I feel if a swordsman was properly trained against a schyte he'd be able to exploit a lot of weaknesses (shcyte is heavier, cannot stab, and opponent can grab the shaft)
My little sister is left handed but was taught to sword fight by a right handed person (me) this unfortunately made it so she's better than me if she utilizes the fact that she is technically able to swap hands on the fly with no loss in dexterity. @@JohnKickboxing think of the katana like a sidearm. It wasn't the main weapon used by samurai even though many carried them. Samurai were also amazing archers, Spearman, and even staff users. The katana and wakazashi were used as backup weapons.
i don't think it's that the swordsman is untrained in the matchup it's litterally that the weapon difference is HUGE ! all the Scythe guys has to do is go for a reach with a circular blow, and 50% times it will land. 50% the opponent will dodge but by getting out of range, getting no real advantage, back to square 1. The ONLY move the swords man CAN do in order to win, is a complex 3-part move, where he 1-Parries (...somehow?? already pretty improbable!!) 2- grabs the pole 3- finally strikes A lot of things can go wrong. When you rely on a 3-phase move with an improbable start, VS the oponent can do the most basic thing and still have the upper hand the vast majority of the time !! Personally, if I got in a fight against a weapon that has TWICE my range, AND I cannot parry... !!! then I'd JUST RUN.
Honestly wish these videos got more views. love this channel and the various weapon matches. It helps alot for doing animation work. Keep up the good work!
I’ve personally thought about designing my own scythe based off of criticisms of it. A spike at the top of the pole would make it more of a threat instead of purely relying on the scythe blade. Or perhaps a smaller scythe blade behind the bigger blade, kind of like the hook on a hammer. It would give more opportunities to hook and disarm, while giving a counter balance to the broad forward blade. The extra weight would also make a fearsome piercing weapon. I wish I thought about the smaller hook at the bottom. I love how he used it to hook around weapons and propelling the blade in a single motion.
A spike on top would certainly be the way to go. Make the angle on the scythe slightly more severe and sharpen its back edge so it can do some push cuts while maintaining its ability to hook and reach past blocks. Maybe a hammer or axe head on the back side, effectively making it a poleaxe with an extremely large bladed beak. All that on the head of the thing may be a bit hard to handle though.
Why didn’t they just turn that one around it would make the weapon so much better. He even rotates the weapon to use the little scythe. If it was just facing the other way you wouldn’t cut yourself constantly and you could use it the same way but better cause you don’t have to rotate it first. I know it’s just cause they thought it looked cool or would get clicks, but it’s such an impractical design xD
That was pretty cool, I like how towards the end the kenjutsu-bokken user smartened up and would parry, block, grab the scythe then stab. I would have used both the sheathe and the bokken if I had to go against the scythe user myself. You can't go traditional against an untraditional bout.
I feel like this scythe weapon would have a very lopsided weight with the round handle and angled blade. It would probably be difficult to effectively fight with, as you can only cut by pulling inward. Id like to see an actual war scythe in use at some point.
@@jestfullgremblim8002 pros and cons, the angle means opponents need to create *that* much more space between themselves and the tip and block, while he also has to be aware of a wider cone of possible attacks around himself. At least thats what VR teached me, so take it with a grain of salt
3:38 i am VERY impressed with the read and reaction time from the kendoka, intentional or not that was a great reaction. As far as the scythe is concerned; It's a great weapon: It allows you to attack from different angles (especially when 2-sided as is the case here). It also allows you to displace your opponents or resitrict their movements. Especially the knees, ankles and shoulders are excellent targets The best close-combat defence with this weapon is to pull your oppenent in with the scythe until you are chest-to chest. They can't strike and you get to cut their chest/abdomen open, this doesn't work very well against stabbing motions though :D

Change: instead of having a smaller hook facing you on the bottom, have a a spike/spear tip. Keeping that threat while reducing it's likely hood of hitting you. Add: a small spike sticking out opposite of the main blade to allow for more of a puncturing attack against armored opponents along with opening up some other techniques
Nice video. It is easy to see that the swordsman have little experience facing spears-type of weapons using katana. Specially a scythe type, which is a spear made for cutting and stabbing using side-ways attacks. In my experience, katana have a hard time against this kind of weapons. Tho, it is something that with years of practice against it, you can do lots of things.
If you look at medieval polearms, it seems like they also had this kind of hooking possibilities. People had a lot of experience with scythes so it's likely that similar weapon designs felt comfortable even for those who had little experience from fighting. Farming tools probably had more influence on weapon designs than they get credited.
My preferred stance vs weapons with range is O Gasumi, Ko Gasumi, or Te Ura Gasumi. I can parry and counter fairly well vs a spear, staff, polearm or greatsword with these. 2-hand scythe is tricker but it's more viable than using a standard offensive guard like Seigan No Kamae. Anything with range is going to own that.
There seem to be very interesting ways you could use the scythe as a weapon, even to the point I think it could be viable over shorter range weapons, like an axe or a sword, probably not something like a spear though.
