laws rapist and those that harm our children would suffer severe consequences.
Rape and child molestation where capital crimes in the United States once upon a time. We've become very European as of late.
You might want to say that Republicans have been in charge before and nothing changed.
The problem with that is most Republicans in Washington DC are much like Liz Chaney, they are rhinos at best. They just hide it better than she does.

The russians are the worst attacking innocent civilians in an unprovoked attack. Many german women were protected by the american soldiers from the russian dogs and went to america to start new lives with them. Russia brought the german attack in ww2 on themselves by stealing neighbors countries exactly like we are seeing today. Living anywhere near russia was and clearly still is a very bad thing. The stronger the soviet union became the more germany felt threatened. Russia killed millions of their own people before ww2 and many were of german heritage. Many russians welcomed the german attack and joined the nazi army. Stalin killed their entire families if they were caught or if they surrendered to the nazi's. It would not surprise me if putin is doing the very same thing to families of captured soldiers in his army of thugs today. When polish jewish communists tried to physically take over the german government in the 30s and had to be killed they caused the eventual death of many jews who were regarded as communists since lenin and trotsky started the russian revolution causing millions to die and lose their freedom.

Its a way to take away the pride of a people. I am German and this pride never got restored, I can see it when I talk with my grandparents. My Grandpa started to cry when he told me how he witnessed as a child that his mother went with allied soldiers to come back beaten up and in bad shape (raped). His father died in combat he has only seen him twice. I see this humiliation is still inside him as an 80y old man, and in a way it also affects my father and me on an epigenetic level and we can still see in our society that men who have pride get shut down very fast as its not wanted anymore.

Your comment and the fact that Europe so far enjoyed peace are testimonies of effectiveness of it.
With few exceptions it is men who are worriers. Most of the time propaganda portraits them as defenders of the week and helpless (women and children), it is rape of women ultimate proof of their inability to fulfill this duty.
After these brutal events no German will be able to present himself as superior to others.

My wife is German. Her grandmother fled East Prussia (Germany) with nothing but two small children and a baby after it was given to the USSR. She walked 800 miles to Bavaria (the only part of Germany that wasn't bombed into oblivion). Along the way she was raped 17 times by Allied Troops and buried two out of the three children. She made it to Bavaria with my wife's father, the baby, whom she had a very co-dependent relationship with. In many ways, todays German people, who of course had nothing to do with the war, carry the emotional and psychological scars of the war from the their parents and grandparents.

Sophia, the main character and her daughter were attacked and raped by allied soldiers when they were caught in the fighting. None of them were burried in military cementeries, because if they were caught by Germans, they were executed on spot as they were treated like terorists. Russian army had many female fighters. Some of them were even among the Best Sharp shooters they had. If women are given arms to defend themselves, they will be in front lines. Just ask Kurds. The problem was, that before firearms, women didn’t stand a chance in a Battle because of men being biologicaly so much stronger. Guns are great equalizer. My great grandma was sleeping with her gun and Pistol and never let them out of her reach. She also had bombs on her belt, for she would never let them catch her. She planned to take with her as many as possible with no way out. She was ready to die. I would rather die fighting than be raped, tortured and finally executed like an animal . I just need a gun. Luckily I was raised by Yugoslav communists. Every kid going to highschool in Yugoslavia had to learn how to shoot to finish highschool - no matter which sex. So, I shoot just fine. Got A for it. Tito said about WWI and WWII - in each following war more civilians die, so it only makes sense to teach them how to defend themselves and arm them if necessary. Yugoslavia could be defeated only by itself. Even Russians wouldn’t invade them.

I have a relative who served in the middle east in the 70's, and sometimes I think the reason he is in such bad shape mentally is because of that very thing! Men like to think they are heroes and protectors when they go to war. Some find out that they are really cowards. That is a hard pill to swallow.

I watched a video recently of a Holocaust survivor from Auschwitz. At the time of liberation she was around 18 and in bad shape physically, as you can imagine. Afterwards, she also got very depressed that all but her sister had been killed. They found an apt. and she had to be carried. They put her in a crib, and during the night a drunk American soldier with a buddy broke into the apt, picked her up out of the crib and started taking her clothes off, but was stopped by his fellow soldier. She said he got infuriated, but left. He came back the next morning to bring her flowers and apologize. I bet she wondered if she’d ever stop being terrorized and feel safe again.

