This new version of the leader of the Decepticons, MP-36 is a redesign of Megatron to match the new Masterpiece scale set by Optimus Prime (MP-10). The fact that this exists at all is crazy. This transformation is like some sort of science project.
I feel like the best 2 are Despotron and MP-36. Both seem to have pros and cons that even out all-in-all. Despotron's lower legs are a bit too thick and he doesn't come with the extra gun parts. MP-36 looks rough from the top and back with the obvious recess for his head in back, has a major jigsaw puzzle look in gun mode, and a really complex transformation. Between those 2 I think it comes down to whether a person wants their MP Megatron more cartoon accurate or more of a mix of toon and original toy with a touch of extra style. Most other official MPs for years have had the later look to them, so I prefer Despotron.
I just ordered the howling meteor for star scream which is supposed to be a real masterpiece starscream I suggest u check it out

You're the only person to mention him having any die-cast, mainly the feet as far as I've seen. Bravo sir.
Not sure why people are shitting on this figure so much. Looks WAY more solid than MP-05 and looks far more accurate in terms of overall design compared to other figures. The amount of engineering that went into the figure and all the extra things he can do is pretty nuts too. I'm impressed.About the only negatives I can spot are the open-ended backside and the amount of paint on the figure that clearly won't be transformation friendly.

I think this figure is getting a lot of flak due to the price tag and 3rd party competition. It costs 2x as much, but is the same size and matte gray instead of silver. Not to mention the transformation is very rough and tumble with a billion tiny parts unlike some of the 3rd party offers. No doubt his sculpt is perfect, but for whopping $230 I think people were expecting more.

The robot mode comparison was great, I assume you didn't do a gun mode comparison because the idea of transforming five MP Megatrons to gun mode and back is enough to shrivel any man's balls.
Best review I've seen so far dude, always knew this figure was going to divide collectors but to me there's no comparison between this and any of the third party efforts! Never going to get a perfect Megatron just due to the impossible engineering needed but I think this is as good as we're ever going to get! Can't wait for mine to get here!!
I want it, but that was a scary transformation. I can't believe the leg and arm compression techniques that Takara came up with. Someone deserves a big fat raise.

Good review. Very detailed and like the comparisons. Only thing I would have added would have been to compare them all in fun mode the way you did robot mode. But really good review and nice detail during transformation.

tomi christian that would be a real shady business practice to have to go back and rebuy the seekers. If something should be redone it's the car bots but even then that would be messed up because we would be buying same characters twice as far as this I have mightron and Apollyon and I am happy with those for my display purposes

IMO, mp36 is ugly looking comparatively speaking. however, 80s toon style combined w/ adult collectors in mind, is a great new direction!! IMO already in uniform with MP inferno & MP shockwave.
also, I'm convincing myself to buy this one. can't decide.

Excellent transformation video, thank you! Now the question is whether I want to destroy my new toy by actually doing it... honestly that's pretty shitty of Takara, there's no way they should have allowed a design where simply attaching an accessory the first time damages the paint.

I love mp-10 to death and never really got the arms are a little to long comment until I saw him next to megatron and yeah they are a little long but I honestly love how those two look

How could any Transformers fan question this figure?
It must be fans who are indifferent to the G1 cartoon and only perceive Megatron the way they WANT to see him, which is okay by the way; but it's no excuse to ridicule MP-36 when there are other alternatives. If you don't like him, then move on. I didn't see people acting this way when MP-10 came out; that was probably because Takara didn't have much competition at the time. Had Megatron come out then, people wouldn't be this butt-hurt about it now. It sucks that we had to wait so long for him, and I'm not surprised people invested in 3rd party Megatrons -- hell, I almost bought Apollyon when he was still popular. I'm glad I was patient though. In the end, all I wanted was a well-executed representation of the 1984 Megatron I saw in the show. That's what Takara has done here, and I will always be grateful for their dedicated efforts to bring this to us (maybe not for that price, but still worth it if you have the money).
The difference between MP 10 and MP 36 is that MP 10 was a mixture of the real world and the cartoon. It had much more detail and line work and paint apps. MP 36 has dull paint, especially when compared to MP 05. Takara has gone down this route of being overly slavish to the cartoon and abandoning the key traits Masterpiece used to have: Realistic alt modes, yet retained enough of the character designs to be cartoon-esque. MP 11, for example, had the key things Starscream needs: The head, the wings, the cockpit, the null rays, the shoulder bits, but had extra line work, extra detailing, paint apps, and real world bits that made it more interesting than the G1 toy. MP Shockwave is like this too, and I still prefer Quakewave to him. I know this has become a rant at this point, but I'm kind of sad that Takara has strayed from their roots.
Megatron is a very hard thing to get right. I don't care as long as everyone finds a way to be happy.

I love this figure. I do wish the forearms were completely square and it would be nice to get frank welker on the audio, but other than the price, I would get this is a heartbeat. I do wish they would make cheaper " to play with" models. My collecting for profit ended with my comic book collection. I just want these for the enjoyment of them. I'll have to give this a year and see what develops ( if I can hold out).

We need a Masterpiece G1 Megatron version 3.0 mold in the works.
It seems the scale of Masterpiece is the best comparing with the other manufacturers , either robot or pistol mode is designed very nice, but the transformation is very complicated, I have never seen any toys took such long time/containing such many small parts for transformation indeed ! Never mind the difficulty , on 28:11, I am just worrying about it will be broken one day....
But it is really amazing to keep the scale very nice for both two modes on the same body with considering transformation purpose !
You short-changed Despotron there a bit in the comparison piece. His legs aren't entirely extended, making him appear to be the shortest of the Megatrons, but he stands perfectly matched to MP-10 Optimus Prime when configured fully.