The thing I admire most about the sword is you can fight from the outside and the inside, where as a spear or in this case a scythe is for the most part all outside striking if the distance closes the scythe wielder is in trouble
Badass. The scythe is such a cool weapon. I know it wouldn't be conventional, but I wonder why the outer edge of the scythe was never sharpened (at least to my knowledge). I know it excels as a piercing weapon, but it seems like keening the outer edge would simply make it more lethal.
I thought the scythe thumbnail and martial art was BS until I saw he does Krabi Krabong, an actual style. I've been looking for scythes and scythe fighting for a while, this is awesome! Hungary and the West know more about the war scythe, a reforged version where the scythe is put parallel to the handle instead of the perpendicular(ly) way.
Estou lendo um manhwa na qual o personagem usa uma foice como arma, e pensei quais seriam os movimentos reais em uma luta, existem muitos protas dark que usam foice ultimamente rsrsrs, gostei do video, foi interessante
The giant scythe looks cool & dangerous, for all involved with the back blade facing the user, I wonder how many times the guy with the scythe would have injured himself?
This is a very interesting but a different style than I have seen before. and also a slightly different shape. The style I have seen emphasizes continuous movements, not immediate return to center guard, and uses the back end more than you did here. Ie if the initial cut misses you come around with the back end most times instead of stopping and returning to guard.
Very interesting. I wonder if hooking and pulling your oppenent closer would be a detriment. Obvious the scythe would cause severe damge but pulling them closer might open you to a counter attack that will end in both people mortally wounded

My little sister is left handed but was taught to sword fight by a right handed person (me) this unfortunately made it so she's better than me if she utilizes the fact that she is technically able to swap hands on the fly with no loss in dexterity. She's actually scary good with a sword, I made her a custom short bladed estoc with a slightly curved tip (akin to a thorn on a rose) to give her better control.
Hey . . . since weapon like katana sword was not the best weapon back then, why did the samurais use this kind of weapon?
@@JohnKickboxing think of the katana like a sidearm. It wasn't the main weapon used by samurai even though many carried them. Samurai were also amazing archers, Spearman, and even staff users. The katana and wakazashi were used as backup weapons.
@@ralcogaming7674 👌
i don't think it's that the swordsman is untrained in the matchup
it's litterally that the weapon difference is HUGE !
all the Scythe guys has to do is go for a reach with a circular blow, and 50% times it will land. 50% the opponent will dodge but by getting out of range, getting no real advantage, back to square 1. The ONLY move the swords man CAN do in order to win, is a complex 3-part move, where he 1-Parries (...somehow?? already pretty improbable!!) 2- grabs the pole 3- finally strikes
A lot of things can go wrong.
“You died” at the end hilarious!!!😂
That's somewhat wondering into the realm of a bill hook, which is likely the best hooking weapon, since it was used a lot
it's not unlikely optimizing a scythe you'd end up designing a halberd, which is probably how the halberd was born in the first place
@@PronteCo the idea was inspired by the Halberd, but instead of an axe blade, it’s a scythe blade.
Hybrid weapons have been done before.
you gonna made a halberd not a scythe.
The explaining after every round is very Nice and I like it alot
The sound effects and dramatic music makes it 10× better!
The little scythe on the back that he is constantly stabbing himself with is hilarious
It is real fun of you guys to experiment with the fantasy and different weapons ..against..should do more in the future...
The scythe user actually looks like he knows what he's doing.
The way you presented this with the blood splatters on hits is great. Also, it looks like the Scythe is working as intended..
“Do you want to go to hell with me”
Yeah, i heard grim reaper said that
this is the coolest channel on youtube
Subscribed. Great content.
I feel like this scythe weapon would have a very lopsided weight with the round handle and angled blade. It would probably be difficult to effectively fight with, as you can only cut by pulling inward. Id like to see an actual war scythe in use at some point.
True it's not so good.
Try sharpening the other side
@@lucasalexandre3801 even still itd be lopsided and awkward, and not very easy to land hits with
@@jestfullgremblim8002 pros and cons, the angle means opponents need to create *that* much more space between themselves and the tip and block, while he also has to be aware of a wider cone of possible attacks around himself. At least thats what VR teached me, so take it with a grain of salt
Much like an axe the scythe blade might help you index the weapon and have proper edge alignment. Agreed on the round shaft tho that's rarely ideal.
Love the sound effects
面白い!
効果音が良い感じ。臨場感が増しますね。
どっちも格好いい。
3:38 i am VERY impressed with the read and reaction time from the kendoka, intentional or not that was a great reaction.
As far as the scythe is concerned; It's a great weapon: It allows you to attack from different angles (especially when 2-sided as is the case here).
It also allows you to displace your opponents or resitrict their movements. Especially the knees, ankles and shoulders are excellent targets
The best close-combat defence with this weapon is to pull your oppenent in with the scythe until you are chest-to chest. They can't strike and you get to cut their chest/abdomen open, this doesn't work very well against stabbing motions though :D
He isn't a kendoka though, he is a kenjutsu practitioner.
@@zenuko620 kenjutsu includes all forms of japanese sword-based martial arts. He is a kenjutsu practicioner since he is a kendoka.