Many times that's probably why so many of these soldiers didn't want to talk about what they did during the war. There was probably a lot of shame they carried throughout their lives that they didn't want to think about, whether it was raping helpless civilian women, putting the clueless new replacements on point where they snickered with their buddies about how the guy would be killed the first day, looting, or mutilating dead enemy soldiers. The PTSD isn't necessarily all about seeing their buddies killed in action. As you age, most people with a conscience understand and feel great remorse for things they did in the past as 19-year-olds, but can never be undone and it's as clear as last week until the day they die.

The german people, my people, have experienced so much hardship in life; whats funny, when people think of the germans during ww2, they automatically think of all the horrible stuff they have done; but not once has anyone truly sat down and thought of their reasoning; citizens just dont wake up over night wanting to exterminate, their has to be a breaking point.
No one talks about the brutality towards german citizens that poland has done along their borders during 1918-1919, where the allies had made german citizans addicted to alcohol, pornography and degeneracy through the 1920s, or how no one truly discusses about the book burnings during 1933 and how germany was in such a horrible poverish state due to the article agreements that European crountries drafted and proposed on the german citizens until the day they refused their currency system creating their own.
No one wants to talk about the 24 peace treaties they sent out to the allies before 39, not many people realize that most of the Nawtsies where majority worried about russia and stalin; or how churchill pushed for the war to happen by doing forest burns along the border edges, no because their all perfect people.
But yes, lets just pretend that the millions of germans that where killed, and forcing the entire race to be made the bad guy in all of this, and nothing ever happened with the allies, because as they day, good guys always win history right?

I will say one thing, 27 million people died in the USSR, of which 13-15 million were soldiers. The Germans and their allies destroy entire villages, including old people, women and children. One of the German soldiers, in letters to a friend, boasted of how they raped young girls in droves and how he liked them to resist to the last, and then kill them; this soldier was also surprised that there were so many virgins among them... There is a huge amount of evidence of the brutal murders of small children, including crucifixions, and I also remember how a German soldier killed a child with an ax (because the child was crying and did not let him sleep). I read letters from German soldiers, and letters from their wives and mothers, who asked to send a fur coat or boots, and also thanked for the parcels sent, one Frau thanked and wrote that she was able to wash a blood stain from the coat that he sent them, and how this coat goes their daughters..... For many USSR soldiers, the Germans killed all their relatives: mothers, fathers, wives, children..... How could they be kind after that? Do you seriously think this was cruel to women in Germany???? Only thanks to the power of the USSR, their generals and the kindness of “Ivan” was at least something left of the people of Germany!

I had friends from Germany who told me what happened when the Brit soldiers first entered their village in 1945 after Germany was defeated.
The soldiers came in at first very slowly and with great trepidation and caution, carrying their guns cocked and aloft, poking every haystack and bush, until they were sure the area was safe and there were no German soldiers left hiding out there.
Once they took control however, they behaved in a very disciplined manner and didn't assault anyone. One time after searching a house they found an air rifle and all hell broke loose until it was explained to them it was the young son's who was just using it to shoot birds and was of no danger to them.
Later on, often, the little children used to run up to the soldiers stationed there and taunt them in their broken English with "You have a bird!" from the German idiom "Du hast einen vogel" meaning "You're crazy!". This of course left the soldiers somewhat bemused, the children not realising the direct translation has no meaning in English.

We have some of the most violent people in the world living in the United States and a lot of the comments act like us Americans are so nice and friendly and not violent! Man this country is going to hell for all the sins committed in our borders!

Damn War breeds brutality and retaliation against Civilians. The fact that modern wars fought by Modern armies includes that too is disturbing as hell. At least we no longer capture people as slaves like we used too, right?, I think.

I m so proud of my Indian army who are taught to be gentleman. Remembering our legend Sam Manekshaw who made it very clear during liberation of East Pakistan from West Pakistan that no women of any age will be touched by Indian army.

I read that American troops trained for France were told that "French girls were easy" as a way to excite them. I imagine these boys were pretty young and inexperienced. But this film explains the state French girls were in by 1944: hungry, worn out, ravaged.