Currently, which Megatron release (either official or 3rd party) would you say has the most faithful gun mode in relation to an actual Walther P38? And if the answer is the original G1 release, what would you say is the 2nd? I for one would be interested in seeing a video dedicated to that and a ranking from best to worst.
Somebody really needs to post a picture of MP-36 pointing and laughing at MP-05. Followed by a picture of Mp-05 flat on his face with MP-36 standing on top of him with fusion cannon pointed at his head.
Man he looks awesome!! The one thing MP-36 has over Mightron (the only one of these I have) is the fusion cannon. MP-36 just nails the look of his fusion cannon. Mightron's is just too wide. I hope one day he'll go down in price somewhat.

Thanks for this, very helpful. I'm seriously considering MP-36 to complement my beautiful MP-10 Optimus Prime. But previous incarnations of Megatron (fiddly, breaking pieces) turned me off. This looks more hopeful!
Excellent review as always! Cool figure and although I have no need for it, I can see the appeal for others with this official offering of Megatron and it sure beats MP-05 in my opinion.

Just got this fella for my 17th and I gotta say the build is insanely good. Only problems I have are with the flight stand peg-in and the stiffness of a lotta parts. I cant even figure out the flight stand if I'm being honest.
Despotron to me the best looking out of the four personally. MP36 would be perfect if the back wouldn't have all those opening and holes. It is the most proportionate looks great from the front but the dull gray and horrible back makes it second. Appolion's lower leg has way too much going on and Mightron no words on that back pack. Its hilarious to look at. And the gap in the armpit just brutal.

Careful when transforming, some of the joints are scary tight. On my Meg, the crotch and shoulder cannon felt like I was about to break something. Transformation is complex but at least nothing flops around while you wrestle with him, very solidly built.
2017 is the year of megatron!!! we have g1 mp megatron and also tlk movie megatron!!
I hope Wei Jiang comes out with an oversized "KO" version to stand beside MPP10.

So did he come with an orange plug in the gun barrel? I've been seeing a lot of videos of first unboxings and there hasn't been an orange plug. Could this be because he's not packaged in gun mode?
Recieved my MP-36 in the mail today and couldn't be happier. It is such an awesome looking figure in hand. Only thing throwing the proportions off a bit are the side hip skirts but I'm fine with it because of how accurate the rest of the bot looks to the G1 cartoon. This is a fantastic figure so don't listen to the whining bitchy people Complaining about this and that with it. Yes it is 220 but we have been paying around 200 for the MP-11 seeker mold for how long now...its normal Takara pricing people.

Pretty much a flawless figure, it is like they saved up all these years to come up with something that is truly a MASTERPIECE. All the small gimmicks and fanservice on the figure make it one of the best figures ever created. Also very much movie (1986) accurate too. It is pricey but hey, all the really good figures are close to this price too.
Still like Despotron more. Anyone know if Fanstoys doing a Megs?
Biosynthnut no because Takara has already done Megatron; do you remember what happened to the MP Soundwave Fans Toys was making until Takara announced their Soundwave? Yeah, it got cancelled.

28:11 I have to use a small flat head screwdriver to pry the joints out, even after loosening the screw.
But overall, he is the best out of all of them.

I don't get why people say this Megatron's crap.Each one has their pros and cons so really there's no better Megatron.For example,you have a chance of having an Appollyon with Horrible QC (especially with early releases),Despotron isn't that true to his G1 cartoon counterpart so he won't look too good with the others and some may say his head isn't well proportioned (again,SOME) since it's a bit small,finally,Despotron,may be a bit too blocky and he has duck lips.

This is really cool and very accurate from the 80s cartoon but this is a bit too much when you're trying to transform it into gun mode and back into robot mode I rather go with the Generation 1 Megatron from 84 just a little more simpler to transform😅😅😅
I really think they need to add more detail to the faces instead of dumbing them down to look more cartoony looking than the actual cartoon.

That's one hell of transformation:/...I don't see why making a transformer toy when it's not fun to transform, just have robot mode figure and alt mode toy.
Nice review of a amazing figure. This figure lack the silver paint. Other than that it's the best version.
David Nguyen the paint on this figure is what makes it more high end than the third party releases. The paint job and color are beautiful on this figure.
Also Megatron wasn't shiny silver. He was grey.
You can tell Takara put copious amounts of care and attention to every part of his original color scheme.
Chosen prime your handling this bit rough I read and saw pictures on web site there are some pieces breaking off and paint chipping have you experienced this? Megatron jet mode somewhat 20:20
beautiful figure I like both modes I like the accessories but does anyone else think that it's a bit Ludacris that mp36 comes with about half as much plastic has Star saber or Ultra Magnus yet cost as much as a real Walther P38
*ludicrous. the cost represents the amount of work gone into it, which you'll have to admit is a fair bit. especially by comparison to the original.
Alister Flower true. but the amount of material and the fact that there are flaws( hollow shoulders, visible head in alt mode, that cluster fuck around the collarbone area) and considering that some of the 3p Meg's are just as complex have just as many or more accessories and are half the cost by comparison... I just don't see it. ratchet and Ironhide had more accessories but thanks to clever packaging the box was smaller so it saved everyone money. most of Meg's accessories could have gone in a sheet foam packed baggie then they would not have even needed the second clam shell