Based on his gear, the areas he typically strikes at and the fact he's shouting on hit I'd say he's a kendoka for sure :)
@@hieronymousblackmane9152 He is definitely using some non kendo techniques. Also his sword shouldn't have a scabbard, since kendo doesn't have any drawing cuts
@@zenuko620 I'll take your expertise for it then. I wouldn't know all the details as i practice polearms and not swords xD but thanks for pointing it out!
@@zenuko620 No, he is a kendoka. This is W.S. Yeom, I believe that he is 2dan kendo, but they have said in other videos that he has never trained any other style of kenjutsu.
This is awesome! While watching this I also thought of one thing to change and one then to add to the weapon to make it even more effective!
I love you can hear them laughing while they go at it. This is super cool.
i love this channel
Got some Bloodborne vibes from this match. Good stuff! 👍
Nice! I would have liked to see the swordsman grab the pole more to see what counter the scythe comes up with.
deve ser mt daora fazer um sparring de katana com os amigos, tipo fingindo que vcs são ninjas ou samurais
If you look at medieval polearms, it seems like they also had this kind of hooking possibilities. People had a lot of experience with scythes so it's likely that similar weapon designs felt comfortable even for those who had little experience from fighting. Farming tools probably had more influence on weapon designs than they get credited.
"Do you want to go to hell with me" a warriors I love you lmfao
Yeah... I just love scythes, and this video shows a working way of use in a fight
The sound and visual effects makes the shit awesome and fun to watch… Lol
So about the same as most pole arms. Hard to get past them due to their reach, but once you do, they do not have much answer.
Anything with range is going to own that.
at some point u guys need to do Niten Ichi Ryu vs Kenjutsu
Love It!
Please do Kenjutsu vs F22 Raptor in flight.
It will be awesome 😁
The killing was too mad, and the lovely sound effects just made it madder 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That was a badass line 😎
sound effect really nice😂 and the closing sound sound like dark soul.😂
Straight from the games
3:46 was just beautiful 🖤
There seem to be very interesting ways you could use the scythe as a weapon, even to the point I think it could be viable over shorter range weapons, like an axe or a sword, probably not something like a spear though.
Saludos desde Colombia los admiro un gran trabajo videos muy geniales me encanta las artes marciales muy bien
The thing I admire most about the sword is you can fight from the outside and the inside, where as a spear or in this case a scythe is for the most part all outside striking if the distance closes the scythe wielder is in trouble
“The scythe is used for cutting grass”
Yeah and also used for cutting you 💀
But as a weapon, it is garbage compared to a war scythe.
That spin attack really art of master
:)
This is Freaking Awesome!!!
Awesome content
> 2:55 WAOOOO it was so beautiful, straight out of a movie !
3:46 i really like this attempt at forming a localized hurricane to throw the sword user off balance. Really nice technique!
So fun to watch!
I really like how your training with a lot of non-traditional or different weapons 👍🏻
you guys make it fun
Shadow Fight fan here! I find this hilarious!
They're so good. They play death so well.😁
見応えがある、素晴らしい
This channel makes me want to watch some anime
Badass. The scythe is such a cool weapon.
I know it wouldn't be conventional, but I wonder why the outer edge of the scythe was never sharpened (at least to my knowledge). I know it excels as a piercing weapon, but it seems like keening the outer edge would simply make it more lethal.
I always love your contents ❤️
-love from 🇵🇭
Обожаю вас!!! И обожаю корейский спорт!!!!
Estou lendo um manhwa na qual o personagem usa uma foice como arma, e pensei quais seriam os movimentos reais em uma luta, existem muitos protas dark que usam foice ultimamente rsrsrs, gostei do video, foi interessante
. Cheers to both the warriors 👍
Very nice 👏🏾
The giant scythe looks cool & dangerous, for all involved with the back blade facing the user, I wonder how many times the guy with the scythe would have injured himself?
Muy interesante la verdad, tiene una gran ventaja respecto a la katana, nunca vi un arma de ese tipo en mi vida y me gustó.
insertion of comments from the opponent is a great idea!
That was badass
That reach disadvantage is insanee
Nice content
Those katana hits were amazing to watch though
It would be cool to see the giant scythe vs dual wielding swords.
They’re having fun with it
This is great.
This was just frightening
Please get this guy on again.
かっこいい!!!
That scythe is incredibly difficult to manoeuver in a manner that would inflict incapacitating wounds, but its also incredibly difficult to parry
When your opponent comes at you with a pole weapon make sure to use the pole to its full advantage. Got it!
I think, you should try role-play fightings in Irkutsk.))) We do same things.)))
Brilliant
Kendo guy is fantastic
My best part was “you died” after the npc enemy killed you then posed 😂😂
Bloody good entertainment!
Very interesting. I wonder if hooking and pulling your oppenent closer would be a detriment. Obvious the scythe would cause severe damge but pulling them closer might open you to a counter attack that will end in both people mortally wounded
🧐👏👏👏 awesome
To combat the scythe, your best choice is to either grab and attack or counter his attack after blocking it. But its easier said then done.
The Scythe reminds me of the weapon the Sand People would use in Stars Wars and Boba Fett series.
